We tend to over complicate things because of our fear of Yah. He did not intend for The Sabbath to be burdensome, which would be detrimental to our rest by causing stress. If you rightly divide the word you will understand the point and correction He made to the Pharisees in Mark 2:23-26 and verse 27 confirms it.
" And He said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.

Thank you for this teaching. Recently I have been praying for further discernment on this subject. Since starting to come to a Torah Observant lifestyle, I have always interpreted this command as the Father telling us to take a break from the work that we do to make a living and earn money. I still cook for my family on the Sabbath and still do light cleaning as well. You can’t possibly not clean with young boys around who like to make messes. I also have a Glock of quail that I have to feed and water, which some people would call work. During the week, we are quite busy running our business and don’t have the time to cook homestyle meals for us all to sit down and enjoy together. Shabbat offers us that opportunity. I interpret the Father’s message as to not do things to earn money. Any further than that seems to be encroaching onto the spirit of legalism that possessed the Pharisees. Yeshua taught us that doing good for others on the Sabbath is lawful and I hold fast to that message.

But were they not traveling and packing up and moving around quite often? maybe that instruction pertaining to the Sabbath was specifically to them based on their circumstances.
Sort of like the rush during the Great Exodus kill and eat and not even let your bread leaven because of time constraints.

I love Shabbat and look forward to it every week. I also enjoy preparing everything on Friday, as much as possible, so Shabbat is free for Yah and rest. I raise animals, goats and ducks, so they still need to be fed and watered; but i dont milk or collect eggs. I eat cold food that I prepare on friday but do heat up the coffee i make ahead of time. To me Shabbat is the greatest gift Yah has given us, after His Son.

“And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually. In the tabernacle of meeting, outside the veil which is before the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening until morning before the Lord . It shall be a statute forever to their generations on behalf of the children of Israel.
    Exodus 27:20‭-‬21

I have been struggling lately with this subject. Now it makes sense. God always knew that believers would be found in colder to severly colder climates. He wouldn't want them to freeze to death. Israel is in a warmer climate barely ever dropping below 30 degrees. In Israel's climate, fire would be used mainly for work not for warmth. It's so simple. Thank you for clearing this up.

This part really stuck with me, I will be meditating and praying about it:
"We are to rest, not work. That is for OUR benefit. We are to not work or force anyone else to work nor consume ourselves with preparing or thinking about work on a set apart, or holy day. Why would we want to work when He says to rest?
We might just find that focusing on God [YaHUaH], the Word, instead of traditions of men, or things of the world, just happens to resonate well with our spirit.
If something about ignoring the daily burdens of the world and entering into the weekly freedom of spending time with God and His family, on the sabbath, is frightening and a burden to us, then we have much more complex issues to address rather than the simple matters of obedience. Resting and spending time with Yaweh and is his family is a blessing, not a burden, it shows our love for Him."
    1 John chapter 5 verses 2-3
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
    I John 5:2‭-‬3 NKJV

@@119Ministries I have praised many of your teachings to my family to be in line with scripture. And pray you may continue to keep up the good work. But in saying that, I have to comment on this particular video regarding no fire on the Sabbath. I understand your point that the context of having no fire may relate to work only. But based on precepts of scriptures and the literal reading of the texts, I beg to differ. I believe as the text is written, so it shall be carried out. "You shall Kindle NO FIRE THROUGHOUT YOUR DWELLINGS on the Sabbath day." This should not be done for work, heating or food. As the word "throughout your dwellings" would imply. The precept of Exodus 16:23 backs this understanding.
"This is that which YAHUAH has said: TOMORROW is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto YAHUAH: BAKE that which Ye will bake TODAY: and seethe (boil) that ye will seethe;... " Isn't this instructions for the avoidance of making a fire, EVEN to prepare food on the Sabbath? Beside leaving his dwelling to gather Wood, wasn't it for his intention to Kindle Fire in the camp of the Israelites, why the man in Numbers 15:32-35 was stoned? For weather to cook food, heating or work? You made reference to be unable to light a candle in those days if the text was literal. But there will be no need for the flame of a candle if you keep the Sabbath at DAY as instructed. And not at night/Darkness. Therefore God's word is warranted to keep fire for any purpose out of your Dwellings. With the Technology of electricity, this is very easy for us to do today. Which would allow all previous day cooking to be able to be warmed up without the use of gas cookers. Likewise, gas heating systems would be replaced by electric ones on the DAY, depending on the climate.
With this understanding, I believe I have tested this teaching you have given.
      Let me know your thoughts.
      Shalom.

