The best car accessory I ever installed was the engine block heater I had when I lived in Vermont. Imagine -34°F and the car starts right up and warm air comes out of the ducts - no waiting. Saves fuel, saves time. Less wear and tear - for you and the engine. The tractor might like one too. Installs quickly. Remove a freeze plug. Installs in the opening.
I'd second that though I've never used one, we don't have it cold enough to justify in the west of Scotland. Most concerning though is starting an engine and leaving it idling to warm up. That's a very outdated idea that only applies to industrial engines these days. It's bad enough for petrol (gas) engines but chronic for diesels, either type suffers heavy wear and significantly shorter component life for a lot of the emissions gear too. Also, a complete waste of fuel. A block heater is brilliant investment where you have freezing weather regularly, otherwise put a coat on and warm your engine in the first few miles of the journey.
Hi Al, have you thought about how you’re going to put your garden beds to rest this winter so that your spring gardening can be a breeze? My suggestion would be to cover it with some of your aged or nearly aged compost, wet it and then cover it with some of your spent hay or straw. That way you can just plant and you will almost be weed free and less watering. Your channel is my favourite because you tolerate us 😂😂😂🇬🇧
How old is aged compost if you didn't aerate? A few months, 6 months, a year? I've been trying to figure out how to handle my newly no-till garden this fall. I have a compost pile that I piled up in the spring(April) and turned once.
Aleza Johnson. From my experience my beds are ready for planting underneath the straw by spring even without turning, however I’ve had better results when I have also covered them with a black plastic. After planting I leave the hay or straw on beds to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Our winters are very wet over here, that helps a bit.
@@cashk100 where I am the weather is more comparable to Sweden. We have cold and wet right now. But soon it will almost never get above freezing for a few months at a time, then it's dry and cold...but with 1-3 ft of snow(depending on the year). I'm guessing I would have to use finished compost or close to it.

Good Morning Beautiful People, I look forward to seeing your daily adventures with coffee. I have a 10 acre ranch finishing up with a cancer illness. Your Kubota tractor. We have a big tractor with no power steering, so a mid size seems to be of my interest. Can you discuss pros and cons? Today you used some clamp on fork lift which would work great for the rolls of hay for my horse and cows I'm thinking, but! Can it lift that much hay?
The Kountry Krafter the lift weight of that Kubota is 400 lbs. we have one just like it. So most rolled hay starts at 500 lbs. you would not be able to pick it up. Need a BIG Kubota if you are going to do that. We use square bales for our horses..
Do you want to get an olive egg layer rooster so you can have pure bred chicks? They are such a unique looking bird! And you mentioned yesterday about if there was a place that had mild summers but better winters, well one place is Portland OR. Mild summers not too humid, mostly rain in the winter, sometimes you get some snow.I moved here from Minnesota and have lived it. Really includes everything from here out to the coast and up in to Washington. 🌺💚
You've answered a question I've been kicking around; for a first winter if a coop cannot be build, would bales be enough insulation in a green house. I saw one guy heating his small green house with the internal heat from composting leaves around his green house.
If the gates on those plastic crates get tough to slide.. Ta k e some of the old pieces of soap from the shower & run them in the grooves. Lubes it up nice.

The chicks look great! Bet they love their new home!
Your doing a great Job on that farm, but just a word of caution, when the respirators are not in use they should
be placed in a air tight bag. Air is still going through them sitting on the shelf. You only got so many hours
before they are rendered useless. I like your videos
For VOCs, they'd be useless. For catching muck and dust; just fine.
Was wondering if you ever considered using the compost pile to heat the winter garden for the chickens or even a greenhouse?
She is my favorite person right now. 😂 can I do that with my house?😍🙏 Amen honey, it’s finally dropped out of the 90’s here in Florida and I have been doing more farm work. The house is on the back burner Un til it gets too cold to work outside!
Watch those roosters with that beautiful little girl. They can get ornery in no time. We raised one that had not been treated very well, he was very sickly and we nursed him back to health, he thanked us by attacking us every time we went to the chicken house, my husband wouldn’t have it. He was quickly dispatched. Just don’t be to trusting. I’m sure you already know, but I just wanted to warn you. Love your videos. Great family!!
Good morning,I had to laugh when you said 6 and Gina said to Al that means 16,lol,.Who doesn't love Moose,he cracks me up.He struts around like a little emperor looking over his subjects.Lumnah family you make my day.
I miss Andy to he was a great rooster - with your ducks where are the eggs? we never really see you collect them
Christa Inglis the ducks are both males
I was wondering too. I guess they're just pets? Or do they have a purpose/job?
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !! & Thank You for your Time !!
Al, I suggest a Justin Rhode's style chickshaw, small space for several chickens and mobile when you need to move them.
That was a productive day on the homestead! Blessings to all.
Not sure what the Coop is called it's off the ground coop from tractor supply has an open outside screened in porch and closed in night time safety part you should look it up it's very nice...
Loved Hopes look when you opened their door 😂
Yay I was waiting for the special chicken move!!
For the smaller flock.....what about a wagon build similar to the PPM? Is there a smaller wagon kit? New yolk city is awesome.....and the pig mobile rocks. A combination of the two would be the best of both styles👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Good Morning Beautiful People,
I look forward to seeing your daily adventures with coffee.
What is the yellow implement on the drive by the compost heap , surely it should be stored somewhere under cover
before winter sets in ?
you need some brahma either large fowl or bantam sized. We have 4 light brahma (LF) hens and they are fun.
Copper Moran has chocolate EGGS. AMERICANA are blue green. A white egg layer Rooster will give you beautiful blue eggs.
And when you cross them the resulting offspring lay olive green eggs. 😊
Some of my favorite breeds to add variety to my laying flock are dark brahma, salmon favorelles, dorkings and dominiques.
Fun on the farm. I loved this entire video. ~Smile!
OMG the guy at the store tossed that bale of hay like it was light as a feather!
You've answered a question I've been kicking around; for a first winter if a coop cannot be build, would bales be enough insulation in a green house. I saw one guy heating his small green house with the internal heat from composting leaves around his green house.
yes, if there is no cold air drifting in all the time (completely covered house)
@Lumnah Acres New coop name Yolktown. Maybe some Polish but Delawares and Silkies are cold hardy and cute.
If the gates on those plastic crates get tough to slide.. Ta k e some of the old pieces of soap from the shower & run them in the grooves. Lubes it up nice.
Was thinking if you moved the structure you could push that stuff around with your snowplow
Y'all keep accomplishing so much together. I got tickled at Olivia when she asked about the chicken tractor.
Gina is really learning to use the tractor!🚜 Chickens 🐓 will love their new home! Hope you have a great day!💕
