i think you slightly underestimated Liam Gordon's impact, some of his movement down the line has been just as impactful as Barratts. His final ball isn't as good but his strength and quick feet has created lots of attacking opportunities for the Saddlers this season.
Very good in depth analysis. We certainly are a different force this season, one man you barely mentioned was Jamille Matt. I was dubious that we gave him another year but his contribution as a leader and playing most games so far has been a major plus. He has helped to bring the best from Lowe and occupies defences with his presence leading the line. Also we have Danny Johnson warming the bench who has a good goal return at this level but can't get look in. Reckon Notts will be promoted come May just hope we keep run going to finish above.
Great video, ironically the signing of the season happened last summer with Harry Williams followed by Connor Barrett. Refreshing to finally have a consistent 11 and bench for a change at the Saddlers
The reason that Taylor Allen's technique and set pieces are so good is because throughout his youth and senior career he's essentially progressed from a striker all the way to a centre-back. There's been occasions where he's played as the LWB and even the LCM when required, such as when Earing went off a couple of days ago against Newport, Daniels came on to take Tayl's position and Tayl's moved up to LCM.
Great video Tom! To add one more thing, I think one of the biggest ways we’ve improved as the season has gone on has been our adaptability. The Newport game was a perfect example because the press you highlighted here wasn’t really working, Lakin was triggering the press on the left but the Newport back line are very comfortable on the ball and they were able to move it into the gap left by Lakin. We then changed tact and instead Liam Gordon pushed way up on the left to press their right back and Lakin stayed more central, with Barrett tucking in on the other side to make a back 4. This made it far more difficult for Newport to play out and I’m not sure at the start of the season we would have figured that out.
Great analysis Tom- hope you make a successful career from this type of work. As for tomo, I fear we will suffer from not rotating our squad enough. Our midfield 3 looked knackered v Newport and may not be able to protect our back 5. Anyroad - Happy New Year to all EFL fans
Worth noting that Walsall have one of the lowest posession stats in the league but have scored the most goals. Very comfortable without the ball and dont mess about on the attack. In League two, possesion play does very little as demonstrated at the weekend where newport had 60% possession but had just one shot on target which was a nothing free kick.
Absolutely top class video tom, was so spot on and knowledgeable, really enjoyed watching/listening to somebody that knows their football and knows what they are on about 👌.... county are definitely 1 of the best teams in the league and probably the best we've played so far, definitely gonna be top 3 with us come may, should be a banging game tomorrow.... keep on with your quality vids pal and good luck for the rest of the season ok 👍....UTS
Great analysis Tom. I thought Notts kept Barrett quite quiet today. Matt coming on was the thing that changed it in my opinion. Mcentee aswell adding the physicality in the midfield as we were getting bossed around in the first half
From a Notts perspective: Not hoping for too much on New Year's day. I hope that The Management team can find ways to protect us in corners because Walsall will definitely take advantage of our apparent weakness in that area as shown in the Cheltenham game. The fact that they are so attacking may give us and advantage in that we can get behind them and make chances and hopefully goals. It will be a huge game and it could go either way but even a point away would be acceptable. Whether Jodi Jones will be back or not is anyone's guess but it was evident that David McGoldrick wasn't on the pitch for long at Cheltenham to save him for the Walsall match. That in my opinion was a wise move by Stuart Maynard in order to give us the strongest team possible. For all the reasons that you have pointed out, Notts need to be on their best possible form and let's hope that they will prevail in what will be a very difficult game.
If we play like we did against Newport County then as long as y'all have a striker you should beat us. I also can't comprehend how you're still in League Two seeing as you won like every game last season but c'est la vie.
Same line up for most of December has taken its toll. Very lethargic vs Newport and with only two days rest there will be changes to the squad. Jellis in particular was way off it and his replacement went off injured. I'll be surprised if we win. Edit: Funnily enough Notts are actually the last team to score against us in the league in the reverse fixture. Should be a good game
Good work Tom... Walsall fan, mostly bang on, though Jellis smashed the ball home from the great pass by Taylor Allen against Colchester.... not a chip.
It's difficult to play down our squad credentials when we're so far ahead in the league and I'm sure scouts are circling. IMHO this is the best squad we've had since we last won League 2 in 2007 and when it broke apart in the 2008 January transfer window with Dan Fox and Scott Dann both going to Coventry. Really hoping we don't see similar with Taylor Allen going this month and Lowe being recalled.
I have supported Saddlers for 60 years and its the best team we have had for along time keep going lads
Great analysis Tom. 👍
Im a Rotherham fan of 47 years and i must say this is lovely to see Wallsall tearing up league 2. You've become my first team on betting slip.

This is a special
Team I have supported Saddlers since 1968

I agree. Tom always shows a real grasp of tactical awareness and explains it so that everyone can understand.

cracking video, well explained UTS
great video! may the best team win tomorrow :)

Well done Tom, lots of work went into that video 👍 UTS 🔴

Absolutely wicked video Tom and fantastic analysis. I will take a point against you tomorrow! 🔴⚪️⚫️

Cracking video mate, up the Poundland reds

Got away with it a bit today. But great game.
As a Walsall fan just like to say to Notts county fans heads up you have a good side see you in league 1
Good work Tom... Walsall fan, mostly bang on, though Jellis smashed the ball home from the great pass by Taylor Allen against Colchester.... not a chip.

Shhh Tom don’t tell everyone our tactics 😂😂
It's a decent analysis but injuries... we've had a load.
Lost Farquarson, Daniels, Macentee, Comley, Earing, Gordon
As a seasoned Walsall fan, I'm still expecting it all to collapse around our ears at any moment! 🥴
Nae bother....
could u make a video on leyton orients tactics - top of the form table in league 1 and went from bottom 4 to playoff contenders in 2 months
As a Walsall fan can I just say how weird it is seeing us be so dominating. It seems weird seeing us not fall to Impostor Syndrome.
One word Nathan lowe (2)
That’s 2 words
Didn't dominate today first half notts made them look very ordinary
And then our brilliant manager gave them a talking to at half time and our joys did the job. THAT is a great manager
Also, we are 12 points clear with a game in hand. If that's 'ordinary ' I can't wait to see amazing
Decent analysis, but you need to get a mic mate. Really hard to listen to
