- This is the final scene from the film 'The Boys From Syracuse'.(1940) It's a medley of a few of the great Rodgers & Hart tunes that were added to ... or kept in ... the show when it went from Broadway to Hollywood.
Thanks for posting this old gem, have never seen it,tho I have loved the score forever !
And yes the UA-cam version is enjoyable !
I don't understand why it's not put back on t.v like on t.cm .so it's not the best film version of the musical play . It should be officially put out . I think Irene Harvey was the mother of jack jones whose father was Allan.
I remember one great line "Our taxes are more than our income. That isn't logical" "This isn't logic. It's taxes!"
This is really rare. Universal's non-horror films from the 30s and 40s(with notable exceptions)slid off the radar in later years. Universal seemed more interested in flogging the Paramount films that they owned.
If any film adaptation of a Broadway show deserves a remake, it's this one. This film version is far inferior to the stage version.
Camelot really needs a re-do, too.
wish I could see this movie!
Ronette Pulaski The last time I remember seeing this on tv was in the early eighties. Too bad. It’s a fun movie.
I did the actual musical "boys from syracuse" in high school (I was one of the dromios). My director had a vhs of this and let me borrow it. I haven't seen this film since
Yes, Steve, it is rare. I don't think there's a good print in existence. Universl; was in way above their heads in this one. The plot is mangled and the songs are all switched around to feature Allan Jones. A much more authentic version of the complete show is on UA-cam from the Stratford Festival. The quality isn't the best but it's a lot of fun.
Terrible!!!!!!
