Hi Friends!
I wanted to show you some of the lovely things I've gotten in the mail recently! Thank you to those who put such time and effort into these beautiful creations! I'm so honored and appreciative.
I also show you a really cool blanket my husband brought me from BC (British Columbia) made by the Haida peoples. SO beautiful - and I share what some of the symbols represent.

Well - it hit me like a truck - I tested positive. Full blown sick, I am. I’ll be resting and sleeping for a while, trying to get past this fever, coughing, and exhaustion. 🤒

As a new graduate nurse and someone who has had Covid 3 times (and Covid pneumonia twice) this is my unsolicited advice (although obviously consult your own doctor and don’t just listen to internet strangers like me 😜): REST, hydrate, and consider taking supplemental zinc and vitamin D.

FYI: COVID tests will still come back positive for up to two weeks after symptoms subside. A positive test is enough to diagnose it; no need to test every day.
You don’t need to test him every day. Once you have it, it can show up even after the symptoms are over.

Omg, you were in my dream last night! You and your husband owned a big beautiful luxury hotel in the Midwest, and my boyfriend and I were visiting while he was training to be a pilot (random, he has no interest in being a pilot). We were out walking around and saw FIVE tornadoes coming our way, so we ran to your hotel to seek shelter.

Thank you so much for not only receiving such a beautiful gift from someone else's culture, but for enlightening us as to what each part of it means. It would've been easy to simply admire it yourself or show it to us in passing, but I like to absorb as much information as physically possible about the world and its people, so learning more about the Haida was an unexpected delight. I noticed how different their interpretations of the animals would be in comparison to what I've learned from classic literature, and it's a truly beautiful way to view them. As a writer, I'd love to incorporate these perspectives instead because they shine a whole new light on these creatures that deserves to be discussed and understood.
That being said, I am SO sorry you caught Covid too! Please take all of the time you need to rest and recover. We'll be sure to wait patiently until then, and you'll be foremost in my prayers throughout the coming week. May your tea (in whatever cup you have to make do with until your other one manifests again) be extra tasty, your blankets be extra comfy, and your dreams be extra wondrous as you navigate the healing process.

I'll have to look into the Haida peoples too, because they sound like they have a deep, rich history. Though I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for any avian friends around here, and whatever treasures they may have "borrowed" 👀

I remember on Christmas day last year making a cup of coffee then going to sit with my kids whilst they opened their presents. I only had 1 sip of the coffee and lost it!!
I was cleaning the TV unit one day (about 5 days after Christmas day) and there was my nasty cup of coffee 🤢😂 I must have put it down when I sat on floor with kids 😅

Hi Jeannie! Haida is pronounced Hide-ah, just two syllables. I was fortunate to visit Haida Gwaii this past summer for the first time, it is a truly spectacular place! Haida culture is alive and well, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the people to preserve the language, arts, ceremonies, and lands. ❤️

@@JeannieBASMR We (Yup'ik) are an Indigenous group from southwest Alaska and parts of Siberia. Commonly used to be grouped in with other Alaska Native groups as "eskimo". But there are many groups of culturally and genetic diverse peoples throughout Alaska that span into Canada, Northern US, and Greenland. As an anthropologist I could talk hours about it haha, but I am so glad that you are interested!

I never knew about what happened to the children and communities and my heart breaks for what I’m learning. I’d love to know so much more about Indigenous Peoples. Any recommendations for reading?
