@@ooperblownup Almost every Spelunky master with a bunch of successful runs under their belt will tell you that learning to rob shops and get away with it is a much better strategy in the long run than being a completely honest customer, simply because more money not spent buyng things = higher score at the end of the run. Thus, Blargh treats reaching the third world, the ice caves, without having incurred the wrath of a single shopkeeper as an utterly lunatic course of action. Which it is! You should ALWAYS rob shopkeepers blind, especially when they sell bombs, ropes, guns or jetpacks.
All of you, get down to the Spelunky 2 forums AT ONCE. There are a bunch of unenlightened troglodytes over there who think that NOT slaughtering every Shopkeeper you see is an option - a *viable* option! *HERESY!*
This editing is incredible. You got more than one audible laugh out of me with this one. I've been using your bomb-jump method, with mostly successful results. I'm still amazed at how brazenly you thwart their attacks, though.
A few additions to the video: 1). 1:35 the method will also work without sticky bombs for those who doesn't know. 2). Shopkeepers are able to glitch due to cobra's spits, snail's bubbles or sometimes even tiki trap's stabs and person who got that kind of amnesia won't be hostile to you until you touch him. Because of that, they can forget about you if you only STOLE any of their items (but never killed or shot from the shotgun even once) and stop attacking you AT ALL, but some conditions have to be met in order to work. There is a consistent method that you have to Google yourself! 3). Hyperarmour happens when they get hit IMMEDIATELY AFTER recieving some extremely light damage that they didn't even feel (for example thrown rock at the face, these terminators duh). 4). In co-op if any of your idiotic friends somehow died you can ask them to use their ghost to peacefully steal his shotgun without making him angry, one ghostly breath will do it and he is completely disarmed. You can even make him leave his shop that way without pissing him off! You can use that to disarm/calm down/what not anywhere, not only in shops. That's it. This video is a blast. Only wonder how many shopkeepers were killed in the production of this video.
13:30 This is the preferred method for speedrunning BUT we drop the bomb from the entrance platform instead of going down, just jump if your bombs are sticky or drop it close to the ledge and let it slide if they are not, it's the safest way to handle the black market.

This video was chock full of good tips!! Another trick you can do is a variant of the bomb jump trick: If the shop is selling a present at the spot closest to the shop entrance, you can whip and jump at the same time to open the present instead of throwing a bomb!

I got into mossrankings, and after some good times, I completed a run in some categories. I thought I had seen a familiar face in the ladder and it was you. You forget about "super secret shopkeeper killing technique"! On jungle levels, if you manage to get shopkeeper devoured by mantrap you can destroy mantrap, before shopkeeper get out from it, then the shopkeeper will be gone with it and you even don't gain wanted levels!
I once killed an angry shopkeeper in the ice caves by attaching a bomb to the side of a falling platform then sending it down for an explosive surprise

Ive recently become addicted to Spelunky and just got my first ever Olmec win a couple days ago, and my second yesterday! So these Spelunky 101 videos have been a huge help, and hilarious, thank you. P.S. Attaching a sticky to a corpse and pushing it down to the Ahnk keeper is genius.
It's interesting to see you grow as youtuber, seeing you redo this. The spelunky 101 has been my favourite of the things you did, and. Well. This compared to the old one is somehow superior. You have toned down on the profanity, but not the occasional evilness, which makes the shopkeeper contacts so entertaining. I don't watch most of your videos, only when something seems particularly interesting or when i feel like it, so i'm not sure if you have said it already. But. Do you plan on doing the other spelunky 101 episodes too?
I don't feel like the others need a remake. There are a few "advanced tactics" I didn't know about when I made the first one, but there aren't enough to make a whole video about. The profanity is toned down because it made me cringe when I listened to my or other people's gameplay videos, so I made an effort to stop it...
@@ElBlargho Man, I probably have well over a thousand hours into Spelunky and I didn't know you could hit the shopkeeper through the diag box, the jump and bomb trick (I usually do the wall whip). web gun, but I never touch that thing; putting a bomb on a dead keeper for the ankh room. On top of that, your writing is eloquent as hell, (you should write a book) and your love for the game bleeds out from every frame. Top notch stuff. I also asked my GF if you might be from PERU? i don't know if anybody knew this but: If you knock the shopkeeper in spelunky classic without robbing or killing him, only taking his shotgun, you won't aggro any shopkeepers and you'll have a free shotgun, i just did that lol.
There is also a shopkeeper forgiveness mechanic: if you anger the shopkeeper without killing him, subsequent levels will give you a chance to be forgiven if the shopkeeper is killed before being aggroed.
you really dont need the rope for the rope bomb method just jump with the item as the shopkeeper is still moving and he'll move to the edge of the shop. its what I do and imo the ease and low cost makes it the best
Most important tip is to jump and shoot at the same time everytime so that if their hyper armour kicks in you will just dodge their shot and can keep going.
It the classic version if you do the whip and jump method and take everything (importantly their shotgun) and then keep them alive, they wont have an exit guard at the end of each level. This also works wonder at the black market because every shop becomes a free store, but you only have one angry shop keeper who is hopefully disarmed.

You can also put up a rope and toss a bomb near a shop entrance to vandalize his store and piss him off, then get him stuck so you can blow him up easy. I did it in spelunky classic, and it worked, so it HAS to work on spelunky HD.
So Israel I know you're always desperate to see a shopkeeper explode and we both prefer the same method of bomb jumping. But there's a minor issue, most of the time when you use this technique you'll simply have to shoot him dead instead of watching him splatter on the walls. This isn't good enough. But If you stand a bit more forward and go inbetween the 3rd and 4th product when you rob him he'll land at your foot then if you throw him backtowards his little hidey hole then he'll get up, eyes fixed on you, the bomb will detonate the moment he walks on it.

I love your guides and love to see more Content like these. I noticed, that Shopkeeper have a different AI in Multiplayer, so you have more trouble doing the Wall-Whip. Can you do tell us some small tricks defeating Olmec? He is often a pain in a Butt, if you run out of ropes during the fight and then you softlocks. I found randomly a trick, where there is a middle path of blocks, which you can climb, but I was not able to reproduce it. Maybe you can find it out. Thats it at first ;b "Teabag the Shopkeeper"

I noticed, that Shopkeeper have a different AI in Multiplayer, so you have more trouble doing the Wall-Whip.
Can you do tell us some small tricks defeating Olmec? He is often a pain in a Butt, if you run out of ropes during the fight and then you softlocks. I found randomly a trick, where there is a middle path of blocks, which you can climb, but I was not able to reproduce it. Maybe you can find it out.
