Been in Thailand for a couple of months now, living here long term. Might be ready to find someone to share life with soon. Good to hear you guys dispelling some of the stereotypes and explaining the landscape a bit from different perspectives. Also, I think you found yourself a keeper, Paul. You both seem to have good attitudes.
The video is deceptive. Nothing is debunked. 99.9% just want money. She is good actor. Convincing unless you know reality.
I think this video sugar coats the topic quite a bit. The fact is on Thai dating sites most of the women are looking for foreigners because they have money and can offer them a better life. This should not be a surprise to anyone. Also sometimes highly educated Thai women are also looking for money even if they have a job because they might be in debt or they want to pay off a family member's debt. I know this from personal experience.
Most Thai women actually prefer Thai men because of common culture, language, etc. And the smaller percentage that are looking for a farang it's for a better quality of life.

I think you're looking on the wrong dating sites, or are attracting the wrong kinds of girls for some reason.
This is no different from why 70-80% of women won't date someone shorter. Women tends to date and mate horizontally. Another reason you don't hear much about is infidelity among Thai men. What I want to point out from what you said and caution others about is that if a Thai woman wants money to pay off a family member's debt, that is a gigantic red flag. This is not normal from what you would considered a "good" Thai partner.

That was too generic for my taste. I miss the Thai flavor, that could have been anywhere in the world. Your girl seems nice but she is a bit shy to bring certain truths. As a suggestion, ask someone not close to you that can be more free and open with answering. For instance I miss her position towards supporting her parents, her long term views, her idea for retirement etc.
Despite my critique I still enjoy to see your story, from your perspective.
You should interview with Thai women who's married to Thai men or dating Thai men. How do they feel about dating or marrying foreigns. It's hard to get honest answers who are already dating or married to foreign.

Interesting perspective. You have a wonderful Thai girlfriend and she comes from a good place. Not all American women are the same and not all Thai women are the same. Some will take all your money and use you for money and others will not. Men who go to Thailand have a bad rep as well and it's not right to judge them for wanting to live there. I think social media has made a group of people look much more extreme than they appear to be versus what at average they are.

Oh I remember being suggested to go cafes and things to potentially find a guy that I would be interested in, but I noticed I would most likely have to travel to be in an area where I would want to date. I can think of a couple of places to go, but they’re hours away haha. So I completely agree with the traveling thing. For me I find that I’m traveling mainly because the things that I enjoy irl that aren’t online related aren’t near where I live which really sucks. It depends on where this Chinese woman was brought up. Mainland Chinese ( north, south, north east, city, village) American Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kongese, and Singaporean Chinese， Malaysian Chinese are all different.
