    this is the best demo i've seen so far. it sounds very alive. and eerie but in a beautiful way. everything else i've seen on youtube was just noisy soundscapes with very little musical character. really great demonstration

      agreed. excellent demonstration. very informative. I just purchased the bundle. all of their plugins have so much character and easily applicable depth.

    It does sound incredible. Great for designing atmospheric soundtracks and effects for games and movies. The way the partials are handled in this plugin provides for incredible spatial immersion. But also experimentation that I don't think we've seen anywhere else.

    It sounds pretty cool to me! The spatializer in particular seems very powerful, but I'm sure there are loads more depths to the rest of it as well. Probably you just scratched the surface in this video, even though it was impressive as hell. Definitely one to add to my list of nice-to-haves :)

    I love how there are 64 signals (one per partial) on each patch cable. I had lots of fun with the ADSR and pitch for partials with vocal content. Really unsettling voice 😂

    Thanks for the review and insights. To my ears, it has a Synclavier-like quality. (Arturia's version is amazing with included original samples). But this takes things further with a Phase Plant user experience to some degree. Your description of partials here also reminds me of Zappa's use of the Synclavier when he called partials "digital dust". 😂 Good stuff. May have to open the wallet on this one.

    Wawtsup! I like the window of how you are framed, I noticed that the rear side is fuzzy in opposition to the front side which is straight. The fuzzy looks better, but it could also be the background of those partials causing that distortion and something to which you have no control whatsoever... Hi!

    Dawesome MYTH resynthesis (additive) seems to do similar things aka drop an audio file and create a oscilator and this is making a wavetable? Myth is very musical it's going to be intresting what comes from this.

    • @whistletom
      @whistletom День тому +2

      Myth uses a different type of resynthesis. A kind of matrix factorization like in Anemond's Factorsynth. Sumu uses additive with a noise component

  • @Windiguana

      This isn't wavetable. It's partial maps consisting of sine waves with noise.

    Like in Logic Pro alchemy ?

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  10 годин тому

      I might be wrong because it’s very inaccessible it’s hard to compare but alchemy’s partials are fixed at intervals, you can adjust the interval in real-time but nothing near what you can do in Sumu. You also don’t need to buy an apple computer just to use it 😉

    Finally, someone looking at the natural deviations of acoustic partials... Dash Glitch, this is an understatement: You are one of the most intelligent, open and inspiring people I know of and follow (my only subscription is Kilohearts, discovered thanks to you). Wish I had a similar brain but I'll have to settle for mine:) Thank You once again for your great energy and work!

      Stop being lazy, Imagine being a sound designer in the 50s and using signal generators and tape loops. Sumu is worth the (negligible) time investment it takes. One sample goes a very long way.

    I haven't heard anything so far (in all the vids I've watched, not just this one) from this synth that is any different or better than anything else, and, Dash, you really didn't seem all that into it either. Sumu sometimes sounds like cheap tape manipulations from the 70's. Speaking of which, even Severed Heads could get better sounds back in the early eighties than this Sumu. Or Iris 2.
    Maybe one day, someone will finally figure out Sumu in a way that can make me appreciate it and say, wow, but so far, it's disappointing.
    Have you ever heard some of the-- free-- synths from NI's Reaktor library?
    I get this nagging suspicion that there are a lot of people who want to like Sumu and aren't being honest with themselves.
    Meanwhile, Dash hogs the screen as usual, so that Sumu has to be scaled down. Given my review/comment here, I suppose it's appropriate.
    ...Importing a granular synth's sound into Sumu? Really? What's the point? Adding a reverb? Really? Why? Should we not listen to Sumu standing on its own.
    Come on Dash. Up your game.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  22 години тому

      At least try and comprehend the explanation I’ve given, I’ve supplied several objective reasons why it’s unlike anything else on the market. I wouldn’t put the effort into covering something I’m not interested in, this is truly awesome and I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so - see other comments. Your criticisms of the plugin and my video are both unfair. I actually zoomed in the plugin specifically for you lol

    • @glomerol8300

      @@DashGlitch I'm actually on KVR on the Instruments Section --> Sumu thread. I posted my previous comment there (with some added stuff). They, maybe you, are telling me to listen again at certain times. So that's what I'll do. Thanks for the zoom...
      Edit: Ok, well, I listened again to the parts recommended and as someone suggested on KVR is to check the demo, which I agreed.
      Anyway, thanks for yours here. If you truly believe in it then we'll take a demo.
