Egypt will not (and should not) normalize trade with Gaza beyond the inspections at their checkpoint. Egypt already had a terrorist smuggling problem and hast thousands of troops there to interdicts Hamas smuggling and affiliated terrorist cells.
Egypt has self-preservation instincts almost as strong as Israel's when it comes to dealing with the Muslim Brotherhood (of which Hamas is a branch).

Someone needs to make this a personal issue: if you're having a house party, and you or someone in your family is special forces, but someone comes into your house and starts killing some of the people in your house whether it be family and or friends, what do you do? Do you sit down and talk to somebody about it? Or do you get up and fight back quickly and responsibly because sitting down and talking about it just means I'm opening myself up to be hurt more, or laying down my arms means I give up. A quick search shows New York City has 10. No doubt the special protections afforded hospitals under the Geneva Convention and other international laws has something to do with the abundance of them in the Gaza Strip.
And yet my understanding is many from Gaza use Israeli hospitals for medical treatment. Hamas uses money meant for Palestinians to further its hate machine. Tunnels/bunkers under hospitals.
