another tip: work from light to dark. You can't lighten surfaces that are painted with watercolour pigments, but you can darken them. white can be achieved by leaving spaces blank on the white paper, or by adding in white details in acrylic paint.
agreeed :) one must always work from light to dark but 1 thing is it can be lightened , when one uses quiet a bit of water tey can sweep up some of the pigmet back into teh brush by oerforming a ceratin motion. but one always has to do liughtto dark or still will get messed up and its hard to lighten all the time and lightening can become uneven
I enjoyed your calm practical advice and would enjoy seeing videos of painting trees, flowers, especially bouquets, and landscapes. I’m stuck at home (69 years old) and have always wanted to do watercolors. Thank you!
Dear Johanna, thanks for your feedback! We'll really do some more watercolor videos in the next weeks. Landscapes and trees are a great idea! Stay safe!
Thank you. There is nothing more pleasing than a wife and husband being successful and giving back together. This video was good and informative. I love the examples given. Good stay near these two.
This is a great video: you cover 6 tips in 6 minutes! No unnecessary padding to make it too long just straight to the point. If you're an absolute beginner and you feel it was too fast, then you can learn what it is you need to look for next in more detail. Thanks for a good starting point 👍🏻
Incredibly lovely seeing natural looking people wearing casual and normal clothing! It works like receiving a warm and friendly smile and hello: welcome to a normal world! Thank you!
Dear Jane, thank you for your lovely comment. There are so many artist struggles and the process of creating can be very messy. When you decide to start painting you usually don't put your best clothes on. You don't need to because it's your process. You're showing up for yourself as your authentic self. I’ve been playing with watercolour for a couple of months now and every other tutorial I’ve found has been way too complicated, the techniques are the same but they were over explained and I got lost. Thank you guys for keeping it short sweet and informative, I look forward to coming back
I‘m just getting into watercolor but I‘ve found it really helpful to keep a paper towel nearby. It’s really easy to soak up the paint if you mess up, you can even dump water on a mistake and clear it almost entirely.
What a wonderful presentation ! Really I appreciate both of you. Not too much talking ! Nice background music ! Nice editing! I already subscribed. Thank you. Watched as a nice movie !
Great introduction that calmly and sympathetically covered the basics. I'm the future I'd like to learn how to tape a paper down, and how to work with light and darkness.
While these are good tips, I truly believe all watercolor is 'right' and there is never any 'wrong.' Watercolor can be realistic, abstract, or somewhere in between. When you paint with your soul there is no telling what will come of it. Whatever the end product, it is art and it is perfect!
Thank you for this lovely presentation. I have painted in watercolours on and off for many years, but lately am finding that the paint is drying around twenty percent lighter in its intensity than when applied. I'm fairly sure I didn't have to exaggerate the intensity more than ten percent in past experience. I use Arches paper and Winsor and Newton artist quality paints which have always been reliable. I seldom use wet in wet because I work in the open air and cannot dry the paper artificially. I like the accidental effects of bleed across the colour washes - your example was beautiful. Watercolour cannot be completely controlled; and the little accidents create moments of magic
If you are able to teach us how to watercolor to pass the time it would be amazing! I've always admired people who can paint and have great artistic skills. This Christmas I got a whole bunch of watercolor paint and paper as presents and I would like to learn how to actually use them. Thank you again for taking the time to reply and ask the learning preferences it means alot especially because others would say they would teach and never did. :)

Glad the video helped you Bhawna! Yeah, you can use canvas! Mind two things: the edges of the color fields will not be as crisp as on paper and the paint will need much longer to dry. But it’s also a great medium to try out!
I am a beginning watercolorist so I appreciate step-by-step tutorials. With one year experience, I still have trouble with applying the right amount of water.
Hey Andrea! Glad to hear you picked up watercolors. Yeah, the right amount of water is something you learn by doing. Eventually, you’ll get the feeling for it. A good idea is to practice only that. Take one color and make test it out how it behaves with different amount of water applied.

Hi! Thanks for your video. I recently started watercolouring and did not even realize until you showed the painting techniques that how much water you add to the paint also matters. It was really helpful. 🙂
This is an interesting video, linescapes is something I have never seen done. The problem I have is I want to hurry and finish a painting once I get started. I need to have more patience and take things slow. It takes a little time to develope your lines with short strokes is the best.
I know right?! I love watercolors because it has steps that you need to work on very fast and some... the drying part that takes longes. I take my time when the painting is drying and make a plan how I will continue/plan the next steps or you can work on a parallel painting. You can also start with smaller paintings and motives that are not so demanding. After a while, you will develop more confidence and motivation to paint longer.
