As a 38 year-old man who has worked at a salt mine since the age of 18 and started at $9 an hour and am now on salary in middle management for a bit under $85,000 a year and I'm almost 40! I have no idea how she could have that kind of money. I own a $110,,000 home and it took me 18 years to pay it off. This lady blew that amount of money in a third of a year!!! She has to be royalty or have billionaire parents, not even a high-class prostitute or gold-digger would have that kind of money. The funny thing is that I've soloed the Black Mage on my Marksman years ago and my gear was far from perfect. Hell, most of my characters gear was actually mediocre at best and yeah, it took me over a dozen tries but I managed it. This interview just seems off to me.

Damn! My wife usually packs my lunches and they are generally sandwiches and some chips or the occasional salad with some cheese and an egg/cracker on the side with a few packets of thousand island. When times get tough they go from club sandwiches to peanut butter and jelly or tuna salad ones but I still can't complain. I remember my wife forgetting to pack my lunch in my bag one morning and permitting me to order out back in 2013 when our son was a toddler and feeling sick (so she couldn't bring me lunch) so I drove to Taco Bell and ordered a cheesy bean and rice burrito, a water cup, a crunchy taco, a side of chips with both cheese sauce and salsa, and a caramel apple empanada for dessert. I tried all of the sauce packets from mild to diablo and they were all great in their own ways but fire stood out to me as my personal favorite. I haven't went back since but have tried to convince my wife to let me take the family out to eat there but she is EXTREMELY frugal. She will cook meals in bulk, prepare snack bags for our son, and pre-package my work lunches in groups of three of each twice a week and on Sunday she usually prepares a fancy meal or a platter of some sort on sports games and holidays. Usually a lot of fruits and veggies and some cheeses, a few meats, and hummus and other dips, etc with pretzels, pita chips, and of course dippable veggies. I remember splurging after my tax refund before I met my wife (we were young when we met) and eating at a Chinese All You Can Eat Buffet and that was INSANE! They had so many foods it blew my mind and the eg rolls dipped in white rice with some soy and duck sauce or Chinese mustard was an experience! The chicken or something on a stick was weird but the sweet and sour chicken was good. Too much chicken and pork though and all they had for fish was salmon and shrimp and the salmon was good but the shrimp tasted old. I got sick after I ate there though (probably from the shrimp) so I suggest avoiding the shrimp at Chinese All You Can Eat Buffets.

There's always a balance between having the money to do what you want vs you don't use your money for anything else. Maple could be their only real spending in their life other than necessities, or they live lavishly and maple is just a hobby.

I really think you missed one important question: what kind of business does she do? She doesn't have to specify, but just telling us which industry she works in e.g. finance, entertainment, etc would've been great! Cause right now there are only three options: She was born wealthy, got lucky in stocks/crypto, or started OnlyF. Starting a successful business with no money is extremely doubtful. The only other option is she's famous, or did get lucky with her start-up business and she's in her late 20's since she only said "in her 20's".
I made lvl 200 back in the day before cubing and all that nonsense was a thing. I feel like the game got ruined once they figured out how to squeeze dumb people for money through a ridiculously low yield RNG system. Then they added the extra cubing for more lines and will probably add a third set of cubing some day if they can get more people like this to blow their savings on pixels. Ehh, I kinda get the spending addiction. I was a whale for league of legends before I quit a few years ago. From 2012 to 2020 I had spent probably 80k on skins and the boxes. Been debating on selling the account at some point for about half what I put in since it has tons of skins you can't get anymore along with borders. It does become addicting and the attention is nice. I've thrown maybe 10k at maple and I can't see being a whale on it though just because the time limits on cash items but I will 100% spend on pets and the skills for them, along with storage upgrades and whatnot. Tried the gacha thing but it wasn't.... interesting enough for me to get to far into it and with how some of my characters can farm billions in a day or two I don't really need to sell the cash stuff for meso anyways.

I will try not to put down someone else's enjoyment but I just don't get spending that much money to get character power. Because even if you become the strongest you didn't earn it you paid for it. And if its the gambling aspect why not just gamble at slots or casinos where you can actually get something real back out of it. Maybe its just because I'm not wealthy that I cant fathom spending $40k a month on a game. I feel guilty when I spend $20-40 on cosmetics in a month. I used to be addicted to maplestory when I was younger from 10-15 I even had a summer job which I spent all my money on nx. I would say I spent over like 3k on nx, cubbing and trading lol this describes an addiction on a larger scale. Trying to get the best stats on every item and wasting so much money that you could be saving.
Whales are the reason the game exists in the state it does. The worst boss fights and the worst upgrade system I've ever seen, and I play PoE. Even the events push you to spend real money by offering you a small amount of low probability upgrade chances to ruin your items, forcing you to drain your mesos and buy NX. If Maplestory couldn't exist without being like this, is it even worth existing?
I still like the game and log on from time to time on my marksman but private servers are way to go anymore honestly. Mapleroyals and Legends have the old school "feel" I guess.

You can see in her answer with 'what you want for the future of maple' she answers with MORE power, MORE items to make the character stronger.... this aspect of the game is what ruined Maplestory to begin with. DMG Numbers getting bigger, mobility getting faster, things becoming insanely overwhelming. The funny thing is that I've soloed the Black Mage on my Marksman years ago and my gear was far from perfect. Hell, most of my characters gear was actually mediocre at best and yeah, it took me over a dozen tries but I managed it.