Our pastor won't allow anyone to make coffee or use a microwave and no slow cookers before or after Sabbath service although he has the lights on and heat on in the winter, A/C in the summer and he drives his car to and from church. The engine in a car has 4 or 6 cylinders all of which have a fire in them when the engine is running.

I am having a shift in the way I think of this verse. But I do have a question. If the the kindling of fire is actually about work and not fire, and the people understood that connection, then why would the command to not kindle a fire need to be said if they rightly understood the command to not work? Would they not have assumed they could not kindle a fire to work?

This video needs a correction. The command doesn’t apply to already lit fires. They absolutely had and have fires in the home, but they kindle them before sunset because it is work to kindle it. They also light candles for Shabbat before sunset as well. When a lighter goes out or a wick doesn’t want to light or the paper/wood doesn’t light easily, it is work, which is why it’s done before sunset.

Heres an important question: i dont believe in dispensationalism but could it be the case the fire thing was commanded to them only at that time. Because the command in the Ten commandnents says remember the sabbath and keep it Holy. Obviously whole cultures and regions of northern people heat their dwellings with wood stoves in the winter. Obviously Yah would not suggest they freeze one day a weel

So, using mechanical switches that control high voltages is not allowed because of the spark that it generates when the switch is actuated? That's definitely extreme. The spark is caused by the very brief period that the metal contacts within the switch are very close to each other, but not touching. This is inevitable regardless of how quickly the switch is closed. The longer the spark is maintained, the more it damages the switch (it can actually melt the contacts shut, making it impossible to turn it off). This can also start a fire. The spark itself is *NOT* a fire (it's plasma), but can result in a fire.

Since posting my comment over three years ago, and more intense study into the Hebrew words, I have a new understanding of the idea of kindling a fire. First, context matters. This command was part of the command to avoid any work on the sabbath. Because fire was used for many occupations, the prohibition of building a fire in their dwellings was probably to keep people from doing work that required a fire. Interestingly, the Syriac equivalent of the Hebrew word baar also has the idea of gathering or gleaning. This makes sense why the man who was gathering sticks in Numbers on Shabbat was stoned. It would have required work to go out and gather and chop firewood. Yah wanted his people to have a day of rest. That being said, and now understanding that the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath (Yeshua’s words), I believe it was permissible to have fire to keep warm, and to light one’s home. But the firewood should be gathered and stacked the day before Shabbat so as to avoid the hard work of going out to find and chop the wood. (The gathering of the manna the day before is somewhat related). I’m thankful to all the brethren who commented on my post, and who inspired me to re-examine my position.

It says to not "KINDLE" a fire, which means to light a fire, not to gather sticks make a pile of sticks and then light it! there was nothing wrong with having all this done before the Sabbath! your sticks and wood already collected and your fire already lit is no problem at all.

The LionofJudah77U I’m not trying to obey the law for salvation, I want to honor my savior the best way I can. Things just keep getting blurrier in that regard. Somehow now people say that the sabbath begins in the morning not in the evening. Everywhere I looked in bible, it always states it begins in the evening. I was beginning to believe that the text in mine was different than other peoples. The once saved always saved gets me as well, and the sinners prayer. Yet revelation 3 even mentions being blotted from the book of life.

