As a beginner in the Shopify universe, I would desperately appreciate your advice on "Child themes" in Shopify - How do I update the installed theme without loosing all the customizations I have made?? I'm working on a duplicate but want to utilize bug fixes and updates?
I fall into the confusing category I call Semi-coder :-)
I know enough to make changes to my code (CSS, HTML and some bits of Liquid now, with heavy reliance on the Inspect tool), yet not enough to feel comfortable with JS, Json and full developer tools & lingo. So finding tutorials that are in-between is not easy. I trust and hope I am not the only one who will appreciate future videos that are aimed at us Semi-coders!

Hey Jan! Great to see how well your channel is doing. The production value of your videos has really gone up. I would love to see a deep dive into Shopify Functions since Shopify Scripts will eventually be phased out. I have run through their tutorial for Volume discounts and had some marginal success. Deployed my app to my dev store however the volume discount didn't appear when clicking on the discounts in the sidebar. I actually followed along with one of your other videos for this, everything appeared to work. I'll retry it with a fresh development store.
It'd be nice to see something like specific line item discounts for customers that are tagged a certain way as that's a common client request for Shopify Scripts. Going through that process from start to finish would be really beneficial I think to a lot of people. Appreciate all you do, keep it up!

Shopify function now in JS is great add-on as I am also lazy in learning rust 😂😂😂 and the reason why Shopify bring it in JS because they also know user of rust are few and in order to boost use of Shopify function they must allow support to the best language with more user which is JavaScript so here it is finally❤❤❤

Staying in Bali, Indonesia for 2 months remote work during winter.
Hot on my list is metaobjects, specifically if it's a workaround for NATIVE custom product/variant objects! 100+ variant products, 3+ variant options, personalized products, composite products, or product-families, etc. If we can hotswap a meta-object-product(s) for a regular product-variant there's a lot of edge cases that could finally be solved natively without apps.
Slow going trying to go through the object nesting behavior in liquid due to how MOBs syntax isn't just simple property dot notation.

Yeah that's really interesting indeed. That plus they can be sold a apps, which justifies spending more time on making them great.
I need to just bite the bullet and start paying for the $19 plan, even though I'm a developer wanting to create apps, and not a merchant. I'd like to be able to have all of the infrastructure available to me, for being able to code all aspects of backend and frontend, including being able to use hydrogen.
I can't get motivated with just my developer store for some reason. I might even look for local eclectic shops in my city for something fun to sell, to get into the shoes of a merchant.

Oxygen - There's a merchant need now for total cost of ownership in doing a hydrogen store vs online channel themes; i.e. When to switch.
Functions there's a need to know what can they do that checkout scripts can't.

I think meta objects are not specifically intended for "bundles", but we can definitley explore different use cases there.
In terms of Bundles Shopify functions might be interesting, but they're also a bit more advanced.
I'll see what we can do!
So far I think you could use MOBs to manage which/how products go together*. But MOBs cannot directly 🤔 affect data like pricing, nor automatically add the UI for such merchandising to a theme.
*collections or Metafield definitions are commonly used to organize this currently.

@@hazemsaber4245 For implementing edge cases like this; most everyone that knows gets paid to do and not to teach.
MOB's are too new, and for bundles there's no curated reference for implementing such specifics.
For associating products, or doing upsells, there's many many disparate discussions & approaches on shopifys community forums; or in partner slack or dev discord. It's mainly experimentation and experience in using the available data structures & behaviors to get an outcome.
Main thing to know is there is no native bundling behavior or similar feature in shopify that can be repurposed so it's ALL workarounds. With inventory sync'ing being the most common issue to solve in bundling when you present the bundle as a single product on the frontend but in the backend it's actually multiple separate variants.
Thanks Jan, what would be interesting to see is how meta objects can be implemented in the website frontend. For example. Can you search meta objects like you can with products?

@@jan.emgetriebel-shopify metaobjects do not seem to be part of the online store Ajax api, combine that with limitations of having to access MOBs individually by type+handle and no custom url query string system* seems app-dev would be required to even begin with.

No, not so much.
Freemote is perfect for beginners who want to get started with freelancing (say get to $3-5k per month) and some have also made their way up to six figures in yearly earnings. We can also help if you want to land a full-time developer position.
Custom Hydrogen Builts on the other hand are more suited for larger brands / enterprise clients. When getting started as a Freelancer it's a bit harder to get your hands on these clients, so that's why we focus on different services first.

Currently a store would need Shopify plus for this if even possible using checkout-scripts. Unclear if Shopify-functions will allow this.
An alternative is to issue a refund,store credit(gift card), etc. Or use the draft orders api and preask what method will be used before checkout and apply discounts. Etc
