Yeah, Rex and Jerry Cantrell are long time friends. Rex also plays bass on some songs from Cantrell's debut solo album Boggy Depot (released in 1998). I can hear the influences.
Make absolutely no mistake about it and with God as witness, the world is missing Pantera really effin bad. The world is a much better place with Rex and Phil continuing to make music.
Fact: Rex Brown played bass on some songs included on Jerry Cantrell's first solo album Boggy Depot (released in 1998). I can hear some AIC (well...Cantrell's) influence on Brown's work here.
Exactly, it has a radio rock feel, it's vintage, not 70s type of vintage, but by 2018 we can safely say that 90s era is a different kind of vintage. This is a song that I would rock in my car when night travelling!
+Bill He's known as the bass player in Pantera. Yes they are good musicians and known for writing good songs but face it Rex is no Les Claypool or Billy Sheehan.
Well damn. I've always heard Rex was a good guitarist but I really wasn't expecting him to be this good of a singer. I can't believe I haven't heard this sooner...
Rex claims in his book he played all the string recordings on the Down II album. He said he woke up earlier than the others who were passed out, and by the time they woke up he'd have most of it done. Not sure if its true, but it is what Rex claimed anyways.
@@jeremyjames1659 really? I'm gonna have to look into that lol. I've heard him say he wrote most of that album but I've never heard that he played the guitar parts as well...
Didn't know Pantera was goin' for "Classy"...🤔 🤣😏 DOWN is the heaviest band w/Pantera members since Pantera. ARMS OF THE SUN is Rex's other project I first heard (& they're badass!). This sounds like Jerry Cantrell & Chris Cornell wrote it...Gene Simmons sang it, and Slash on guitar. Meant that in a strange but good way.
No no God bless does everything the people that were in Pantera turn to gold. This is great song writing and parts placement just undeniable. Rex Brown Pure Gold
Just finished Rex's book yesterday, and after watching this i managed to spot MANY references to his personal struggle detailed within the pages of the book. - I'm super stoked that he is musically keeping busy. - The video and song are well executed and i imagine they captured what he was trying to convey perfectly. - I don't like the style of music at all,.. but sometimes it isn't about us,.. its about supporting the artists we love. Good luck to you Rex, and your kids. ♥
How so Mike? I didn't pick up on any overt 'rattish' tendencies. Perhaps a constant unnecessary element of bravado, but considering his life i let it slide.
The one and only Rex Brown💛 love you bro. 27 year old fan from south west arizona. I hope you make one more album at least. Gotta meet you one day, very soon hopefully. Zakk, Phil and Benante too
This album is turning out to be great. Well done Rex. You have really made this your own and not just carried on with something similar to your older bands. This could be one of my top albums of the year. I can hear your passion and its great
FUCKING MONUMENTAL !!!! Gorgeous 12 string action moving into bluesy grit, reality and balls! Beautiful! Lyrics are awesome too, things can get tough but ye just do the work, find yourself and push on through!
Pantera is my all time favorite band and I love all their projects after like damageplan, super joint, he'll yeah, kill devil hill, rex solo career and last but not least down
As much as what has happened sucks, if there is any good from it, it is that it truly illustrates the mindblowing level of talent that was Pantera. Love your stuff, Rex. Glad to see you still kicking ass! If you have any tour stops south of Orlando, I will beg, borrow and steal to get there. Even if I have to WALK!
I agree with a previous comment that Rex Browns' work since Pantera is arguably the best music of previous members. Saying that, I'm getting older and enjoy this type of rock more so than the incoherent angry shouty noise that Phil Anselmo has created. Hell Yeah and Vinnie have made generic adequate but not pulsating music. Just my opinion. As someone who was impressed and impacted significantly by Pantera (FBD was my first exposure) I immediately fell in love with I'm Broken single and evolved in seconds from old rock and hard rock to something that I fear may not be replicated. What an impact. Much respect to them as a collective and to Rex for creating tunes that I can medicate to 🤘
One minute & 32 seconds in... FUCKIN GOOD SHIT! be great to get you back to the Auckland City town hall for a bit of reminiscing! Missing the boys, HARD!
In places I can hear various influences as opposed to lazy copying. I'm a 90's rocker and this reminds me of Corrosion of Conformity for the groove riff and Alice in Chains for the mellow parts... as well as having a cool sound overall thanks to Rex being extremely talented and I think somewhat underrated due to the past company he kept. Cool sound and long live real music created and performed by the real musicians of the world 🤘
The legendary Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative) on drums!!
I was already impressed with Train Song, but this is just incredible. Couldn't be happier for Rex. Really looking forward to more from this album!
defo agree great song..i love my metal..but i love a nice bit of rok n rol this is a great song..
Right. For me, this track i can enjoy on repeat every day.
Rex In Chains...fucking great!
Ian Taylor kind of like how Kill Devil Hill was in the vain of Alice In Chains.
Yeah, Rex and Jerry Cantrell are long time friends. Rex also plays bass on some songs from Cantrell's debut solo album Boggy Depot (released in 1998). I can hear the influences.
haha i thought the same thing :P
Exactly.. i was thinking Alice in Chains too !
It's similar to new chains which is unfortunately crap
Make absolutely no mistake about it and with God as witness, the world is missing Pantera really effin bad. The world is a much better place with Rex and Phil continuing to make music.
Alice In Chains meets Pride & Glory. A great combo. I'm definitely buying this album!!
KicK IT!!! Was definitely thinking it sounds a bit like Zakk Wylde vocally.
Good call. I also hear some Cornell

