A review of the Hold & Fold 5 Speed PE bending tool. It's a little pricey but, a great bit of kit, especially if you're into after market photo etch.
Thanks for the comments. Well done on finding it cheaper, great result. Did you get the cutting tool as well?
I got the Bug hold and fold which is smaller but found it invaluable as you mentioned. Bit pricey but you will definitely get your money back .
I saw the link to this video on ISM a few days ago. Thank you very much for showing this bending tool! I will acquire it soon.
My mum's boyfriend has a model train set. I'm not sure what gauge, It's the one where the distance between the tracks is about 8-10mm. He told me he wanted a hold & fold for Christmas. It' for making things like engine sheds and little houses. I can't remember what he said he makes them out of (I'm sure he used the words 'acid' and 'brass'). He said that 5-6" would be more than adequate. Do you think that this product that you are showing is the kind of thing that he is looking for?
It is a very good bit of kit - Make sure you get the clamping/cutting too as well, it's very handy :D
Great and informative look at the product but can I suggest that if you are going to do a review on tools that you actually use them in the video to ensure they work as described, otherwise it's not really a review is it? For example, Tamiya photo etch pliers are expensive here in Oz, and do a somewhat okay job, but there are better and cheaper options around that grip better and you wouldn't know this unless a reviewer actually compared the different products by using them. It's just a suggestion...
I've actually ordered a 5" hold and fold and they ARE great gear, I know this as a mate's got one that has really been put through it's paces. Keep up the good work!
8 year old review so things change over time. Maybe check out some newer reviews of ours ;)
Great review Lee. I've boon looking at getting a folder and opted to go for the same one as seems to have more options on it than the Bug. I found it on the Historex Agents website for £46.65 which is the cheapest I've found it so ordered today. Keep up the videos :)
It was a toss up between the Bug and the 5 Speed. I went for the 5 Speed as I'm doing a couple of floaty things soon that have some long PE parts... :)
Thanks, glad you liked it :D
Great, crisp review. Bravo!
No I held back on the cutting tool. I use a small sheet of toughened safety glass as a base for cutting PE. I usually put a small steel ruler over the top to hold the piece in place then use a sharp scalpel blade to cut. I may opt to go for the cutter later on. Historex had them as well at a reasonable price Small which comes with 3 cutting plates and the one you got.
Your videos are always so engaging :),
The topics for your vids are on point :),
This vid of yours had me glued to the screen:),
What camera do you use to shoot your episodes?,
What mike do use?
Hi lee can you still get the hold and fold
Ah ha, i've been wondering what the hell this was. I saw it on the bench in another video. great videos.
Very good video and good quality..thanks for the review
This is the thing he wanted, so I've got it for him.
Thanks for the advice!
£5 for the equivalent of a bathroom tile. I’ll stick with a bathroom tile. The folding tool seems first rate, though.
what in the hell, this looks like a good product but the cheapest I can find is $200 aud, thats more than most 1:350 scale ship models, very not worth it for me
Obviously not looking hard enough....!!! Here's a link for you.....thesmallshop.com
