      As it happens, Adam Smith made a similar point in The Wealth of Nations to explain how the division of labor increases productivity. The quote is something about how your heart isn't into it when you start a task so you keep wasting time when you move between tasks.

    Pastry chef here :)
    If you over mix/whip your cream and it’s too stiff or clumpy, add a little bit of un-whipped cream and mix it in.
    It will take it back a step and deflate some of the air you whipped in :D
    I also have to give credit where it’s due: I’ve never thought of using cream AND a bit of water to substitute for milk. I’ve always just used cream. Very resourceful :)

    • @chromeaces
      @chromeaces 5 місяців тому +8

      I think the milk and water combo is pretty common for households that don’t normally have cream on hand. In S.Korea, cream is some times substituted with boiled down milk and water to make quick homemade dishes like cream pasta. Not exactly the same but good enough!

    • @lainiwakura1776
      @lainiwakura1776 5 місяців тому +2

      @@chromeaces It's cream and water, since water will dilute the cream enough to a milk like texture.

      @@fishycreationsit’s just not the correct texture when it’s over whipped. instead of a smooth fluffy whipped cream, it turns a bit clumpy and too thick. the flavor is same but it’s just a texture/technical error. hope this helps :)

    We usually cut the skin (we call it the rind) off of bacon before cooking. It's too tough to eat. It has almost always been removed from packaged sliced bacon but not from the big pieces that we get from the butcher shop. You can simmer the rinds in stock or sauce for added flavor. Just remember to remove them before serving.

    • @lepidoptera7856
      @lepidoptera7856 5 місяців тому +38

      I was hoping someone would know! I was curious about this myself, I’ve never bought butcher shop bacon before. Good tip about making a stock from the rind!

    • @mustwereallydothis
      @mustwereallydothis 5 місяців тому +13

      @stephaniefagan1736 That's likely why it's left on in the first place. Of course, if you're just frying the bacon, it's best to remove it before cooking and save it for another use. If it's boiled until tender and then deep-fried, it puffs up and becomes a crispy and tasty snack.

      Quoting Alton Brown:
      “Shallots are like… well imagine if an onion and a head of garlic got together, got married and had a kid.”
      They grow in cloves like garlic but each clove is made from rings like an onion. And, quote again, “They won’t play havoc with your breath.”

That part of your video content will always have a special place in my heart. That said, I am already fond of this new video style! I like seeing the start to finish process and how you choose the ingredients and what your local market looks like. I didn't realize that you could make sweetened red bean paste with red kidney beans! (I adore dorayaki and usually have bought it because while I know how to make the pancakes, the only recipes for red bean paste I ever found wanted beans that I cannot get here.) So thank you for that! I will add that into my recipe file and probably make dorayaki soon.
    I also wanted to say thank you for including your family conversations. I'm slowly learning Japanese and hearing your conversations helps so much! You don't speak as quickly as some of the UA-cam channels I follow and while I still do not understand everything, I hear more and more words that I know and hearing them in conversation helps me to know them better. (Today is one of those days that I worry I will never learn enough Japanese to hold more than a very basic, baby-talk type of conversation. But I persevere because I am stubborn.) 😁

    Bacon rind is tough but chewy and edible. Some people like it but it's fallen out of favor in the states, so most bacon comes rind free now. You can probably ask the store to cut it off for you next time if you don't like it or you can cut it off before you cook and then save it to use it in stocks as well. There's also a snack that consists of frying rinds till they're light and crispy (not healthy but delicious) that's popular in some southern states.

    I love your videos so much. I always watch on my TV, and I never comment on any videos. I had to get my phone out and log in to reach out. You are beautiful!!!!!
    I love that you are showing your faces. The camera angle at peeling lotus root was so nicely framed.
    You have taught me so well, through your relaxing videos. I buy powder miso seasoning now and add it to so much. I also make better rice and fried rice. I was brave and made my first croquettes last week.
    Thank you. For changing my life.

    Your channel is something my family and I watch, I’ve probably watched each of your videos at least 2 times 😅. Thank you for your content, it helps give us inspiration to cook and it’s very soothing to watch. There is something about how you film and talk to your audience which is very restorative, thank you Imamu ❤.
    I’ve even started cooking dishes inspired by yours!
