Loved this! Have not thought of using my stamps with almost invisible inks as a guide - and then fun with watercolor! So helpful for those of us who have trouble with drawing. Thank you!
Gorgeous! And great tips on colour, thank you. A tip - if you store your dye ink pads upside down, the dye stays on the top of the pad and you rarely have to re-ink. I have dye inks from 20 years that I've never reinked and they are still as vibrant now as when I purchased them.
wondering why you wouldn't use a beginning pad that has adequate paint in it. impossible to see
Wow thanks for that tip! So good to know👍❤️
This is just lovely! A person learns an incredible amount listening to you!! Thank you so much!
Love watching your giftedness Dawn! Thank you for explaining what you are doing so well. So beautiful 👍❤️
Simply beautiful! I am enjoying binge watch your videos!
You give great water coloring tips to make water painting a lot more enjoyable. Thank you.
Absolutely GORGEOUS water coloring, Dawn! Thank you so much for sharing this video with us, too...I really enjoyed watching you create!
Thanks Barb! 💓
Your tutorial just popped up, and it's lovely. I was feeling very tense but watching the butterfly come to life so gently has relaxed me, so I thank you.
You made this so approachable, excellent teaching.
Hi I have just watched this video after searching for watercolouring videos on UA-cam and am delighted to have found this one. Thank you for sharing this pretty project and simply explained technique. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Susanne Ward So happy you found it, and even happier if it helped you! Thanks!
Beautiful! They look so real! Absolutely love water coloring. Wish I was better at it.
It can be a difficult medium. But there are so many different styles that I'm sure you'll find the one that you a most comfortable with. As long as you're having fun...right?!
Beautiful work... I enjoyed watching and hearing the way you added darks and lights and enhanced details. Very nice. Thank you for sharing..
Wow - these butterflies are so beautiful! Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I am watching all your videos instead of watching TV - and it is a wonderful way to spend my evenings :-)
Thanks Dawn! I love this! I really appreciate you taking the time to do all these videos for us. They are wonderful. Have a blessed day. Wanda
You're welcome Wanda! Thank you! ❤️
Beautiful! Very much enjoyed this video!
Just beautiful. You make it look so easy. I just got my first watercolors and need to practice. Love your butterflies.
Please keep making these tutorials! I love stamps but I never use them! I want to get into this, though. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!
Awe, bust those babies out! 😉
Great tutorial, thank you so much! The butterflies are beautiful , I love them and can’t wait to try.
It's just beautiful! It looks like you I don't need to paint myself anymore, just use stamps. I need to pick up this set. Thank you for the inspiration. Take care, Kim :)
What a stunning gift of notecards this would make. Thank you!
Thank you!
Beautiful cards. You made it look so easy to do that I just might try it. The colors also worked so nicely together. TFS
Thank you for the great watercolor tutorial, I do not have a butterfly stamp yet so I will need to draw the butterfly freehand and am definitely using your technique to watercolor it.
Wow very effective. The cards and colours are beautiful. Love this method of water colouring, I've seen a similar technique with Copics. You made it look so easy, I'll have to try it. TFS.
Thank you! Yes, I love Copics too. But I find it easier to blend with watercolors. I think I'm Copic challenged! 😜
Wow, you are really brave. I've never seen this technique before without stamping the image with at least some clear embossing powder to keep the ink inside the lines. Its just beautiful!!!
Thank you! The water actually keeps all of the pigment where you want it. The pigment will only flow where the paper is wet. 😉
+Wplus9 Design Thanks for letting me know!
+Wplus9 Design Hi Dawn! I spent some time at Blick Art Supplies yesterday and had a really cool conversation there with them about your video here. So I basically asked him why you chose the brush you did and he said to "preserve the line" - exactly as you did (we were talking about no line stamping and coloring in the image with water colors in reference to your butterfly tutorial here)! I found a 1/4" bright Princeton Neptune brush that looked almost the same as yours so I'm finally going to give this a try! You have no idea how much this impacted my thinking. Oh, also, instead of embossing powder, he said I could try Fine Line Masking Fluid (which I have but hadn't thought of it like embossing powder) if I really want to be on training wheels so to speak so thought I would share that thought here as well but definitely hope I won't need it. Thanks so much again for responding to my comment!
What a beautiful watercolor video. Thanks so much for sharing. Quite informative 💓
Absolutely stunning, Dawn! I have been waiting for this video since you sneak peeked it on instagram. Well worth the wait. I can't wait to own this set.
So happy that you enjoyed it Christy!
Those stained palettes on your right are such a piece of art themselves

Gorgeous! love to watch and trying new ideas from your videos.
