I had such an experience watching this on the big screen. I laughed, cried and cheered for the hero. The music gave me chills. I haven't seen a film like this in years. Reminded me of how I felt when I saw Jurassic Park , Jaws or Star Wars for the first time. I was honestly moved. All this from a Godzilla film , I'm in awe how good it was
I've seen it 5 times now, and I don't need to say that I loved this movie. but let me add one correction; The Shinden was equipped with an ejection seat, and Tachibana only noticed it because he saw the sign on the back of the seat written in German. The Japanese bought ejection seats from the Germans, who were ahead of most everyone else in jet fighter development, and they realized that the higher speeds of jets also presented problems during bailout. Obviously the rear-engine/push prop design made bailing out problematic, and necessitated the use of an ejection seat. The Shinden used in the movie was a full-scale mockup of the real thing, that it's my understanding Toho built for the movie, then donated it to the Peace Museum in Fukuoka, Japan. The only remaining Shinden (of 2 built) is at the Udvar-Hazy center in Washington DC.
I only got to see Minus one once before it left the theaters in my area, so I assumed the ejection seat was custom installed because that just made sense to me. Since then I’ve noticed the details of the plane being foreign made, which is meant to be foreshadowing for Shikshima’s decision at the end of the film. It’s crazy that only two of that kind of plane were ever built, and one for a movie.
Just had to say that the ejector seat was already in the aircraft. However Tachibana did likely ensure that it worked and still chose to tell Shikishima about it.
I unfortunately only got to see the movie once so I was unsure of that detail. I saw some reviews point out his plane at the end is a German model, which is a clue that it has an ejection seat he might use.
This movie was so incredible, the scenes, the destruction, the characters, and the overall quality of this movie really does seal the deal of making it the best godzilla movie thus far. My main two enjoyments of the movie was one, having godzilla seem like an actualy monster instead of just a big lizard, and two, thw human characters and drama that made me consider actually rooting for the humans instead of godzilla
A pretty good video, Brady. If I were to give a small critique from a technical/stylistic point of view, I think it would help if the beginning of your video had a thesis statement on screen which listed the 3 major reasons you listed before you explain each one. That way, the audience has something of a structure to help guide their understanding of the video essay and where it's going. The repetition would also add some emphasis to the end when you reiterate the 3 major reasons in your conclusion. Basically, I'm saying the age old adage of oral presentation of, 1) Tell them about what you're going to tell them. 2) Tell them 3) Tell them what you've just told them at the end. I think something as simple as this simple repetition would help the audience in having a good skeleton or structure by which to hang your arguments and which gives the audience a broad overview of what to expect. If you remember from English, something like PEEL (Point, Example, Explanation, Link) would be pretty helpful if not basic. Not everybody can do it like Nerdwriter1 or Like Stories of Old. Other than that, I agreed with your points although Godzilla Minus One is set in the same post-WWII time period as the original 1953 film Godzilla. It's just a different continuity. But even though it's in the same temporal setting, it develops an unique, original story that uses Godzilla conservatively in a handful of compact meaningful scenes/set pieces like the original Godzilla films rather than liberally using Godzilla inba lot of scenes which is something that's the American remakes tend to do (except for the 2014 Godzilla film). In Godzilla Minus One, the titular Godzilla only appears for like 4-5 set pieces but because of that, because of that TV Trope Conservation of Ninjutsu, it leads to Godzilla's scenes having that much impact. Other than that, a pretty good video essay.
Thank so much for the input! My writing can always use improvement. Getting coherent ideas across to the audience in a succinct way is more difficult than it seems when making a video. Sometimes I make a video thinking it makes sense just to find the final product is confusing and I’m not sure why. A little reminder on the value of good structure is helpful! Thanks for watching the video.
I enjoy some of them, but to me they’re mostly pure action spectacle with little substance. I like the 2014 Godzilla film because it’s the only entry that makes Godzilla appropriately dreadful. He’s always shown from the human perspective which makes him feel huge. In the later films they abandon this realism in favor of getting bigger fight scenes, but as a consequence Godzilla looks cartoonish. Remember when Godzilla created a tsunami in the 2014 film just by emerging from the San Francisco Bay? What happened to that sense of scale?

Godzilla minus one is my favourite movie that was released in 2023, nothing else even comes close to it
Same. Tbh I didn’t go see many movies this last year. Most everything was pretty disappointing. Thanks for watching the video
I buy all my movies from Amazon Prime Video. Do you know if this will ever be available to purchase?? Was this made by Netflix or something?

Godzilla Minus 1 is NOT a remake!!!
I am NEVER watching another Godzilla made in America. Hollywood always gets it wrong. Love Godzilla minus one