Damn! My wife usually packs my lunches and they are generally sandwiches and some chips or the occasional salad with some cheese and an egg/cracker on the side with a few packets of thousand island. When times get tough they go from club sandwiches to peanut butter and jelly or tuna salad ones but I still can't complain.
I remember my wife forgetting to pack my lunch in my bag one morning and permitting me to order out back in 2013 when our son was a toddler and feeling sick (so she couldn't bring me lunch) so I drove to Taco Bell and ordered a cheesy bean and rice burrito, a water cup, a crunchy taco, a side of chips with both cheese sauce and salsa, and a caramel apple empanada for dessert. I tried all of the sauce packets from mild to diablo and they were all great in their own ways but fire stood out to me as my personal favorite.
I haven't went back since but have tried to convince my wife to let me take the family out to eat there but she is EXTREMELY frugal. She will cook meals in bulk, prepare snack bags for our son, and pre-package my work lunches in groups of three of each twice a week and on Sunday she usually prepares a fancy meal or a platter of some sort on sports games and holidays.
Usually a lot of fruits and veggies and some cheeses, a few meats, and hummus and other dips, etc with pretzels, pita chips, and of course dippable veggies.
I remember splurging after my tax refund before I met my wife (we were young when we met) and eating at a Chinese All You Can Eat Buffet and that was INSANE! They had so many foods it blew my mind and the eg rolls dipped in white rice with some soy and duck sauce or Chinese mustard was an experience! The chicken or something on a stick was weird but the sweet and sour chicken was good. Too much chicken and pork though and all they had for fish was salmon and shrimp and the salmon was good but the shrimp tasted old.
I got sick after I ate there though (probably from the shrimp) so I suggest avoiding the shrimp at Chinese All You Can Eat Buffets.

I feel like the game got ruined once they figured out how to squeeze dumb people for money through a ridiculously low yield RNG system. Ehh, I kinda get the spending addiction. I was a whale for league of legends before I quit a few years ago. From 2012 to 2020 I had spent probably 80k on skins and the boxes. Been debating on selling the account at some point for about half what I put in since it has tons of skins you can't get anymore along with borders. It does become addicting and the attention is nice. I've thrown maybe 10k at maple and I can't see being a whale on it though just because the time limits on cash items but I will 100% spend on pets and the skills for them, along with storage upgrades and whatnot. Tried the gacha thing but it wasn't.... interesting enough for me to get to far into it and with how some of my characters can farm billions in a day or two I don't really need to sell the cash stuff for meso anyways.

I will try not to put down someone else's enjoyment but I just don't get spending that much money to get character power. Because even if you become the strongest you didn't earn it you paid for it. And if its the gambling aspect why not just gamble at slots or casinos where you can actually get something real back out of it. I used to be addicted to maplestory when I was younger from 10-15 I even had a summer job which I spent all my money on nx. I would say I spent over like 3k on nx, cubbing and trading lol this describes an addiction on a larger scale. Trying to get the best stats on every item and wasting so much money that you could be saving.

Whales are the reason the game exists in the state it does. The worst boss fights and the worst upgrade system I've ever seen, and I play PoE. Even the events push you to spend real money by offering you a small amount of low probability upgrade chances to ruin your items, forcing you to drain your mesos and buy NX. If Maplestory couldn't exist without being like this, is it even worth existing?

this is infuriating. not the fact that she spends money on something she enjoys, thats all fine and well... its the fact that if money couldn't get you success in the game the way it is now, she wouldn't have enjoyed it. maplestory was a great game even before it became p2w, and her attitude towards the way games transform into these years is exactly the toxic behavior that makes modern online games feel soulless. sentences like "if i get bored ill make a 2nd main" so casually, considering the implications of that are the yearly income of about 3-4 people in a matter of less than half a year, as well as "I enjoy the RNG and gambling" after it was pretty much proven the odds were fabricated in some cases, and in others kept a secret from the players, and also saying reboot is not appealing to her, even though its the same game but with less shortcuts, its like... you know you can just go to nexon, give them a million dollars right there on the spot, and they'll give you a maxed out character probably. why go through buying the NX, making a character, playing alone, its like you dont even enjoy what the game has to offer, but just want to see the title of number 1, and see the highest numbers on the damage scale. enjoy a game however you like, but remember that in extreme cases like these, actions of the individual have implications on everyone else, particularly effecting the way nexon sees their customers as piggy banks, and not human players, and it shows.

I apologize for my take on this, but I'm not going to be as nice as some other people in the comments saying stuff like "everyone can play how they want, let them enjoy the game", as that's very well true... these types of people are ruining this game. You can see in her answer with 'what you want for the future of maple' she answers with MORE power, MORE items to make the character stronger.... this aspect of the game is what ruined Maplestory to begin with. DMG Numbers getting bigger, mobility getting faster, things becoming insanely overwhelming. Take that attitude to half-baked mobile games that are just pay to win and stop prolonging the power-creep mentality in a game that HAD so much potential. These mf's literally ruined maple.
