Its funny how Kia got building a true luxury car right more so than Acura with its RLX! LOL

Great Review...that car seems impressive considering where Kia cars were back in the late 1990s...kind of hard to believe that this is the same company. IMO, the 2011 Optima signaled a new direction in the US market for Kia.

I'll never be on the market for this kind of vehicle, but it is interesting why the K900 is controversial. People buy luxury cars in part because they care about what others think. "The badge will put people off," a commenter posted. Shouldn't people just buy the product that feels right to them? I love the surge of premium Korean products because the inherent rebelliousness brings out the worst in some people who lack independent thought and care so much about what other people think.

Some friends those people have, right?

I think it would have been smart for Hyundai/Kia to branch off a luxury division, like Lexus is to Toyota, but they're still nice products!

I just don't get it. I kind of understand the Equus, as Hyundai is slightly more upmarket than Kia, but this K900 just doesn't make any sense. I would never spend $60k+ on a car from a company that also makes $10k subcompacts.

Great review Steve. I have been excited about the K900 and the new Genesis since I saw the first pictures. But I have to agree with the previous poster, they need to get their core lineup buttoned down. The K900 seems rushed. The fact that the wood on the console wasn't right, is evidence of poor QC. I think KIA and Hyundai would sell more cars if they sold these "high end" cars at a $35k level. They would bring in more buyers who are actively looking at their brand.

The K900 is a refresh of the K9 that came out 2 years ago. Rushed, this is not. Like Steve said, it could have been a pre-production model, and these media fleet cars are subjected to all sorts of abuse, so who knows where those defects came from.
Kia already sells the Optima and Cadenza in the mid 30s, and they already rank among the best in their class in most metrics, as do most of their vehicles. A high end lux car is the next logical step, and with the new Genesis platform finally available they can now place a product in the $40-50k range, though that's likely a few years off.

Equus or K900? To me, the K900 looks like a larger Cadenza with rear-wheel drive and the 5.0L V8.

maybe this one isn't defective. Our 2015 K900 VIP has been in the shop 29 of 55 days we've owned it since 3/9/15. The parking brake has a defect that makes the car shudder like you've been hit, when in reverse. It came back from Cottonwood Kia after being there over 3 weeks and the noise is worse, 2 paint gouges on the front hood, uninstalled trim loose on the floor, and wadded candy wrapper under the seat, and they put over 600 miles on the car, when the problem has only been backing up from a stop. We bought this car so my 100% combat disabled vet husband could travel with out pain, esp. on bumpy roads or longer trips. Its a beautiful car but our car and Kia service is a disaster. We see it more on the tow truck than we get to drive it. Our recent cars were Honda and a Toyota so we forgot how much of a nightmare a car can be when the warranty and service guarantees are just pieces of paper.

MindynMike I had this same car. got it used with almost 30k miles for 32k. had alot of problems myself. white leather just fell apart. dash looked like it melted, warped. ac compressor went out and the transmission had serious issues. I had it little over a month. they did take it back and put me in a 2016, new 200 miles. I leased this time. good thing I see these for 27k now. next year they will be a 18k car. the 2016 is a way better car in alot of ways. just to put it out there, I have 900 miles now and the soft close door on the driver side stopped working.

I wish Hyundai/Kia would focus on their core product lines first. They make good stuff, but not best in class. I would focus on making my core line of vehicles the absolute best in class before introducing niche luxury vehicles. Just my $0.02.

I seen an airbag cover on top of the dash, that's outdated as most manufacturers are doing a flush design... c'mon Kia.

K900 sounds like K9 sounds like canine which is a dog. Just not a good name. I think Kia should go for Stinger types of upmarket performance sedans. Make the Cadenza the family premium sedan. Make a bigger Stinger 2 their performance sedan to take on BMW's 6-series. Let Genesis have the ultra-lux sedan. The market doesn't need a Kia version of the G90. The Stinger is the car for Kia. Also, maybe Kia could go with a lux SUV to distinguish themselves that is sporty and looks like a refined Telluride. Because the Telluride is a huge hit. The two best Kias are the Stinger and the Telluride. The Optima may beat out the Camry in its next version, however. It's a nice auto and the 2021 Optima looks great.

This car will sale because no one is gonna buy 60k for a kia. Plus it's name (k900) sucks.

  • @vwmatt33
    @vwmatt33 10 років тому

This is the type of Kia you buy at the end of the model year. You buy at below MSRP, plus $7500 rebate and they give you the 3% holdback to just to get it off its lot. Or wait 18 months down the road and buy it as a 15000 mike used car at $39,995.
It looks nice but bland on the outside. As car get bigger in size it's hard to make them look like the price tag it demands. Kia should have stopped with the Optima. The Cadenza and K900 just don't cut it with Kia's design language. Hyundia got it right with the new Sonata and Genesis. They don't need the Equis. It's like pulling into the country club with Equis/K900. Everyone knows what it is. But you got it at Wal Mart.
How about just starting a new "higher-image" brand like the Japanese did in the 80's. It worked for them.
