Excluded From the Assembly? (Deuteronomy 23:1-8) - 119 Ministries

  • Several groups of people are said to be excluded from the “assembly of YHWH”, and this leaves us with some questions. How can a loving Creator exclude anyone? Who all is included in this “assembly”? How can they be excluded in one verse but permitted in another?

"For your thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares YHWH." - Isaiah 55:8. It's absolutely amazing to realize how YHWH has transformed the lives of many people over the centuries, who are seemingly ordinary, insignificant, of questionable moral fiber, or even social outcasts; reshaping them to be God fearing, extraordinary, vital, included....included as a part of His assembly. Certain aspects of the backgrounds for both Ruth and Rahab would have ordinarily excluded them from YHWH's assembly. But because of their extraordinary faith and loyalty, Almighty YHWH transformed them to play significant roles in the lineage of our Messiah YAHUSHA. (What and honor!) These transformations bear witness to His supreme power, wisdom, and might! As YHWH continues to transform faithful ones, may these examples serve as encouragement to us all.

Perhaps those called 'foreign' in the context had not taken the same vow that Ruth took when she declared, 'your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.' She became part of Israel. If they had not, they would still be carriers of pagan faith and practice to some extent.

      @ Isaac Underhill,
Sorry to inform you but is incorrect. His entire understanding is based of Ezekiel 18:20 which he erroneously believes descendants cannot be penalized for the sins of their fathers. What he fails to realize is that Ezekiel 18:20 was written to and for Israelites. The scripture was not meant to be applied to other nations. Isaiah 14:21 speaks of Babylonian descendants who will be slaughtered for the sins of their forefathers.

@@attainingknowledgeoftruth8348 I used to have a hat that literally had the exact art of the Lion of Judah as your profile picture, from a company named OG or something...
Anyways, Topic at hand: You can interpret Isaiah 14:21 in the light of Ezekiel 18:20, that children must have continued in the same sins as their fathers, or been too young to know or choose otherwise. Either way, they still clearly belonged to the Nation of Babylon. That is who they Identified with, and thus were judged according to the judgement of Babylon. There are even more scriptures where YHWH Speaks of how the descendants of the wicked are to be crushed and pregnant women slashed open. (Hosea 13:16) When one comes to Faith in Israel's GOD and holds the Faith of Abraham and belief in the Messiah, one is joined to the remnant of believing Israel by faith (and works obviously). YHWH is a Just judge and Rules in righteousness, individual sins and corporate sins both have a part to play in thier own light.

      Isaac Underhill,
119 keeps deleting my comment. There are two nations that received final judgment from the Most High. One is Babylon and the other starts with the letter E which the book Obadiah discusses that nations judgement. Can you give an example in the Bible where people from either of those two nations came into the fold of Gods people?

Ok thanks for the clarification. My comments contained assessments of the Bible and didn’t contain anything rude or obscene but they were deleted. Maybe you guys can provide some clarification for me and Isaac. We do have an example with Ruth the Moabite. However Babylon and the nation beginning with letter E received final judgements by the Most High and I believe their judgements are final throughout their lineage. Do you know of any instances in the Bible where anyone from either of those nations came under full submission to the God of Israel thus being allowed to become apart of Gods people?

It is not unlikely that Ruth is 11th generation from Lot's son Moab (generation 1) because Boaz is 10th generation from Abraham's son Isaac (generation 1). If we parallel the 2 lineages, Moab's side might have produced offspring earlier than Isaac's side. Isaac himself had Esau and Jacob when he was already 60 years old (Genesis 25:26) and by then, it is not impossible that Moab already had his grandchildren.
So I believe that God literally means until the 10th generation and not "forever = eternity" and that Ruth is qualified to change citizenship to Israelite by her freewill choice because she's beyond 10th gen Moabite/ss.

This excerpt from Apologetics Press (December 2018) adds some insight: "Joseph’s Egyptian wife did not make their sons Ephraim and Manasseh Egyptians (Genesis 41:50-52). Moses’ marriage to Zipporah, a Midianite (Exodus 2:11-25), did not disqualify their sons Gershom and Eliezer from being Israelites (Exodus 2:22; 18:1-4), nor did it make them Midianites. Salmon’s marriage to Rahab (the Jerichoan harlot) did not mean their son Boaz was a recognized Gentile of Jericho (Matthew 1:5). And the Moabitess Ruth, wife of Boaz, did not make their son Obed, their grandson Jesse, their great-grandson David, or their descendants Joseph and Mary (the earthly parents of Jesus) anything other than legitimate descendants of Abraham (Matthew 1:1-17; Luke 3:23-38)-according to the standard reckoning of Israelite heritage. In the eyes of all of Israel, David was an Israelite of the tribe of Judah-and was no more a Moabite than he was a Jerichoan."

Was Ruth a moabite or was she just from moab? As I'm pretty sure the moabites in the area she came from were wiped out by Israel. And taking into account the moabites were conceived through incest, this seems highly unlikely. Especially since The Messiah came through her lineage.

Deut 23:1 is clear. If you cut off your "members" to take part in a religious ceremony, you will not enter the kingdom.
Just as Matt 19:12 is clear. He encourages you for religious reasons to cut off your members, "if you can bear it".
    He contradicts Torah.
Now, Isaiah prophesies in the age to come that those who become eunuchs outside of their own choice will be restored in the age to come.
If they keep the covenant, they will be given an eternal name and no longer be a dry tree. Yes this means in the age to come, eunuchs who guard Torah will be restored and able to bear children. (again contradicting the NT)

After the great flood, God made a blood covenant with Noah and his three sons and instructed them to be fruitful and multiply and to scatter the entire earth. One of the sons; Ham broke the blood covenant by doing a illegal and illicit act by sleeping with his own mother and as a result an offspring was brought forth. Ham's father Noah cursed Ham's son Canaan. Obviously genetics and reputation played a big role when it came to man representing the image of God.

And using that verse as an example is poor as it says that women should cover their head. This verse would be referring to a turban or cloth of some sort, the verse has very many different meanings and translations that have nothing to do with baseball caps especially being that a baseball cap was created in 1850 long after that verse was written. From my perspective it also doesn’t have to do with turbans but some would argue it very well does. There is no prohibition against polygamy in Scripture. That is a false teaching. There are only limitations on the type of polygamy. Leviticus 18:18 does *NOT* forbid polygamy as you falsely claim. I know your claim that "take a wife to her sister" is an idiom meaning "one to another." But whenever akhoth (Hebrew for sister) is used to refer to a female human being, it *always* refers to someone's sister or half sister, limiting the scope of the idiom in Leviticus 18:18 to mean a woman and *her sister.* David was *rebuked* whenever he broke God's Law (eg: the incident with Bathsheba, the incident with the Ark of the Covenant, and the unlawful census). But when it came to polygamy, God never rebuked David for taking multiple women as his wives, or warned him not to take on a second wife. If polygamy was contrary to God's Law, then God would have either warned David not to take on a second wife (David would have heeded that warning), or if God waited until after it was done, he would have *rebuked* David for it, warning him not to take any more wives.

anon freedom polygamy is completely prohibited by God and there’s no discussion about it, look in your Bible you’ll see. When the prophets had multiple wives (Salomon, Jacob,...) it is considered a sin, because yes prophets sinned ans it is « normal » because the only one who do not sin is Yeshoua. About Rachel i dont know if you red the entire story in the Bible but Israël only wanted to marry Rachel at the beginning, it’s only because of Laban’s vice that he had to marry Leah. He did not really chose her. And because of that many bad things happened, see the whole Joseph story by yourself.