Well actually they all are but it seems like we can cook food anyway love you guys very much thanks. It’s just I prepare for Shabbat get everything I need so I rest and so I don’t shop or anything on Shabbat I’ve never thought as cooking a everyday thing since well I don’t. I only cook when I run out of food. And it’s my opinion that it’s not against the day of rest to cook what we need to eat. Just my opinion. This not to argue cause I believe the same as you just an observation.

This is what the preparation day is for, to prepare our meals and other needs for the Shabbath day. Cook the day prior to, and then store it to be quickly re-heated for consumption on the Shabbath day as opposed to laboring over the meal that actual day. This can be a very good example for the use of a microwave and a quick 1-3 minute re-heating of the food which was prepared the previous day. The alternative is to simply use foods that require no cooking at all, such as tuna fish sandwiches, and so on.

In the O.T. most things were meant in a literal way but in the N.T. they are interpreted in a spiritual way. Do not lite a fire on the Sabbath day, could apply this way in the N.T.,
    James 3:5
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
    James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
    "Proverbs 26:20

Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
    Proverbs 26:21
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

With due respect to 119 ministries teaching but I think kindling fire on Sabbath is associated with Jeremiah 7:17-19. It's worshiping falls gods and Isaiah 44 also you can read. The meaning of the word WORK in Hebrew means malekha and it is related to business or occupation as seen in Jeremiah 17. I also wonder how people in the time of Christ or prior to that would prepare food one day before and keep it over night because at that time there were no refrigerators or ovens . Kindling of fire was an Egyptian pratice of worshipping false gods.

The fire in your dwellings mentioned in Deuteronomy 35 refers to blacksmithing fires related to making the utensils, furniture, and artifacts for the Tabernacle. God reminded them of the Sabbath because they were to rest, even from doing the work of building the tabernacle on the Sabbath. God was not depriving them of heating their homes or even cooking fires. Cooking food is not daily occupational work.

To say the command doesnt have the implication of being contentious simultaneously with not kindling a fire for work is not truly honest. Paul gives an example about the command to not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain. It has a literal and symbolic understanding ie the Priests ate sacrifices, show bread, and partook a portion of the tithe because they tread out the grain (Word of יהוה). The same can be implied to this command. Paul explicity warns of contention amongst the brethren. Did he just make this up? Absolutely not! This rendering of Yeshayahu 58:13 from the LXX gives a good understanding of Yah's requirements on His Shabbats. Good teaching by the way. Not trying to discredit the teaching, just that there is more to it. Remember, Yah "kindled fires" against Yisra’ĕl in His anger against their rebellion towards Him. The Apostles and Messiah יהושע were teaching Truth, and the others who opposed their teachings were the contentious ones. Proclaiming the Gospel and the Truth was ordained by יהוה Himself through His Son Messiah יהושע. It was prophecied Messiah would be a stone of stumbling even to Mary His mother. This is the Word of יהוה cutting as a double edged sword. Because the worshippers of יהוה must worship in Spirit and in Truth! Shalom!
Isa 58:13 LXX If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, so as not to do your pleasure on the holy days, and shall call the sabbaths delightful, holy to God; if you shall not lift up your foot to work, nor speak a word in anger out of your mouth,

