People always say Thomas shields are terrible but if you give him enough hp and stack his burst then it works perfectly fine for me. He’s no zhongli but his shields keep my hu tao alive just fine.
My thoma has 25k hp but doing just fine. People are used to Zhongli so they're too lazy to dodge LMAO

ive been using c4 tankfei as a replacement for thoma, i honestly think it's more efficient resource-wise, don't hv to spend anything on talents

New player here, i'm just really glad that at the same time Mtashed started a new account. Not only this series is very entertaining, but i can also use it as a guide.

This what I like about "don't care about Meta" as long as we enjoy it, we are fine
I'd add, that it's actually fun to do meta but eventually the meta will become repetitive. Mixing it up and using all these new characters is one of the main sources of fun left in the game since there isn't much endgame.

The great thing is you can beat everything with the off meta characters, they just take a bit more effort to build correctly

@@mischarowe probably zhongli, as since his shield scales off of his hp and on top of it- it's geo meaning it has 150% damage absorption against all elemental and physical damage

This series is making me want to start a new account focusing on whatever characters I pull instead of the meta characters.
I did a secondary, but I bought a rerolled with Ayaka and Jean since I didnt think Id get Ayaka otherwise. Honestly its a great change of pace to be able to just take the secondary at whatever pace you want and play more characters across the 2 accounts.

@@austinharr4067 I made a second acc and it's great for trying characters you wouldnt normally use, I dont have childe on my main and didnt plan to pull for him but I got him on my 2nd acc and hes my main on there, great change of pace

As a Yanfei main I am loving these videos bc I love seeing people enjoying her playstyle and as a 4 star character she's quite strong! Very nice and useful and her range is amazing.
1:35 i just triple crowned my hu tao a few days ago, still have 3 left honestly ppl get too worried over it you get them back over time. if you like the character just do it

@@tucalicuban my hu tao is 10/10/8 horrible copium artifacts no set bonus at all 155 crit dmg c0 with r3 90 dragons bane level 90 and the highest shes hit for me so far is 89k vaporise burst with horrendous unlevelled xinqiu no sac sword
and thats with the like worst fartiest artifacts in the world, up to you to decide if thats good dmg or not, just an idea to give for a like "realistic"/achievable setup

When you use Albedo on field then always cast flower when you can, it resets the cool downs, and does dmg when cast.

This series is so fun! Because of it, I made a new alt account and unexpectedly got Albedo on my first ever 10 pull and got him again after 2 single pulls (Also got Bennett, Rosaria, Xingqiu, Fischl, Gorou which i don’t use in my main)
Using and building other characters are definitely a change of scenery, I’m having fun exploring again and the game itself is just so enjoyable again. I’m having so much nostalgia and I’m excited on it’s future. I’m trying to get Itto now, 40+ pity, wish me the best T_T)

If fun is what you are aiming for, then I would say Itto would be a great addition to Mtashed's account. You could run a full geo team and go unga bunga at enemies
I love seeing him play these non-meta characters, especially my Yanfei! I use her all the time and she just slams mobs dead so fast sometimes!

Thoma! Awesome! I use him with Hu Tao and I think he’s great. But of course his shield doesn’t compare to Zhongli, but he’s still good! ☺️
No-one's shields compare to Zhongli's apparently. (I don't have Zhongli.)
@@mischarowe basically Zhongli’s shield can make your character completely invulnerable to damage. Fun at first but can make the game way too easy.

I have rolled Thoma on Hu Tao banner and he is just made to be her support. Most crucial point of his kit is that his Q makes you stack some E shields when normal attacking and that stacking of their summed thickness is the trick. You gotta get pretty hefty ammount of ER to cast Q on cooldown, while energy generation is pretty bad from it's own E. And also shield strengh is scaled of HP, so HP goblet is best choice imho, cause you won't reach good damage numbers anyway, so why even bother with going for Pyro DMG goblet. I ran him on Favonious Lance, to generate more Energy for my XQ, so I had to use Crit Circlet, but with The Catch you might go all in. Hu Tao is wild with her iframing, but with more stationary character you might want to make shields thicker. He is also perfect holder for NO set, cause you gotta spam Q on cooldown anyway to maintain shield strengh.
My poor man's abyss comp (fully F2P) and rotation was Thoma with Fav Lance and NO, E->Q (+ some NA if Fav effect not proc yet), Sucrose for Pyro VV shred and EM share, Xingqiu for Hydro aura and I could survive full Hu Tao rotation just on Thoma's shield and XQ micro-healing while smashing everything around with all characters on C0 and very average artifats(only XQ C1). For earlier times i used Barbara instead of Sucrose to heal sometimes when doing artifact farming.
I see lots of smacking Thoma's good name but in some comps when you don't need to rely on his damage output or Pyro application (cause they are poor indeed) he can shine. Just from being good NO holder + pyro resonance he can fill some flex spots in teams that rely on using normal attacks. I tell you this, cause you can use Yanfei in very similar fashion as I use Hu Tao in my comp. This way you can pair for example Bennet + Xianling on the second team later.
Do it max Thoma. Max him. He's so much fun.

