I think it can best be defined as simple, clean clothes that are comfortable but also show maturity. So like black slacks and a loose button up, or a midi dress with a consistent pattern. What you may wear to the first dinner at your partners parents home.
Smart casual= semi-formal/casual. It means a nice dress top, jeans, and dress shoes. Or a nice casual top, dress bottoms, and casual shoes or dress shoes either one. It can also mean a nice dress that you would wear to meet ur lovers parents but would also turn around and wear to a party, wear casual shoes or dress shoes.
... they told us to dress like this to a Police academy meeting. I did not understand the assignment. HOW TF DO YOU PEOPLE LEARN THIS??? TEACH ME YOUR MAGIC
@@fahrulrozi7458 IDK if this is right, but I think smart casual for a man is like a suit without a tie, essentially. Or maybe a vest, slacks, no jacket.
Whenever the dress code is smart casual, I always wear jeans and a shirt. Depending on the destination and the people, heels or trainers. Always makes a good impression and fits the category.
Yeah, a lot of my friends come to me asking me what to wear so I will go out with a group of them and we will all look around and buy a black dress this black dress can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with ballet flats either way it can work for like seven different occasions because otherwise my phone is flooded with them asking me what do I wear
I'm sitting here, trying to think of the words to explain the difference to you, and I realize that I can understand it but can't actually phrase it correctly, this is horrendous. (Actual answer that isn't perfect but might help- semi formal and formal are both Nice Clothing, but semi formal tends to be simpler outfits, simpler hair (and hair that is worn down, more often), and simpler accessories. A knee-length dress, a shawl, low heels, and earrings are semi-formal. A long dress, a fur stole, higher heels, and chandelier earrings with a matching necklace is formal.)
Dear Hayley, Lately the subtitles are very small. When they were bigger it was easier for me to follow the jokes (and laugh a lot!!!) Would it be possible for the future to continue with the old font? (For example like the ones in "nothjng to wear"). Sorryyyyyyy for bothering you❤
Ha ha ha ha. I am not a native English speaker and many years back, I had my first invitation to an event in Australia with the smart casual dress code. Took me days of research to find out what would be suitable. I can totally relate 🤣🤣🤣. Sometimes I just hide behind the fact that I'm French, and suddenly I can wear anything, drink wine and enjoy myself without feeling too bad, worst case scenario people will just say "she's French" and that will be my excuse 🤣
I was overdressed yesterday in that stupid party full of people who hates me. I was there around 5 minutes (and went 2 hours late out of four). Couldn’t stand it, went home.
Smart or business casual just means you’re wearing what you’d go shopping or visit a friend in, or go to a bar for happy hour, but it’s nice enough you wouldn’t be embarrassed if your boss called you in to the office for something quick or if you ran into your future in-laws at the mall.
It's the subtle details that makes these videos so good. Like in this one, her trousers were unbuttoned to indicate she had teen trying things on perhaps?
The suit without a top underneath was really good looking on your! And the first dress was really cute as well, if something told me smart casual I would've thought of the first two options as well
My first ever work Christmas party was this week. I had a sequins gold dress and even though the dress code was formal I felt soooo over the top. Found out one of the older women was wearing something really similar but green, so I wore it. Fuckin gold sequins, thigh high heels (3" but I'm already 6'1 so that was fun) Best decision I ever made. I have never had so many people not recognize me before, and so many people said I looked hot which is new for me. My confidence is through the damn roof. So much for over the top I guess it worked :') Guess that's what happens when I wear the same black outfit and bandana everyday. Ain't no way in hell I'm looking nice to a factory. TLDR Go a bit out of your comfort zone sometimes (at the proper times) it pays off
Casual is sweatpants or tattered jeans w/t-shirt, "smart casul" is nice jeans or slacks/skirt with a top. Not too short, tight or revealing. Decent footwear, not ratty sneakers.
I don't know why I thought "smart casual" would end with nothing at all.... but really felt like "birthday suit" was the perfect balance of "smartly dressed and casual"
Even tho this is just a sketch I think a white top with skinny jeans and a blazer with some simple jewelry can do the trick. Anything with a blazer and/or simple jewelry can make an outfit simple yet slightly fancy.😉😊
i actually liked the flowery top. perhaps with a pencil skirt and a chiqué blazer up top? tho it's maybe not Christmasy enough. perhaps a red knitted sweater(without a lot of/any designs(no Christmas sweater)), loose the blazer and the pencil skirt stays
The way i finally figured out 'smart casual' was 'something in the range of the nicest thing you'd wear to school and the worst thing you'd wear to church'.
Smart casual sounds like the dresscode for my family functions. It would translate to "best/fanciest plaid shirt, jeans and cowboy hat rather then normal barn clothes".
Holy moly I’m early for once 🥺 Also as someone who works in an environment with smart causal as the dress code - ya it’s hard picking an outfit sometimes so I got with my standard long jumper, trousers and DM boots. Easy. (Also I work in an office so yeah)
Actually that dress & tie idea is something that could be expanded upon, as I have a dress similar to your idea & when I wore it to a smart casual event it wasn't too ott ( when I didn't wear my fur coat) & this had big opportunity, I mean wear some black tights & some pumps or ballet flats, Daniel earrings & brackets & your there. I think a bun with a Paris Hilton like fringe would be amazing too. Smart casual is tricky because it needs to look like " just left the office to go out with friends for drinks" vibe
Honestly whenever an event is a tad bit on the formal side I just wear a plain shirt/t-shirt, a pencil skirt and something over the shirt that adds sleeves or covers shoulders and it usually works.
I think of it as clothes you would wear at a restaurant with family. I wear t shirt (for warmth, so always small so it's not seen) then I wear a red shirt with a checkered pattern, and school trousers (my school has a "smart casual dress code"
Smart casual is one of those things that feels like everyone else had a meeting about, they came to a mutual agreement and didn't invite you.
So relatable.
Summer Vs winter clothes too. I wear the exact same stuff year around, just with or without a jacket/coat/jumper.
@@lisahenry20 There's a vine (Thomas Sanders?) where he remarks on wearing black year round.

I agree! And she could wear just the printed shirt and the trousers without the jacket.
I really expected the pink sleeping bag to be the last outfit

It’s generally recommended to keep that away during work events due to sexual harassment rules 😂😂

Okay but the suit with the different top was actually cute
Yeah it actually looked good
That look really is good but without the amount of confidence particularly needed to rock it, trust me it feels awkward. Extra awkward.
It looked old, can be worn if she was much older
Yea. Thke away the jacket and you get smart casual...
Yea and she can pair with a black skirt

I can relate. Dress codes are so confusing. Like how do you draw the line off “formal” to make “semi-formal”.
I'm sitting here, trying to think of the words to explain the difference to you, and I realize that I can understand it but can't actually phrase it correctly, this is horrendous.

Just got an invite last night to a "smart casual" dress code event this weekend..
My only response was "wtf is smart casual".
Casual is sweatpants or tattered jeans w/t-shirt, "smart casul" is nice jeans or slacks/skirt with a top. Not too short, tight or revealing. Decent footwear, not ratty sneakers.
This is one of the reasons I wear a lot of vintage-y stuff. I either fit the dress code, or people just decide I'm eccentric.
And it looks cool either way. Embrace eccentricity! Vintage-y things are the best.

Ok but hear me out: Nothing at all but a nice tie with a fun pattern(?)

smart casual is how we used to go to school dances when we had the peplum going out top combined with the straight pants and a cute necklace
