Could that channel 5 error be dur to tape path misalignment issues? I skipped some parts of the video (sorry) so I didn't catch if you cleaned the head and checked alignment.
No, it's got a completely dead channel. Tape path issues would knock the rest of them out. DCC error correction works well enough that it'll handle one dead channel, but any errors above that it wouldn't be able to correct for. Had the dead channel been working, most of my tapes likely would have played with no dropouts. But my tapes are used ones with condition issues and the player has a dead channel, thus the dropouts.
@@Oklawolf I have a fully restored dcc portable player I really like it alot and have you thought about using the dcc musuem to restore any of these maybe you can sell one after repair?
Nope, I'm not that lucky. The Optimus uses a Panasonic transport, this one is all Philips. The heads don't interchange either... the read/write board needs to be programmed to the head.
Nice video! Once i had dcc deck to repair... it was nightmare, also leaked smd caps and much more stuff - as always someone been before me. In the end it gone away from me as working device, but i never took more of them on my bench after that.
@@Oklawolf mee too :) i have got some nice mz n1 and mz n10, both of them needed some service, but in the end they are now working perfectly fine. I love md technology and how it sounds :)
Can’t win ‘em all! Interesting statement about Beethoven in one of the ads!
Don't even dust it off lol.

52:13 Where did you get the fast wind idler gear ⚙️ from? Link?
And is it the same gearing for the Philips DCC 600?
@@UberSynth they’re on eBay. Same transport as the 600, I believe.
is the head block in the Optumus compatible with this unit? If so, you should swap 'em and see what happens. 😀

Funny how on some segments of the video you sound like a totally different person talking :P
I'm 6' 5" - sometimes early in the morning my voice drops a few octaves.
Nice video!

I don't think I'll be buying any more, at least for a long time. I like Minidisc better already.

Next video is my MDS-E10, and I already have two more MD machines coming from Japan: Marantz CM-6200 and Victor XU-D400 Mk II.
Nice haul, congrats, my home deck is a lowly MDS-JE320. I got agood deal so I pounced on it.@@Oklawolf