Even tho I've never crowned a character yet I'm able to do the abyss just fine. I do think its nice to crown a unit for a "slight" Dps increase but its more of a luxury than an actual Dps increase depending on the character used. I just feel bad for the people who said they main a "Main DPS" Unit and triple crowned them just to stop using them. I would say crowning support units is always future proof because every character will always have that one support they want and need as long as that person enjoys using them. Lastly I'm not afraid to crown a unit I just find it as a waste of resources that I have to farm back up if its a character I don't see myself using "long term" and I feel people can agree on this however I always use support units for the main dps so I'll be crowning supports pretty soon but just waiting for that kazuha re-run 🍃🍂🍁

If you're bored a cool thing you can do is using your lvl 20 characters to do daily commissions and even domains. This way you get to experience their gameplay while leveling up friendship and sometimes you may end up pleasantly surprised with one of them and discover fun comps. I know I did :P got most of the characters in my box to friendship 10 already lol
Oh and don't be scared to crown your favorites. Started in April: used 3 on Keqing, 1 on Raiden, 1 on Ayaka, 2 on Hu Tao, 1 on Rosaria and still have 3 left! Sure It's expensive but worth it imo

Don't know if Mtashed knows, but Yanfei's meta build is Tankfei. Prototype amber + C4. She legit becomes a better Thoma. She gets a pyro shield that's 45% of her HP, and basically has 100% uptime because of the weapons energy passive.
Mtashed if you see this, running Energy recharge sands with HP Goblet/Circlet will give you a solid shield & help with your energy issues . If/when you get Favonius Lance, that’ll be his best in slot weapon also
if you want better off field albedo, go for a def goblet. if you want burst damage albedo go for geo! test both and see what fits you best. for reference, with full def stat artifacts, my albedo does 11-12k ticks. love watching you having fun dude, you deserve it.
This series is making me want to start a new account. Also, Thoma's shields aren't bad, how it works is that whenever you get a new shield, it inherits the hp of the previous shield up to a certain limit, and his ult refreshes the shield every time his flame waves hit(max once per second), and also shield strength increases when shield resets, so it can stack crazy strong with ult. Ult is his main shielder.
chat really is on crack, thoma's shield is NOT bad, it's just a bit annoying to stack. it's really good for yanfei since it's resistant to interruption + easy pyro res + his icd is long, so he won't steal yanfei's melts and vapes. you just have to learn his mechanics. I think thoma would be a nice fit for this new account since mtashed has been using so many unusual characters and wants some new stuff

I used to be Yanfei main, and I can agree she's very fun! Since I don't comment on the correct videos (my bad) I remember in a previous one in the series you asked if Yanfei's burst was a one time charge of damage. While it has that, it replenishes all the scarlet seals on it's own without the player needing to do it through normal attacks or her e for a certain duration. When all 3 seals are replenished (by c6 it becomes 4 seals I believe) it give you reduced stamina consumption while doing charged attacks! Just wanted to let you know in case you didn't, hope this helped!
I forgot to mention, if you switch to another character during the duration that her burst has effect and then go back to Yanfei then it goes away (similar to her e/skill)
Gratz on gettin Thoma, i just cant stress enaugh how big of a boost for chasing after The Catch, his % for getting double fish is amazing even tho it shows as low...
Albedo carried me through my early game (Keqing on TF + C6 Fishl + Albedo + Sucrose). Flower damage + crystalize shields were sooo useful. And now he’s back with better weapon and new artifact set. I’m so happy Mihoyo gave him some love!
Currently using Yanfei, Xingqiu, Kaeya, and Noelle. Noelle is low-key the backbone of the team because she shields, heals, and makes farming easier due to having a claymore.
I've been maining Yanfei for a while now. I know she's not meta, and while I don't love her aesthetic, she's by far the character that does the most dmg for me. Good to see a high level player using her too :)
I got Thoma & Sayu together on the same 10 pull & they work well together. 👌His burst randomly throws out fire & Sayu's swirl spreads out that fire all over the place.

well people are right to be scared for crowning units, crowns are limited and it uses too much mora and you never know when youll get bored of the character you crowned
Ikr... It depends what kind of player you are I guess. In Warframe I stick to a few characters but even there I get bored after a few months. Genshin characters are WAY simpler and require 10x the investment... If Eula didn't have Biri Biri VA I'd probably never crown a character until I get C2 Jean (which will never happen lol). It's too big of a risk when we have less than half the game available to us currently. Personally I'd recommend waiting, at least for now. The chance of a character coming out that you like more is exceedingly high.
Its so nice watching people enjoying what they are doing since it's giving me the same vibes, glad you are enjoying the game again.

