As the water temperature drops from mid 70's to 60 or 50 degrees, Crappie will begin to feed heavily by chasing baitfish in deep water. Trolling Micro Crankbaits in 15 to 20 feet of water is a great tactic to fill the livewell with crappie. These micro crankbaits imitate the baitfish like shad, shiners, and small bluegill that crappie are feeding on in September, October, and November.

Davis, why does your Livescope always have that funky flash on your videos? Have not noticed it on Livescope shots of other channels.
I think the other channels use a phone app that, along with the Garmin unit, transmits the signal to the phone where it is recorded directly. However, I do not believe that every Garmin that works with the LiveScope system has that capabilty. Not certain but that's what I have heard.
This is correct. The GPSMAP units garmin makes are able to record the livescope screen through the active captin app on your phone. The Echomap units you need to film with a phone or external camera. I use a gopro, and have quite figured out the settings on the shutter speed to eliminate that flash you see on the screen
So in fishing crank baits for crappie. Do you have better success with a more minnow like a rapala or more wobble like a wiggle wart.
From traveling to different states and watching other anglers, I've seen more angler use a wigglewart type of crankbait when trolling form crappie.

Davis, When during the year and under what conditions do you like to use crankbaits and why? I have not used them much and would like to add them to my arsenal. I know a lot of crappie anglers troll crankbaits during the sumer months when fishing can be scattered. I like to use this during the fall when large schools roam the hard to soft bottom lake transition

Davis, I set this rig up exactly like you did using a 1/4 oz. Bullet weight with a small crankbait, actually an Arkie, and it would not sink the crankbait. I pulled it even and it was not fouled, but would only go a few feet down. With the 4 foot leader the weight just sagged the leader when laying in the water with the crankbait laying just under water. Does yours sink the crankbait once thrown in the water? Would it be because the Arkie 2-5 foot is bigger than the Z-Cranker with more buoyancy? Thoughts? Thanks, and God Bless!
Yes, the z-cranker is a 1" crank so the 1/4 oz weight worked. You may need to use a heavier weight with the arkie

I am bouncing the bullet weight off the bottom, this let's me know roughly how far off the bottom my crankbait is

Great video...other crappie crank videos I have seen use 2 oz weight. 1/4 oz gets it down? What speed? Rod weight? Thanks
1/4oz will get this small crankbait to 20ft trolling between. 3-.5 mph . I used both the 8ft and 7'6" ACC Stix. They are medium to medium light action rods.
Try that at Joe Pool in Arlington Tx and it wont work.

We are updating our pan fishing rigs and were wondering if you could expand on your pole and reel combo? Thoughts on the 7'6" vs the 8' pole and what was the deciding factor on the reel? I've never heard of them, but they seem well made from their description.

Hi, I normally use the 7'6" for casting jigs/crankbaits . I use the 8ft for slip bobber fishing and vertical jigging.
Does the crank bait drag the bottom?
No, this is crankbait only dives about 1ft, and that is reeking it in at .8-1mph. Trolling these at .3-.5mph allows it to float a few feet off the bottom. A longer leader will help if you want to have crankbait suspended higher off the bottom.
what pound line you using for this?
I showed how to tie it up using 8lb mono. However earlier in September I use 10lb braid to the swivel and then 8pb fluorocarbon as the leader. Its definitely on the heavy side for crappie, so you could always go with 6lb mono
