  • What is the LIFTER BIT?
The lifter bit works like a snaffle in that it has 1:1 pressure, but it also adds poll pressure. This makes it a great transition between a snaffle and a leverage bit.
The lifter prepares the horse to be finished. Use the lifter like the snaffle and go back and work the foundational exercises to get softness and control. Move the shoulders, hips, and ribcage. Pick up to a trot and a lope and ask the horse to be soft in all gaits. Begin to use your hands one-handed like you would with a leverage bit, and go back and make corrections as needed like you would in a snaffle - these two ways of being able to use the bit are what make it a fantastic transition.
If you want to give the lifter bit a try, you can find it here: kenmcnabb.com/shop/tack/bits/....
In part 3, we will talk about leverage bits.
Until next time, may God bless the trails you ride!

I just ordered one from Amazon this morning (because free shipping). Also chicks saddlery carries it. I think stateline tack does as well.

Or, you could just get out of the horse's mouth and not use it a bit. The bit is a tool that was invented for the time were cowboys did not have control of a horse but they could stay on thru anything. Modern horsemanship does not even need the bit. We don't run a bit and have not for many years we can do anything with the horse and job at all. We used to use bits all the time, but over the years and modern training, we found the bit is totally unnecessary. Now we look at the bit for horsemen that are still lacking in training skills. They need a tool to get what they want they still don't know how to train for what they want. All I am saying is there are many modern horsemen out in the world that do everything as well as this guy and even better and never put a bit in the mouth of a horse. The tool is a crutch that is a fact. It also causes pain and that is a fact it does not matter how light your hands are.