Crown who you want. I've already used up 9 crowns. Double crowned Yoimiya, Raiden, Hu Tao, and Eula. Single crowned Beidou. I don't regret any cuz they are so fun and the investment is worth it. More importantly, it's DEFINITE. You get the upgrade at the expected time unlike artifacts which heavily relies on luck
So who's gonna tell him "Nani baka" isn't a proper noun?
this is a great series so far. also thoma's shields are great when built. use skill then burst, and he has one of the best shields in the game. can't use his shield like zhongli's because it doesn't work like that. his shield is constantly refreshing, which is its biggest strength imo.

The main reason I crown very few characters is cause I play a lot of characters. That level 10 talent replaces my level 9 talent, that replaced artifact has a great use elsewhere, I only keep farming sets that are versatile. The later ranks cost more, but they also get slight diminishing returns. (Artifacts even worse though) Looking at my Xiangling's level 12 Pyronado, that final rank will give me 6.25% relative dmg increase (14 flat), whereas the first one gave 7.5% (8.4 flat)

thoma’s shield isnt bad it just works differently from zhongli’s press one button and put the game on easy mode shield
the goal of thoma’s shield isnt to stop you from taking damage its to stop you from being staggered in the middle of your attacks and he does a good job at it, the long icds are there so that your pyro dps (usually hutao) doesnt get their big vaporize/melt damage taken away by him. the people saying he’s bad are only saying that because he’s not the pyro xingqiu/4 star zhongli they thought he would be
his kit is weird but i think its weird in a good way
that team is really good honestly...albedo for random shields through crystalize and off field dmg...and use his ult before doing reactions with yanfei for that spicy melt damage after setting up rosa and thoma for yanfei to go wild!

Thoma is the second strongest shielder (better than Diona) cus he can consistently make shields with his burst + when his shield breaks, it lessens the dmg (from what I have heard)

Thoma's shield is terrible? Excuse me? Building his shield to 14,000 max HP takes almost no effort even without Black Tassel. I was gonna pull for Zhongli, until I C20'd Thoma before Hu Tao C1. He shields, provides pyro resonance, his C6 gives an additional damage bonus when Q is active, pile all that on top of Noblesse Oblige braindead specced into HP and ER and he's so broken that I don't even want Zhongli or to raise Bennett anymore :)

Don't listen to the people that say thomas shield is bad
His shields refresh, it's not just one shield, you just get him four HP nobles obliged and run him with triple HP and give him the catch or any energy recharge staff and you are set.
The reason people don't like playing him is because his not braindead like zongli or diona, you have to be active with him, you have to keep auto attacking in his ult with the charecter you have out which is perfect for yanfei and hu tao to keep the shield on.
To the people in his chat that said he's bad i can tell you with full conviction they haven't build him their the same people that said xangling is bad at the beginning of the game.
I use him with hu tao and I've never had an issue outside the time it took to learn how to effectively play him.
I'm AR57 with essentially nothing to do but farm bosses and artifacts and I started a new Genshin account bc of you, making Lisa as DPS just having fun again! I forgot how fun Genshin was
Thomas shields are very strong based off his hp and plus his shield ends when his cooldown is about to

There's a lot of characters that i want to crown but i keep lacking resources, but when i finally have the resources i completely forget what i was saving up for and spend it on something else xD
Thoma is so fun and his shields are way better than people think (he just needs 160-180% energy and 35k HP, then he‘s awesome)
As long as you are having fun that's all that matters
Thoma shields are very nice if you build enough hp and energy recharge. Also requires a main dps that uses normal attacks very often for the shield to stack enough. My thoma shield never breaks before the burst is ready again so I think he’s fine.

If your saying that itto without ult will do nothing, i think when you do auto atk and use skill it will grant him stacks then that stacks change his charge atk and becomes geo dmg and just swing his claymore left and right until the stacks are gone, every swing is 1 stack not sure tho, then the last hit is when he hit the ground with his claymore, no need ult but ofc ult will make it better
It took you this many play throughs to truly understand its game don't worry it took me a few lol keep up the FUNNY content to make me day :)
Thomas shield is like a back-up if you fail dodgin. He has kept my Hu Tao alive so far, just use him he's pretty fun. My Thoma is lvl 89 w/ talenets 1/9/8 and 2pc tenacity + 2pc emblem, ER%/HP%/HP%
I agree I stopped waisting time on artifacts and crowned four characters in the last couple weeks…and it feels good
talking statistically, if you use your thoma right (such that he maintains a 0 downtime for his shields), his shielding capability is almost on par with zhongli
