@Mefith K M I agree. I loved this movie when it came out, and still do as a fun, cheesy movie. However, I knew even back then this would be spreading the wrong idea about illnesses like Dissociative Identity Disorder among the public. I haven't seen the Tamil version Chandramukhi, but the original Malayalam version of that from 1993 - Manichithrathazhu - is a more realistic depiction of the condition. Although, even that is a bit theatrical when you judge it by actual psychiatric standards. Anniyan is just loads of fun to watch, but just that. People should be aware that neither the depiction or the performance is anything close to what is real.
Harikrishnan J Correct......as u Said, Anniyan is a very gud entertainer. In that sense i also like it very much, bt many fans are unnecessarily claiming it as a class film which always irritated me. Glad that i found at least one guy on youtube who knows the difference between being realistic and entertaining..

This movie is about split personality .. A normal man(Ambi) trying to fight for justice . Ambi , Remo and Anyann are the same person . One is a playboy (Remo) , other is a sage like innocent character(Ambi) .
And finally Anyann is a Crime fighter , a vigilantee , a punisher.(The guy who was beating the shit out of policemen) ..
He punishes people extremely..
He is like the dark Lord of vengeance and justice ..

He has Multiple personality disorder which is why when the other guy is torturing him, a personality of him(the insane one) came into foreplay to save the innocent personality.

As the innocent lawyer Ambi he is less toned and has a bit of a belly, while as the vigilante Anniyan he turns fully toned. He shot first as Ambi and then took a couple weeks off to shoot as Anniyan for this scene

Isn't it obvious. As far as foreigners are concerned, to them - Indian movies = Bollywood movies. Even if you show them any Random India movie they'll automatically assume it's a Bollywood movie just like that. It's not their mistake to assume so anyhow... Bollywood has become the basement for Indian cinema and thus smaller branches like Kollywood, Mollywood and Tollywood that have potential are getting downgraded at the same time for the mistakes that Bollywood do.

Definitely makes more sense in context. The hero’s a straightforward-to-a-fault lawyer who has a split personality of a almost superhuman grim-reaper like vigilante punishes different wrongdoers in society, and this cop thinks he’s just a serial killer who just happened to kill his brother. the hero alternates between both personalities in this scene. Imagine Banner turning to and back into the Hulk in a matter of seconds.

the split personality 'Anniyan' killed the police officer's brother earlier in the movie. so, the cop had a personal vendetta on top of bringing the murderer to justice. That sort of answers the question of why a police station had all those torture equipment. remember, the cop had turned off the camera when he barged in saying he'll get him to confess in 10 minutes . But the other cop turned on the camera before he left the room.

That moment is this great culmination of everything that came before it, and it's the jumping-off point for everything that comes after it. Taking it out of context, I think, would make it seem like just twelve guys getting shot.

the punishments are according to vedic hell, from a book similar to dante's inferno. ofcourse a normal police station in india is not like this. but the police has been trying to get this serial killer of corrupt ppl,our hero, for a long time. he used similar punishments from inferno on his victims.