You have completely inspired me!!! I love your videos. Thank you so much.
I can't wait to try this. I love your videos and wish you had a new one everyday. That's not too much to ask is it? . I think you were a part of the online watercolor class. But I wish you would do an entire class of watercoloring stamps. Or even a weekly indepth paid class to help us take it to the next level. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.
Thank you so much Tammy! Yes, I was part of the OCC Watercolor class. 😀 I do plan on doing videos more often. I've permanently set up my video camera and am getting into the habit of just turning it on when I sit down to create.
Fabulous
I agree with Tammy Mohr. You should do a watercolor class. That would be so fun!
Beautiful & so quick...love it!
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing!

Wow! You're amazing.
I just loved this video but I was wondering what kind of paper you used and what brand of watercolors you did this with?
This is such a lovely tutorial thank you !!
This was wonderful honey!
Thank you so much for sharing! xoxo
Please could you tell me what
The little blue square brush is
You are using? Thank you
Your butterflies are beautiful.
So beautiful!
So glad I found your channel! :)
Gorgeous!
Beautiful!!!!
OMG. I sat there in front of the video. Paints ready. Exact stamped butterfly. Watercolour paper. Clean water. Multiple brushes including the one mentioned on the video and followed each step as it played out..... A quadriplegic blind man could have done a better job..... You people out there like Dawn- thank you for sharing your talent...
So pretty!
So, are you using prepared blank cards or did you make your own out of cardboard sheet...?
I prepare my own. I start with an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of Wplus9 100lb card stock. Cut it vertically down the middle at 4 1/4" . Take that 4 1/4" x 11" piece and score it at 5 1/2" horizontally across the center and fold. You end up with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" A2 top folding card. You can get 2 cards out of each piece of card stock with no waste.
Soo pretty 👍😊🇦🇺
I love it!
very pretty and delicate:)
Beautiful work
BEAUTIFUL
I love this video...
Do you work on a slope or a flat table?
I loved it so beautiful, thank you :)
Lovely!
wow! i love it! i have to try this, thanks for sharing :)
What kind of watercolour paper are you using? I am doing this whit Canson Aquarelle and it is turning out awful. Your water seems to sit longer. My water gets soaked in instantly, eventually the paper starts to pill. help!
I used Strathmore 140 lb cold pressed. Make sure that when you initially wet the image that it is "glossy" wet. You should be able to see a reflective sheen of water sitting on top of the paper. If you work quickly the paper should stay damp until almost the end. If it gets too dry, let it dry completely and then you can rewet the image to add more layers of color. Make sure to lightly rewet it though so that you do not disturb the paint that has already dried.
Wplus9 Design i was using Aquarelle by Canson. It is to toothy not smooth. I will try one with a sheen. Thank you.
+Wplus9 Design Hi - Am I right in saying you actually used Distress water colour paper for this? Just double checking because I love the results you achieved and wanted to try the Distress product myself...
Thank you! Beautiful :)
Thank you!
Beautiful❤️
Just amazing and awesome...tfs
Thanks so much!
Beautiful, TFS .
Beautiful
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! ;)
Beautiful...wish the camera was closer to the image.
Perfect!
Very nice
You make this look SO easy, but I'm quite sure if I did this it would look something like one of those "Pinterest Fails." lol.... love it, though!
what kind of watercolors are you using tubes or what? I suspect they're tubes don't they dry out.
+Catherine Ruby If you click on the "more" link under the video she has a supply list of everything she used in the video. The brand of watercolors she used is Grumbacher. She names each color in the list. I looked for the "artists" grade from that brand but am only finding "academy" on Amazon (student grade). I did find something called "Grumbacher Academy Watercolor Paint Set of 12 Colors that has the term ""Artist Sketchbox Set" on the box for $34.99. That set offers 6 of the 7 colors she used in the video from the Grumbacher brand. All her links are to Dick Blick for single tubes, I think they are "affiliate links." (She used only one other color, that was not made by Grumbacher, and that is from Windsor and Newton (artist grade). Grumbacher also sells a "Finest" watercolor line that they market as "artist grade."
I picked up some watercolours about a month ago and I'm still too chicken to use them. After watching this video I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks.
You really should! You'll never know what you can do until you try. And once you just start having fun with it and playing around with different styles and techniques, you'll be surprised how fast you'll improve. 😀
👌
Gorgeous,,,lxx
Beautiful, but definitely not simple unless you are skilled at Water-Colour. 🙂
i keep watching this, maybe i should stop watching and start painting?
