  • Sonu Saber of Damdi village has become a champion of hand washing. Sonu thrives in the social acknowledgement of his peers because his story of change was selected by the community to be featured in the Most Significant Change (MSC) technique.
MSC has been used by UNICEF in India to monitor and evaluate behaviors in 4 key domains - breast-feeding, girls' education, hand washing and HIV AIDS.
MSC is a form of participatory monitoring and evaluation technique. The process involves collection of significant change stories emanating from the field and systematic selection of the most significant of these stories by panels of designated stakeholders in the community.
These panels are initially involved in 'searching' for project impact which includes collection of changes at the grassroots level, discussion on that by various people by reading the stories aloud and having an in-depth discussions about the value of reported changes.
