This was really magical. I clicked on this video just to watch a few seconds to get a sense of what Mary Pickford looked and acted like, but I ended up watching the whole thing. I really enjoyed the modern score. What a neat way to thread the present into the past. It’s amazing that we can just watch these films and be transported into the past, and yet the story is still intriguing and relatable. :)
Simply wonderful!! Its clear why Mary Pickford was considered the great star that she was. She was completely natural in this. (as were all the other actors as well). She dd not fall in to the grand gesturing and pantomime that many of this era did. a natural beauty too. Just perfect
Exactly my thoughts. Looks so natural. But how and why?
These restored 1912 Mary Pickford films are so good! They should be more well-known.
In my opinion, Mary Pickford was the most beautiful actress in Hollywood. She did not need to be flashy or have to dress sexy to portray her natural beauty.
I guess so. Astonishing.
I feel like this has been filmed in our days. What a good restauration!
One of the real bonuses of the internet is that these wonderful early films are preserved for all time. When you think what the public expects and demands now, so many of these stories were simple and spoke of common problems. We think we are all so sophisticated now but so much of modern cinema is vacuous and aimed at kids
I agree!
Such a wonderful little story, appreciate each other and your parents!!❤
This was heartbreaking at times. Excellent movie about people with genuine responses to life.
Thanks!
One of my favorite early Mary Pickford short films for Biograph! I love the way she looks at Henry B. Walthall at the wooden fence entrance in their first scene. Veteran stage actor W. Chrystie Miller plays Mary’s father and beautiful English born Madge Kirby is the friend taking the baby for a walk. Madge would make more films for Biograph including The Painted Lady (1912) as Blanche Sweet’s sister. Madge would later appear in numerous short comedies, especially with Larry Semon.
Such a sweet story ❤
Muito bom 🎉❤
The story was simple and lovely!
A lovely film with beautiful music.
I love this! She was so cute!
Such a nice simple story
Yes! So awesome to find this here. Thank you!
Wow amazing restoration!! also love the simplistic story , really no different then what we see today
She had old dad just like I did when I was that age.
Thank you.
Mary Pickford was a true beauty
Beautiful.
Maravillosa película, magníficos actores, restauración asombrosa.
I don’t know why but Mary’s acting, makeup and gestures et al here look so refreshing and much more natural than her later films esp. her first talkie Croquet (1929). Any thoughts?
Wow. I love her.
Amazing they have film of a baby in 1912. My first baby was born in 1978 and I have no 🎥.
I was thinking how strange it is to think if that baby were still alive, he would be over 110!
Hopefully he did live to see his senior years.
1922........crazy😮
Guy in the black beard was Lionel Barrymore.
Wow. So Drew Barrymore’s family history in show business goes WAY back.
Mary has been married three times. Far ahead of its time!
She was ahead of her time .
Her last to Buddy Rogers lasted 40 years!
Primeiro filme com a mary pickford vê se é bom
👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
❤❤
Henry B. Walthall !! I thought it was Owen Moore at first ...
Why was the upload of So Near, Yet So Far privated? Can we expect to see it up again at any point?
Hi John, We are remastering this film with a new score so please stay tuned!
@@elainaba Thanks for the info, can't wait!
👍👌👏😊❤️
je lis un livre en ce moment sur Mary Pickors "Hollywood boulevard", le début du cinéma muet...
what is the father´s actor name ?
Love that big plate of bacon.
Ela era tão linda......
1912年はタイタニックが沈没した年。まるでメアリー•ピックフォードはローズのようです。
Yes! Especially with that incredible, gorgeous, lace dress! I would love to find a copy of that dress for myself, not too expensive of course!💕
小津安二郎の映画を見ているようだった 素晴らしい
6:30 Who's that suppose to be? A random woman or a relative to the family?
The old man oughta been beat up....😂
The music doesn't fit ...
Lol Lionel Barrymore in that awful beard!
You have sharp eyes!
Lol I don’t miss anything with Lionel. Even way back then! 😅
MP was a true Catholic! Her talent was apparent and a gift from God I think she was the last of the true Christians in Hollywood!
She didn't approve of Joan Crawford, not good enough. Everybody knows Joan. Not many know Mary Pickford.. outside of being the old woman who snubbed Joan lol
Do you feel better now getting that stupid comment off your chest?
I didnt know that she snubbed Joan. I actually knew of Mary Pickford before Joan Crawford. Both are great in different ways
Considering Mary came from a poor background as well, that was rotten of her, I don't think Douglas Jr., cared, since Mary was his stepmom. I think his mom was still living when they got married.
I wonder how she felt about Joan?
