This makes Belos/Philip even pettier. Now it looks like his attempted genocide of the Boiling Isles isn’t just the magic-fearing fanaticism of the 1600s, but his way at getting back at the people who “stole” his brother from him. From what we saw in his mind, whether he killed Caleb intentionally for “betraying” him or he tried to kill Evelyn and Caleb’s death was an accident, HE is the reason his brother is gone. His inability to accept that is what made him a monster.
He couldn't help it, a witch? I'm thinking how Caleb met Evelyn was similar to how Sprig met Anne in Amphibia. She was stranded in the human realm and he agreed to help her find a way home.
Honestly, a really clever way to do exposition. Most of the information isnt new but the few new details are shrouded in the fact that this is a local legend passed down. Its not just blatantly telling the audience what precisely happened. It also is integrated well by this being a natural setting for it. @@Jester-bh1dx I don't even know if it was brainwashing. The story here says that Caleb and Philip were orphans who only became Witch Hunters to fit in. It's entirely possible Philip bought into it a bit harder because he was the younger of the two, but it wasn't originally something they were born into. There's TONS of evidence that witches and demons of the BI aren't the evil monsters humans would have portrayed them as, and Philip lived amoung them for hundreds of years. Caleb was drawn into the demon realm first, and Philip went on a quest to go save him. As far as we know, all their lives they've only had each other, and when Philip found Caleb, he saw that he had fallen in love with one of the witches and wanted to stay in the BI. Philip probably felt like he was being abandoned and resented Evelyn and the demon realm for bewitching and stealing his brother. I think he tried to kill Evelyn and in the struggle ended up killing his brother instead, and that forever cemented his hatred of witches. He has to hate them now, not because he can't see the truth, but he's in too deep to acknowledge any other possibility.
