    I just bought this system. You just saved me a lot of money. I've been shopping around for nutrients which are really expensive. I was looking at floragrow but didn't understand why I needed to spend so much money for "bloom" when I just want to grow basil. Your tip about the nutrients and how much to use-- perfect! I'm so excited to get my first system 😁

      I bought the same system as well. My thought was to start seedlings indoors for my outdoor garden. Does that make sense or are plants intended to mature to harvest in these systems? Do the roots come out of the net pots easily or do they break if removed?

    Nice set up! I usually try to get all the dirt off the roots since it can contain bugs and/or bug eggs. I've had whole grows ruined by bugs that probably came from the dirt that I didn't wash off.

    It's a good idea to check your PPM before adding nutrients. Then subtract that number from the post nutrient reading.

      I am a newbie to hydroponics and just bought some supplies locally yesterday. I have my seeds in some rockwool right now and praying that they germinate. Been planting soil-based veggies for years but I'm hoping hydroponics keeps away a lot of the soil-based pests...like tomato hornworms! Yuck!
      Also, do you have suggestions for supporting the bush portion of hydroponic tomatoes? I've seen twine anchored to ceilings but I'll be putting my tub outdoors here in South Louisiana.
      Thanks for making this video!

      "quite a nice setup for the price" and don't forget about the 300 Watt lamp which will give him huge bills for his hobby. 07:17 and if you buy an energy efficient lamp, the lamp itself will cost more than the money you saved on electricity. Right?

    A few comments or questions.
    1 the rockwool, what is made of? Some toxic material that gets absorbed by the plants, then by the consumer?
    2 the ingredients in fertiliser? Any toxic?
    3 the plastic containers, pba and pbs free?

    Thank you! I really enjoyed this. Where would one find a reliable guide for how much fertilizer to use for different types of plants? Or is that more about the size of the container? Also, do you ever need to change out the water? Is there ever an issue with mold growing inside the root area? One more thing..in case of a power outage, how long will the plants be ok? Is it best to keep regular soil available to transplant in to in case of emergency, or is there a simpler solution? Thanks so much! I hope you can help mme out. There is so much info to wade through on the internet and no clear-cut answers half the time. I really appreciated your simple & clear instrictions!

      I have charts on my website: www.tomorrowsgarden.net/node/11
      I have had plants droop after 2 days without power but they spring back. If the water is low enough they'll be fine like the Kratky method. No mold in the root area but I did get algae with this container since light got through.Change the water every 3 weeks or so.

    • @analeigholdeworlde4178
      @analeigholdeworlde4178 6 років тому +1

      Thanks so much for that quick reply! I will check out the link for sure. Should a person paint the container black or line or with something black to inhibit algea growth, or just change it out more often? This is the most affordable,almost complete system I have seen so far. I may be able to afford one finally, when I can also get a l light too. I appreciate all of your reviews on those. I like ther price and look of the kingbo 45 watt thin panel you reviewed. I am forever spending time drooling over the Aerogarden website, wondering what shoes I can sell to buy a system. :D

      @@SleestaksRule isn't it also good to flush the plants before harvesting? Like 2 weeks before you harvest so all the chemicals and shit are flushed out of the plant before eating? I remember doing this to my cannabis plants, so wouldn't the flush also be nice for regular veggies?

    I love the idea of this unit, shame can't find in Europe. When grown, do you keep there or transplant into a bigger holed unit, or soil? I saw the same company, on Amazon sells a ''smart unit, with 18 holes' and led lights (but strange as on one photo looks like two large pots of basil in soil!) looks like an aerogrow style unit, have you tested that? And have you tested the aerogrow? Also do you have video for your homemade unit? I appreciate lots of questions, and off subject as well

    • @SleestaksRule

      The smart unit one will be here this week to try out. They just added that and the 4 hole one over the weekend. I don't know what the smart one is until it gets here. The other unit which I reviewed here is growing out of control and flowering. It does smell so good though. I'll take a photo today and post to Amazon. I got an Aerogarden in 2006 and showed it on and off in a few videos but it is not the same as they sell now. I did make a video years ago on how to build a unit but not a big unit, just a small one for herbs. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/FxVHS9o5yDA/v-deo.html

      There are other companies selling them just with a different name on Amazon. Just search "hydroponic system".

    Hi just got one of these your video helps when you put the Nutrients in when do you change the nutrients and is it the same strength

      I use the same strength throughout for basil. It's not a picky plant. The plants are doing extremely well and I just filmed that video last Sunday morning. I will do a follow up video at the 30 day mark. Oh, one thing I noticed is a bit of algae growth on the top of the sponges but that's fine.

    If you drill a few holes in the upper side of container, you won't need an airpump

    Are the energy costs worth growing hydroponically?

      Just do krakty hydroponics and use gravity (no electronics) and sunlight and it's worth it.

      I have transferred to soil before and it works fine. I'm sure you can grow a cutting like a tomato plant in it.

    I'm new to this but could you grow strawberries in a 1 inch net pot or just herbs?

    • @SleestaksRule
      @SleestaksRule  7 років тому

      I guess you could but it might be hard to get them going with long existing roots. It'd be hard to get the roots through the net pot.

    Can this be used for one single cherry tomato plant? I started the seeds on my aerogarden but that will overcrowd it soon so thinking of buying a few of these and putting one tomato plant in each and cussing up the remainder of the holes.

    • @SleestaksRule
      @SleestaksRule  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, If you can grow it in the aerogarden it will work in this. I've don't tomatoes too in the aerogarden in one of my older videos.

      The little white bucket just had clear plastic wrap, the walls have reflective mylar (Christmas wrapping paper) to reflect light.

      @@SleestaksRule thank you. Is it a must to put mylar around the plants? Will they still grow without it?

      @@TheCarmlsista No but it helps when using grow lights. You can also use the mylar emergency blankets in the camping section at Walmart. They are huge and about $1.