This album has a very 1990's radio rock sound and feel to it.

Good on ya Rex! I will glady support anything you make. Underrated bass player! Great musician! Good luck Rex!
Um, how is he an underated bass player? He's world famous for being in Pantera, of which all four members are widely recognised for their talent.
+Bill He's known as the bass player in Pantera. Yes they are good musicians and known for writing good songs but face it Rex is no Les Claypool or Billy Sheehan.
When people talk about good or great bass players, i never hear him brought up. He's slept on a lot.
I dont like to compare but Rex might be the best metal bassist
Rex Brown. The Heavy Metal Willie Nelson
I use to play this album after getting out of my over night job at six in the morning. Possibly the best part of working the graveyard shift.
I usually turn the sound off at the end of a joint, fresh day sunlight and it's bedtime
This is greatness.... I have chills all over!, Rex you are on fire, brother!
Love it
what the
Beautiful track

@@jeremyjames1659i believe that. Rex contributed so much in Pantera as well, and maybe not everyone is aware of it
Rex, You do good man. I love you !!!!! So happy our music is going on !!!
Rex has been unleashed and the world deserves it
Yet again. Rex surprised us once more!
This is the classiest thing to come from Pantera since they disbanded.
Ain't pantera. It's Rex. Folks should learn to differentiate.
@@sicmic123 And he was in pantera
Sounds like the opposite to what phil anselmo is doing.
@Becoming Godsize It's well produced. Sounds excellent, I guess not your taste?
Didn't know Pantera was goin' for "Classy"...🤔

The album is superb, cant stop listing to it.Thanks Rex
Amazing, Pantera still lives in your music
man this so fucking awesome
I am really enjoying these songs!
Glad I discovered this channel

Yeah I cant get into this music either...
I read that book, too. It's really good
Yeah me too I'd heard he was a rat the book proved it
How so Mike?
I didn't pick up on any overt 'rattish' tendencies.

cool to see Rex still making tunes
Glad to see rex still producing music
Wow!!!! Rex has a hell of a singing voice!!!!!!
AWESOME. REX is AWESOME.
Absolutely beautiful, Rex.
The one and only Rex Brown💛 love you bro. 27 year old fan from south west arizona. I hope you make one more album at least. Gotta meet you one day, very soon hopefully. Zakk, Phil and Benante too
Definitely he should do song with Jerry Cantrell, this sound and vocals would fits with Jerry style
Rex played bass on a few tracks on Jerry Cantrell's 1st solo album.
This album is turning out to be great. Well done Rex. You have really made this your own and not just carried on with something similar to your older bands. This could be one of my top albums of the year. I can hear your passion and its great
it's about time that rex brown is a leader, I see him better future with his personal project than with down
Rex has some vocal skills!
reminds me of a metal Allman Brothers. Southern Metal, like Down, with more groove and soul. Good vocals, too. Just ordered the cd.
Love you Rex Brown
The not-so-subtle Dime tribute at 3:41
Travis Anderson lol you have good eyes
can you enlighten me please? i can't see anything related to dime there. If anything the face looks like Phil on that coin, to me.
SilverBane it's one "dime" coin
Cuz it was an actual dime
ah, makes sense, poor me. thanks for info!
Wow! Rex's new music is incredible! This dude can sing! Im definitely a fan

Rex looks pretty sickly.
