Busting the myths and misinformation about feral cats.
Just because a cat is feral does not mean they can't be fabulous.
Befriend a feral. Ferals can be fabulous!

Ferals CAN be fabulous! A lot of "ferals" are just abandoned or lost, so they are friendly, and easier to deal with. That doesn't mean a true feral can't be turned - we did it. It took eight years! TyeGuy never came in, but he would accept our pets, and would sit with us. He lived in our backyard in a house we made, sheltered by our porch, cozy as can be❤️

Great job! Thank you for doing this! Just a little suggestion: try not to use swinging doors, bc then the moist will drop inside. Also if the cat goes inside, it will bring all the liquid from the door! Also, only use straw no hay or newspaper and no textile fabrics! Please don't get this comment wrong! Love that you help! We can all learn from each other!

Oooohh thank you!! This is the best video for me. It's not cold where I am yet either and I don't have anything but the tote and some old towels/clothes. This will work for Dexter 🙌🏾🖤🙌🏾

If you have cold winters (or just chilly even), I find that insulation material (the kind that looks like thick foil) works well if you cover the sides and tape it down well- basically pad the inner walls. Adding straw is good with it, but by itself it will keep the box warmer if you can't find straw (check local plant nurseries, landscaping places). I think its called just foil insulation, like the kind by Reflectix.

Good video. Sometimes people make these too long and complicated.

Glad to see you have a back door for an escape route. Cats don't like to feel trapped. Thankyou for helping them!

I make those too, I flip it over and under the actual tub I put down a cheap rubber back bathmat, that absorbs the cold from the cement, I use special outdoor animal heating pads and put a not-so-thick piece of fleece over that, and different pieces of fleece inside, over the top I put down (when it's super cold) a thick towel or another rubber back bathmat for insulation, and if it is going to rain I cover it all with one of those $3 plastic table cloths from Walmart, the seasonal ones with "flannel" backside. I really LOVE the flap idea I just cut a hole in each one, and when it's cold I put a piece of fleece over the hole so they can come in and out. You are so wonderful to help the feral guys, I do my best to help them also. Got food and water in the front and back, the 2 heated kitty huts are on my covered back porch and I also took a smaller Walmart tub and cut a bigger hole in it, that is where I put the front kitty's dry food so it stays dry in the rain etc.

We don't really have feral cat colonies like this in the UK. We have plenty of strays though and I've built a few shelters like this before. It's a good way of reuniting lost cats with their owners. Unlike feral cats, stray cats will usually just move in permanently at the first comfortable location they find with nearby food. If you leave some treats inside overnight and then check in the morning, you'll probably find the cat has not only eaten the treats but is now peering at you through the kitchen window with those "please let me in" saucer eyes.

Towels inside could easily be wet by rain, snow or cats body. Once it's wet, it will be ice-cold and make the cats body temperature down dangerously.

I used spray pheromones and set it by the food dish even though the dish was really empty. Just so the cat that I’ve been feeding will notice and feel calm about entering. I only have one entrance. And it’s on the side not on the ends. My first shelter and I padded it first with a super hard cardboard , then the foam you kneel on for gardening. Then a blanket that goes up & is tucked under the top of the container.

Thank you! I bought a similar tote and will be making my feral kitty his own crib. Love the kitties laying on top too.🤣🤣🤣
