Hey my friend !! Just came in from snow blowing our first major snow storm of the year here in NH. That hot buttered rum looks and sound delicious. Wish you were here to enjoy one around a fire with the snow falling. I'm not saying that I enjoy all the work of snow removal, but there are nights when the snow falling almost seems magical. Is it shelf stable with the butter added? Will it gradually precipitate out? Also, is there a reason not to add the brown sugar and cinnamon into the bottle?
I'll say it again Randy, I love your enthusiasm and surprise when a recipe turns out. One question though, even after you filtered it did it still not leave an oil slick in your mouth? I've got plenty of rum, so this is in my gotta try file.
You should make it as a cold beverage and review it that way. You'd just have to replace the boiling water with club soda. Please try that and post a review. Adding carbonation to it could make for a perfect summer beverage.
This process is called fat-washing. Any fat source that coagulates and solidifies when cold can be used. So think, olive oil gin. Bacon bourbon. Coconut rum.

Would replacing the rum with Lyre's non-alcoholic rum be a no-go seeing as that it needs to be put in a freezer for several hours?
