We visited Cumberland Island back in 1990 when we used to live in Jax Florida. Very cool place. ❤

I was there in 1980. The pool house was neat to look into, but even then it was falling apart.

Just visited this past weekend 4/22/23. It was a very cool experience, the beach was great, got a lot of pictures and saw the ruins of the Carnegie house

Cumberland is a beautiful, magical place. The maritime forests, wandering horses, and beaches left in their natural state are elixir for the soul. But please do your homework before going there. It is mostly a wild place with almost zero services on the island. Even trash cans are a rarity. Anything you bring in you must take out. A good friend of mine took home Lyme disease as a souvenir from an undetected tick bite.

My fifth great grandmother is buried there.

It’s a natural area, all the structures should rot away! The robber baron history is nothing compared to the natural beauty of the undeveloped areas.

The ‘copy’ of Gogos bandanna portrait like her grandmothers is sort of silly.

I don’t think so. It’s her history and many of us take up characteristics of our blood relatives. I found it touching.
