I love how these shredders say they can do 5-6 sheets of papers at a time, and most of the time it can only do like 2-3.
Thank you. I appreciate what you said. I had gotten majority of the paper out& just gave up until I watched your video. Over 24 hrs later I plugged it in & it worked. Thank You, Thank You soooo much. It makes sense to do maintenance on it every year, also how the dust can cause the problem. I had shredded a lot of papers & 1 credit card because my machine is suppose to do it, but I don’t think I will do it again. I’m 76 yrs old back when I was raising 4 boy’s you had to pay for someone to work on anything, but nowadays you can look on you tube how to fix anything. This is why I’m so appreciative of these videos. I read some of the comments & people griping they wasted time watching the videos & some didn’t work but so many like me just had to let it cool down, who knew!!’ You did. Thanks again. you saved me from buying another shredder. I had removed the paper, reversed it etc. it was still not working. After watching your video I tried for longer and also ran an old knife along the top of the paper feed slot (when unplugged). This must of freed a small wedge of paper. Plugging in again it all worked. Thank you

Sorry folks, but I disagree with negative comments. My shredder quit working months ago. Looked fine but had a few bits of paper stuck in the rotor. Nothing that would make me think they could be causing breakdown. I was skeptical about this video, but got tweezers and spent 10 minutes picking out paper fluff. Guess what? My shredder works. So laugh at video or me, but sometimes we need reminding solutions are often simple.

I threw out 2 shredders that had the same problem, the motor runs but didn't shred. I was just about to give up and got lucky. I inserted 4 sheets, together with just a little push. It Worked.
it overheats. all taking it apart does is let it cool down. at first, I thought the white plastic that turns it on was getting knocked out of place but the last time mine stopped ,I know 110% that it was still in place. I took it apart anyway and the motor was super hot. I didn't do anything except put it back together and it worked like a charm. it stops when it gets hot. taking it apart cools it down faster but you can just leave it alone and it will start again

Taking them apart is a real hassle, even when you take out the screws,inside is glued shut.It's usually the switch that's jammed.

Thank you for video on How To Clear a Paper Jam. I wish this video was really about fixing it. I have no idea what type of screw driver I need to open it. The motor does not run. The screws are deep into the unit. Does anyone know?
Yeah your title is accurate; his instructions are to clear a jam but bless his heart anyway. Mine is broken and I refuse to purchase a new one. Please let me know if you found a solution:)

When i see a video about fixing paper shredders, i expected a video disassembling it and replacing burned out motors or something..
NICE.WAS GONA BUY NEW 1.cleaned paper out with pliers & Small flat head 4 eye glasses 20 min later works like new again
My Fellowes shredder has a little black switch on the left side of the top. Picking up the top to clean out the shredder, I accidentally pushed that switch, turning it off. No auto function, no reverse, no motor sound at all. Hm. I spent some time with the top, turning it upside down, clearing paper, then happened to catch sight of that near-invisible switch as I set the top back. (The on/off switch label was on the opposite side of the top. A totally non-obvious place to locate the label.)
I'm glad this video is here, but I have two wishes: Move along a little faster with the explanations, and mention the presence of an on-off switch -- which might be nearly invisible esp. if it's black on black!
We have (had) that exact shredder and its junk. Instead of having an infrared beam sensor that triggers the shredder to turn on, this one has a physical switch that must be pushed by the paper or credit card that you are feeding in.
NEVER BUY A SHREDDER WITH A PHYSICAL SWITCH.
If you get a jam in the shredder under where the switch is placed (in our case a credit card) when you hit the reverse switch to clear the jam, the remains of the card are forced BACKWARDS against the flimsy switch and snaps it off.
This shredders packaging claimed it could shred credit cards, but that was what wrecked ours.
Buy a shredser with a sensor instead.
Great video I actually had to hit the motor lightly with a hammer a couple of times and it started working again

@D313370r hmmm well i think thats why its computer basics but you know you still are right this is common sense, my shredder was jammed to the point where i couldnt get it unjammed and i wanted to see if there was a way to get the papers out by taking off a cover or something. but this was just stupid lol...
My shredder runs CONSTANTLY in the auto mode. Is there a sensor somewhere that I can clean off ? Where the hell is it located ?

my shredder will not work unless it is seated on the paper bin. There is a small switch, on the side, that is activated when the top is correctly in position. Mine will not work otherwise...so don't assume yours is a goner..run it when it is on the paper bin.

The shredded paper collection part you can put in the recycling bin or use it to keep bits and pieces in or as a bin for the bathroom. Modern appliances are not built to last sadly.

Jeohn Rebosura There are two hidden switches on most machines. One is underneath the head/shredder block, the second, which is the one you may be having problems with is in the middle of where the paper goes. You have to have your block on the waste collector whilst working, otherwise the switch is not activated. When you reverse the machine, a lot of paper goes backwards and into the main feed, and actually can block the switch which makes it work. You need to clean all the paper from the inlet, make sure the machine is unplugged before you do this. When you have cleaned all of it, you should see a little plastic arm, which is the switch. What goes wrong is the arm does not become activated ( which means it is not pressurized by the paper) when you try to feed the paper in, as the blockage prevents this. Once it is clear, try to feed some paper in making sure it is central, not to one side of the shredder. If it still does not work, activate the switch with something small, I used a paper knife, it must be plugged in, but make sure you only touch the switch, and not the cutters, this should not be a problem. If it works on activation of the switch, try again with paper.

Dang... you got a point there.
The paper was so thick and so jammed that a tweezer would have been ineffective. I used princer pliers with a long stem. At first it tore the paper that was visible. Then I lodged the pliers in further, and lo and behold, a chunk of paper was raised. And with more careful pulling, the rest was dislodged. Just don't grab the edges and pull, or the paper will tear. And then you have nothing to pull, right? Now I have to retry the machine with the hope that the motor hasn't been destroyed. Get back to you later.
