I'm Irish an Irish atheist. My country's education system is dominated by catholic run schools. Today, even in secular schools, there is education on religion, basically to celebrate cultural diversity. However, the central philosophies of religions are never discussed. No contemplation is encouraged. I think this is a big blind spot, basically similar to it being a social taboo to start talking about death at a party, even though it is the one certainty uniting all of us.
The reasoning for this is because once you get to heaven, you can only enjoy the fruits of what you accomplished in this life and you can no longer perform those good deeds. That's why we say that it's even better than all of heaven to do one good deed because you're still able to perform them
