SWANAGE RAILWAY: Winter Warm Up-Sun 07/01/2024

A record of a lovely mini gala held over the weekend of the 6th/7th January 2024 with plenty of action featuring steam locomotives: LSWR Drummond T3 4-4-0 No.563, Bulleid "West Country" Pacific 34028 EDDYSTONE and diesel locomotives, Birmingham RC&W Type 3 Bo-Bo D6515 LT JENNY LEWIS RN (later Class 33 33012), Class 33 (33/1) 33111 (formerly D6528). Each locomotive took a turn on a freight working. The Sunday turned out to be a mainly sunny but rather cold day.

Excellent capture of a brilliant little gala from Swanage Railway 😊 I was stood at the first window behind the 34028 & 563 last train double-header, it was an awesome sight with the flames and sparks coming out of 563 especially as it ploughed through Herston Halt station 😊 Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Brian for watching. Yes it was a brilliant mini gala and we were very fortunate the weather was very good though cold. I am glad you enjoyed being behind the two locomotives on that final train and the firework display was quite spectacular.

Well it is a lovely line with very nice scenery and pleasant staff plus the Swanage Railway always have some excellent locomotives working there. I hope you can go again soon.

I took part in the winter gala on the Severn valley railway a day before that and I’ve caught up with two locos withdrawn and that’s the flying pig and taw valley and also caught the stanier mogul with the 1990s number of 2968 check it out

OK. It sounded like a really good gala and the SVR had not tried a winter gala before. I am glad you saw the Flying Pig and Taw Valley as they won't be around for a long while.

The SVR will probably do that again as well so there are some events even in deep winter.
