Come make a "GOLD" penny with me!

A copper penny is first zinc plated, by reaction with a solution containing zinc ions (sodium hydroxide and zinc metal). Then as the penny is heated, the zinc and copper merge and create an alloy (brass) with a golden colour.

It is not gold. It I actually brass. It looks like gold because the heat caused the zinc coating to combine with the copper in the Penny.

In Canada I'm not sure but in the US as long as the value of the currency stays the same no matter how it looks it is fine but if you change its value like for example say that a penny is now fifty cents that is illegal
