  • These are the top 5 hardest Chemistry classes that I have taken as an upperclassmen undergrad chemistry major. I go through and explain which classes I found the hardest and why to give you guys a gauge of the hardest classes to expect in the chemistry major. Now everybody is different and one chem class may be easy for someone and hard for another so I also want you guys to give your list of the hardest chemistry classes that you have taken in you undergrad chem major! What do you think the hardest chemistry major classes are?

    The hardest class I've taken during my chemistry major is History. Why do I have to wrote a paper on the Iriquois confederation? I'm a chemistry major.

    Spot-on about the reasoning factor. P-Chem, Physics, and Calculus drove me to and over the edge years ago. Very satisfying and glad I stuck with it.

    I'm taking physical chemistry 1 this fall and am equally afraid and excited 😵. I agree with your reasoning for gen chem 1. It seems like it was the hardest so far because there were so many subjects of chemistry covered in a short amount of time. O chem seemed less hard even though it was bit more complex because it was fun and you get to be a sort of chemical detective piecing puzzles together. Did you have to take quantitative anlysis? I took that class earlier than I think I was suppose to, it felt really hard, maybe because I hadn't taken more advanced calculus at the time.

      I had to take Analytical Chem which sounds like my schools equivalent of your quantitative analysis. I had a really great professor so it wasn’t as bad for me.

    Chem difficulty depends on content difficulty And how good your prof is at explaining the concepts (at least in my opinion)

    I'm thinking about studying chemistry. So maybe you can answer is it difficult to study physics during the first year? What exactly do you studied in this class?

    • @zahlazizi
      @zahlazizi  3 роки тому +3

      A lot of chemistry majors will take Physics or Calc their first year because they need them for prerequisites later on! The physics classes you have to take are relatively basic and the first semester of it is basically a slightly more in depth review of high school physics (with a bit more calc). It is totally doable has long as you manage all your work and time well!

    Hi! I’m planning to pursue chem in college but the problem is I’m not that good in chem and math and I only chose chem as my course because I love the job opportunities that chem can give me. What should I do? Should I still go for it?

    • @zahlazizi
      @zahlazizi  3 роки тому

      If you want to work in the field of chemistry because you love the field and the science I say go for it! If you are looking for a major just for the income/job opportunities I would say to try and find a different one. Chemistry can be very tough and the work isn’t always worth it if you aren’t passionate about the subject.

    • @zahlazizi
      @zahlazizi  3 роки тому +5

      I’m going to look for a job (hopefully in materials) to save up for a few years before aiming for grad school in materials science.

      @@zahlazizi many graduate schools will pay for your classes and give you a stipend if you teach for them. It may make more financial make sense if you get a master's degree before getting a job. It pays a bit more, and going to grad school quickly after undergrad, will make some classes easier than waiting a few years before taking grad classes. (I did the latter, waited a year before grad school, and I couldn't remember some material that I used to know.)

    Hello, i want to chose between physics and chemistry for my major. Which of the two is harder?

    • @zahlazizi
      @zahlazizi  2 роки тому +3

      I’d say chem edges it out in difficulty although both are pretty hard majors. Chem requires both some high level math for the quantum mechanics portions while also using memorization/concept application and heavy spatial reasoning. Chem really is the universal science so you get the hardest of a lot of them in one major. That being said if you hate math physics will be a nightmare (and some of your chem classes to some extent).

      In my opinion, analytical chemistry (called Quantitative Analysis at my college), isn't that bad. Some say it's Gen Chem on steroids! But if you're good at Gen Chem math, you should be fine. The lecture for me was relatively easy. The lab on the other hand...was DIFFICULT for me! In lab, at least for my college, they grade you SOLELY on parts per thousand accuracy or percent error. In each lab, you have to find the percent composition of an analyte in a sample. The farther away you get from the true value, the lower your score will be. Since your value has to be close to the true value to get a good score, you have be very careful and precise throughout every experiment, even if you're just measuring something or mixing a solution! Seriously, something as little as an air bubble in a pipet can turn an A to an F! I don't want to scare you about it though. I know many people who do well in the course! Just be careful in the lab and you'll be fine. Overall, I think analytical chem is OK.