We used to be Christians/ Catholic/ Non Denomination pagans , but have become Hebrews by our submission, leaving pagan traditions and man-made religion to obey YAH’WEH the one true Abba of Avraham, Yitschaq & Ya’aqov.
Grafted into the common wealth of Yashar’el through His Son, YAHSHUA Ha Mashiach. We call ourselves disciples of, talmidim of or priests of YAHSHUA ha'Mashiach. Yet, more specifically we call ourselves "Brit-Torah-Observant Believers" or "Hebrews who believe in YAHSHUA the Messiah."
I believe in one true everlasting creator of all , I believe in the son “YAHSHUA” who represents the creator “YAH’WEH” of ALL for the salvation of human kind. I believe in the spirit of YAHSHUA which is the everlasting word and source of the ABBA YAH’WEH.
I believe in the Ten Commandments and mitzvah of Law given by YAH’WEH written, proclaimed and given to Mosheh for Yashar’el to abide.
I believe I’m proclaiming his name to the masses and praising YAH’WEH in the ruach of YAHSHUA
I believe in keeping the Shabbats.
The day of rest that was given by YAH’WEH law and written word .
I believe a man shall lead his generations to know the truth and true word of YAH’WEH by way of YAHSHUA.
I believe in healing all in the true name of YAH’WEH and by the living embodiment of the word and in the Ruach of YAHSHUA Ha Mashiach.
All who renounce false praise and worship and free themselves from bondage of man made religion and the ways of the evil one. All who REPENT and PROCLAIM “YAH’WEH” his true name shall receive and be lead into the true word . All who submit to belief in blind faith, shall be healed, saved and lead into true Salvation in the return of New Jerusalem.

I looked at this verse also in Exodus 35:3 in respect to Leviticus chapter 6 work that must take place at the tabernacle in regards to kindling a fire 🔥.
    According to the Hebrew grammar
    In Exodus 35:3
3 You shall kindle no fire in all your dwelling places on the Sabbath day.”
    (KINDLE)
    Hebrew Verb: ba`ar
    Stem: Piel
    Aspect: Imperfect
1.) Piel usually expresses an "intensive" or "intentional" action.
2.) The imperfect expresses an action, process or condition which is incomplete.
Also look at Leviticus chapter 6:8-13
    Keep verse verse 13
8 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
9 Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering: It is the burnt offering, because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it.
10 And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar.
11And he shall put off his garments, and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place.
12 And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.
13 The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.
So Exodus 35:3 could interpret this way. Don't not Kindle a fire in your dwellings at the tabernacle because the fire must always 🔥 remain rburning intensely because the offerings of worship and service must remain burning continually at at my alter.
I heard someone teach it that way also in Exodus 35:3.

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
The Hebrew word that is used in Isaiah 40:22 (חוּג, chug) does not at all imply a spherical earth.
The root word only occurs in the Hebrew Bible once as a verb (Job 26:10).
In nominal forms, the same root occurs four times, three as the noun חוּג (chug; Job 22:14 not; and he walketh *in the circuit* of heaven, Prov 8:27 I [was] there: when he set *a compass* upon the face, Isa 40:22 [It is] he that sitteth *upon the circle* of the earth), and once as the noun מְחוּגׇה (mechugah; Isa 44:13).
This term refers to a "circle instrument," a device used to make a circle, what we call a compass.
So, the "circle" of Isaiah 40:22 refers to the horizon of the earth, which is very obviously perceived as a circle since it can be seen in 360º from most anywhere on earth.
      Genesis 1 : 6-8
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
The word firmament is used to translate rāqîa’ (רָקִ֫יעַ‎) in Biblical Hebrew. It is derived from the root raqa (רָקַע), meaning “to beat or spread out”, e.g., the process of making a dish by hammering thin a lump of metal.
“And God said, Let there be a firmament (raqia) in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” - Genesis 1:6

7:11 I disagree with this. The Hebrew word used for "Dwelling" in Exodus 35:3 is "מושב," which means a place where people are gathered together, assemblied, dwelling in, or habitating. In other words, it's just an area where someone is staying for a period of time. If you're out in nature and resting in one spot on the Sabbath, that is your dwelling.
Also, the Torah isn't saying that the fire is the incentive for work, but it is suggesting that making the fire is work by nature, and so would gathering firewood; that is why the man in the wilderness was stoned, since he didn't actually start a fire on the Sabbath so the crime was gathering wood which was seen as work. In other words, was he really killed as a punishment for preparing to possibly be preparing for work on the Sabbath, or was he punished for working on the Sabbath and breaking a command?
As for electricity, it is often prohibited because it completes circuits and since many Jews believe that all creative work is probited - including building things - the completion of a circuit counts as building. This is silly because, by that logic, closing a door is completing a wall and should be prohibited on the Sabbath. Other suggestions do mention the making of sparks (which isn't fire) or the idea that lightbulbs are fire because they produce heat and light (which is just wrong); in that regard, using lightbulbs is fine in my opinion, but combustion-engine cars are not. That does lead to the question of if driving itself is just as labourous as collecting firewood lol 🤔

