Counterparts was such a huge album for Rush. It's basically when they quit the keyboards and went back to the basics, which they're still sticking to 16 years later. I love that album because I think it gave Rush new life...plus it's a great album.
I didn't know quite what to think of this song when I first bought this CD back in 93. But the bridge/chorus is so killer, it eventually won me over. Counterparts was a great Cd. Favorite track from that CD is "Cut To The Chase." I love "Double Agent" also.
Animate & Alien Shore both killer too. I love this song because it plays at being country/pop during the verses, but the chorus and flourishes are pure Rush. Neil's fills during the outro are nuts.
I like "Between Sun and Moon"First time I heard it, I thought "Holy crap, that sounds like The Who", in the middle of the song. I guess it was intentional. They played the song as a tribute to John Entwistle, the day after he died.
One of my top 10 favorite Rush songs. It does sound kinda like country....I first heard Counterparts on Rockline (I think). The entire band was there for the interview.Even Neil. (This was how i learned his name is pronounced "peert"---this interview.) They were promoting Counterparts, and at that point, the only songs I'd heard were "Animate" and "Stick It Out". Hearing "Cold Fire" in that Rockline interview was what made me want to buy the album. I like this video. pretty decent, considering what was available at the time to shoot it. Sounds good, too, even if it sounds like Al's guitar rig died midway through the last chorus.
I expect a whole lot from these guys. I set the bar really high, and no matter what, they always seem to pass well over it. I never can set it high enough for them. No matter what, Rush will always be considered one of the best. Not to mention Geddy is a sexy beast.
Songs that shoudn't be done by a female singer are 2112, Hemispheres, Nobody's Hero. a few songs from the intitial eponymous album, a few of the early Robert E. Howard-esque treatments, and that's just about it. LLP decides to go the UNIVERSAL route and it makes them stick out from all the rest.
Shit for a bootleg, the sound is great. Whoever did this recording did an awesome job. However the best band in the "Whole Damn World" being recorded helps out alot as well!!!
@wrinkleneckbass I like their Prog rock era way better than their newer stuff. Presto and RTB are awesome, though Counterparts was a bit too angst/Alt/grunge for me. At least T4E went back to the prog shit. So did S&A with the time signature switches and stuff.
myurp. can't swim in vqueous syrup, but on mythbusters, this is a fantasy swimming syrup. as compared to man's endurance. i'll be around when these idiot old rockers won't mount mt. evans with some slave to the hormone tumbler divice from Mythbusters open eye toothpicks pawnbrokers chumley bobblehead. cary grant in to kill a mockingbird. ua-cam.com/video/utl6Z86487w/v-deo.html
now i read somewhere that this is one of Neil's worst writing but in my opinion i think geddy had some input (even if its oh so minimum) because when ever he sings it and on the album it sounds like he can relate to the lyrics.
this song would be just as good live (in my opinion) if they didn't use recorded samples of geddy's voice it's so frustrating that they continue to do this on so many songs when they don't really have to It doesn't need to sound exactly like the recordded version.
Ged's voice sounds very cool here. But sometime after, it's totally shot out. I hate sayin' it cause I love my Rush - have since I was 11, I'm 54 now. But Geddy's voice did not sound good live after around 2014, or so.
Great guitar solo on the album version Meanwhile, Alex has failed to reproduce this amazing solo note for note when it came to playing it live. That never used to be the case.
It's art. Art is interpreted differently by different people. I'm sorry you've somehow been frustrated by one woman or another at one time or another. I'm sorry you've been made to feel desperate. Emotions are often times contradictory. Who wants to be let down or pushed down? IMHO the woman in question is merely standing up for herself--being honest, setting boundaries. Everyone has boundaries, even if his/her love is boundless. Seems reasonable to me. Anyway, that's my interpretation.
Every desperate, frustratet man's anthem as well.seriously, how can you think this is a song to confirm women in what they do? i think it is more to sum up all things that men cannot understand, as women often say the opposite of what they want or mean. Just don't disappoint me, you know how complex women are
I love rush you guys are my favorite band
That's by far my favorite country song!

Counterparts is their best album by far from the first track to the last.
Counterparts is the album that got me into Rush!

@Delgift I meant to say "clear as crap" usually bootlegs have terrible mixing, the vocals are perfectly EQ'd in this!

Hilariouse intro ,fantastic song.
Great

4:03 Neill "professor " rules.....never forgotten
I wish they got a female country-western singer to sing the female lines. Allison Krauss, k.d. lang, Reba McEntire, etc.
good song... Rush has quite a sense of humor.
she said, "This is not a love song. This isn't fantasy land."
ahah " were gona take a new direction...some nice wholsome country" Classic Rush humour
Very Very good

I was here in high school. You have any more?
That Alex critter, he’s got real promise ahead if he’ll buckle down and practice.
i dont think Alex gets enuf credit for his backing vocals. like his playing looks, his vocals sound. Effortless!

Yeah , he looks like is having a bad night .
