  • It seems like everything tastes better with bacon. There are so many recipes where you just need a few slices, but bacon is sold by the pound.
    Once you open it, you risk having it go bad before you can use it all.
    You could cook the whole pound at once, but there's a much easier and more convenient way to do it: Freeze it.
    In this video you'll learn a simple method for quick freezing your bacon on cookie sheets and then storing it in freezer bags so you can conveniently take a few pieces as you need them--and the rest won't go bad.

    What I do is to lay out a piece of plastic wrap, put one slice on the edge, roll, add another, roll, etc. That way I end up with a nice flat log, and am able to simply unroll it for one slice at a time.

    I have learned this a couple days ago:
    1) get parchment paper long enough to lay the bacon without touching each other
    2) and then start the long way by rolling the parchment paper with the bacon on it
    3) then in between each bacon take sizzors and cut parchment paper
    4) place all the wrap bacon in to a Ziploc bag and put it in the freezer.
    THIS WOULD BE DEFINITELY GOOD FOR ONE PERSON TO DO.

      That's interesting! I don't have a problem with the bacon sticking, so wouldn't want to waste the parchment.

    very nice tips! i've been looking all over for a way to store bacon effectively since i've been re-thaw and refreezing it, and it doesn't seem to be an effective way of doing things. So far, i think your video is the best! no need for complicated method, just a bag and flash freeze! thank you for the video!
    one question, can the plastic bag be reused for further storage?

      I reuse the bag for more bacon, but nothing else since it's held raw bacon.

    What's your preferred method for cooking frozen slices? Baking in the oven? Pan-frying?

      +Nicholas Lohr It depends on how many I need, Nicholas - I usually microwave 1-3 pieces on paper towels, use my electric skillet for 4-8 slices and use oven cooking for when I want to cook the whole package. Hope that helps!

    I am just wondering if you have ever tried freezing it after it is cooked. I have heard that you can do this and it extends their life cooked. Plus you can cook it all at once apparently. Haven't tried.

      +Cdogvlog 55 cook it all at once, and then use it over a whole month instead of having to cook bacon 5 times a month just cook it all once.

      @AnOregonCottage  8 років тому +1

      +Cdogvlog 55 Yes, I do do that sometimes, but lots of recipes use the bacon grease to flavor onions, etc. and if it's all cooked, there's not much left. It all depends on what you're using it for!

      +AnOregonCottage I am talking about bacon just by itself for continental breakfast type thing. The slow cooker turns itself on for just an hour or 2 on low to cook the eggs. I was thinking of putting the frozen cooked bacon in there at the same time.

    How long do they last in freezer?

    • @AnOregonCottage
      @AnOregonCottage  Рік тому

      I've never had them go bad or get freezer burn. But the standard for most things like this is about 6 months.

    It's more convenient? There is no reason to do this.

      Steven Davis No you’re right. Just thaw the entire pack every time you want a slice. You’re a genius.

      @@jxnwlf69 Why does it have to be frozen?

    • @jxnwlf69
      @jxnwlf69 4 роки тому +2

      Steven Davis The point of freezing it is to store it away longer than in the fridge. Not everyone cooks the entire pack in 3-5 days.

      I have lots of recipes that call for just a few slices of bacon, so this makes it easy to pull out just what I need for that. Also, it's just two of us and if we want bacon with eggs in the morning, I can just cook up 4 slices. :)