Of course Yah would be able to keep them warm in their tents without them having to continuously tend to or stoke a fire on Shabbat. Also the manna and the Shabbat meal were prepared and cooked the day before Shabbat, so no need for a fire. Sorry, I will follow Yah’s instructions rather than yours.

In today's time, it is as simple as pushing a button or flipping a switch and such things. Here is yet something else to consider, in that there is the burning of incense or such things as a burnt sacrifice of a sweet smell to Abba., or the lighting of the minorah, and the only thing I can think of in such manners is that there was already a fire burning, and from that was used to light the sweet smell and minorah?

Sorry, I don’t think this is right. Have you considered that fire is a source of light and and that in Sabbath He is to be our only source of light? You “create” a fire, and God rested from his creation work on the seventh day. The Sabbath itself is a shadow of heaven, as everything on it is. Yahuwah did not create commandments that were to be for a certain time only as He knows all times. I think the commandment is clear and there is no interpretation possible, just obedience. On the other hand, I do agree that not using switches or not drinking hot coffee is extreme. I think electricity may not fall into the same category, and that that is extreme and burdensome.

    • @barbaramariemua
      @barbaramariemua 3 роки тому

I think that is the point if we can be obedient enough even when its burdensome. I do think although since we are saved by grace either way its best to follow the laws and commandments as best we can without getting super legalistic or stressed out.

My problem is not with the "day of rest"; my problem is with the PUNISHMENT of DEATH by stoning for those who "work" on the sabbath.
Are there still some people who take these passages LITERALLY and believe such "laws" to be given by a LOVING God?

    • @TheShalomstead
      @TheShalomstead 3 роки тому +3

Our death sentence has been paid for by the blood of the Messiah. The death penalty doesn’t literally apply any longer. The punishment is of a spiritual nature at this point in time. I for one believe that if we lived in a fully Torah Observant society, including the death penalties, we would live in a much better place. Despite the fact that I should have been put to death several times over, if I had seen those committing deadly sins been killed, I might not have committed them in the first place! Praise the Father for sending us the Lamb to provide forgiveness for our lawlessness and rebellion and offering us Salvation!

Hello @@TheShalomstead and thank you for your valuable reply.
You know, I think you might have something there; barbaric methods are probably the best methods to deal with primitive and predatory barbarians, and more civilized methods to deal with more civilized creatures. I suppose that for those who completely abide by God's law out of complete understanding and appreciation for them, no "punishment" is necessary.
Judging by the present state of the "world", I wonder if it is at all possible for so called "human kind" (as species) to reach even the level of "civility", leave alone the levels where there is no need for "rewards and punishments". It appears that, generally speaking, we are becoming more barbaric every day. No wonder Jesus said that He was sent only to the "lost sheep of Israel" (Mathew 15:24, and 10:6), and not to throw pearls "before swine" (Mathew 7:6).
Please note that I do not EQUATE the JEWS with ISRAELITES. Although there might be a handful of Israelites among Jews, not all Jews are necessarily Israelites. Nor do I consider all those who reside in the country of Israel to be Israelites. Israelite (as I understand it) is anybody who "wrestles with God and men (spiritually) and "prevails with God", meaning any person who wants to understand, dedicates his life to the pursuit of God's TRUTH, and finally is TRANSFORMED into a brand new being spiritually and physically. The truth is that MOST of the "human beings" could not care less about the TRUTH; most care only about what is FUN and PLEASURABLE.
