    heart:
create and mc, ch 3, and insert 2 dc
ch 2 and insert 3 dc, and repeat 2 more times for a total of 4 sets of 3 dc's
when finished, attach the piece with a ch 2
sl st into the st right next to the one youre currently in
ch 1 and place 8 dc into the ch 2
ch 1 and place a sc into the next ch 2
ch 1 and into the middle stitch add 2 sc into the same st
ch 1 and place 2 more sc into the same place
ch 1 and place 1 sc into the next ch 2
ch 1 and place 8 dc into the last ch 2 space
sl st into the st that you started
    the square:
R1: at the bottom of the heart, insert your hook into the bl of the st (the rest will all be in the BACK loops of the heart)
sc into the next bl, hdc, dc, tr, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc x4, ch 2, sc x4, sc, hdc, sc, sc x4, ch 2 and sc x4, hdc, dc, ch 2 and tr, dc, hdc, sc
R2: ch 3 and dc ch 1 and place 3 dc into the ch 2 space, ch 2 and add 3 more dc (this is how you make the corners) place 3 dc into the fourth st from your hook make another corner into the ch 2 space, ch 1 and place 3 dc into the fifth st from your hook, create another corner into the next ch 2 space, place 3 dc into the third st from your hook, and create a corner into the next ch 2 space and close your row
R3: insert 3 dc into each space and create corners at the corners lol sorry if this doesnt make sense
R4: do the same thing that you did on row 3 (its really helpful to watch the vid and see what she did for refrence)
ps: i just made this to how i understand it so sorry if it doesnt make sense to you)

I’d definitely recommend starting out by learning the stitches and different terms so I’ll link you a video to hopefully help you!

It may seem tricky in the beginning but I promise it’ll get easier as you practice. For reference the first thing I crocheted was a bucket hat and then I started to explore into other things like blankets and bags!

i was hoping to love this pattern, but it’s extremely confusing. i’ve crocheted for years and i still just don’t get it. i wish you wouldn’t just say “you should have got the hang of it by now” and then move on to the next row, because the bigger the granny square gets it looks different than the previous row and can get confusing trying to figure out where to place the corners. :/ spent over an hour just trying to make one because a lot of details were glossed over and then you’re already moving onto the next row. this is my second time redoing my first square and i give up. the heart part was super simple but you just go to fast and don’t explain very much

I’ve made 20 hearts, followed the video for each one, they all look fairly uniform but now moved on to make the square and I don’t seem to t have enough stitches around the heart to accommodate the 1st round of the lighter colour. Thought I’d made it too small even though they all look the same and I followed the video each time, but it’s the same with the 1st 2 hearts I’ve tried?

If the squares are slipstitched too tightly together it can make them look uneven and bumpy which I know would bother me for sure, so if you’re okay with redoing the connecting part then I’d say go for it!
