So technically they are just about hypersonic missiles and as such difficult to intercept. However, militarily and economically these missiles only make sense with nuclear warheads. Can someone with real knowledge please explain to me in layman's terms why Ukraine can not be given something like the iron dome? Not interested in couch commanders please, I really want to understand it.
It's actually really simple. I'm no expert, but I'll be entirely honest with you even though I'm anti-western on the issue of both Ukraine and Israel 1) Only Israel manufactures these systems. They have 15 RADARs and batteries of Iron Dome launchers, and whatever they may have surplus is intended only for one customer - themselves. Between that and obligations with other countries like the US and Azerbaijan, filling in an additional request from Ukraine would possibly exceed their capacity to produce systems for other customers. 2) Same goes for the Tamir interceptor missiles, which have to be produced and allocated in sufficient numbers to repel the expected threats - adding the requirement to attempt to repel Russian missile and drone attacks would place an extra burden on the manufacturer for these missiles, which they may not be able to take on. 3) Iron Dome specifically is a shorter ranged system meant only for intercepting relatively slow projectiles (up to around mach 3) coming in from relatively high altitudes. The area covered by an Iron Dome battery is therefor relatively small and not suited to low-altitude missiles that can maneuver around the batteries. Ukraine is a BIG country - like, REALLY BIG, especially when compared to Israel - and so it's a lot harder to defend that territory with a similar number of systems as what Israel has. Given that the biggest form of damage that Russia utilizes is cruise missiles (just like the US), they can fairly easily slip between RADAR stations and remain undetected when flying at low altitude 4) Vulnerability to ballistic missiles and other high-velocity weapons. Iron Dome has a very respectable interception rate against slow speed drones and rocket shells of the like that Hamas use, but like said in point 3 they have an upper limit of the speed of the projectile they can intercept. General rule of thumb, an air defence missile can at max intercept a missile going at 65-70% of the speed it goes at. 70% of 1200m/s is 840m/s, which is simply not enough to stop the Iskander ballistic missile that Russia operates, or any of their hypersonic weapons (that they've used against Patriot systems before) - those typically go at around mach 6-10 when they're about to hit something, just not enough time for the Iron Dome RADAR to react or for its missile to maneuver against the attack. Believe me, THEY HAVE TRIED to intercept Kinzhal's, Iskanders etc with Patriot launchers in the past, and it has not worked.
@@AdotLOM Thank you very much for this information - now I can understand it better (and stop being angry at Israel for not sharing). The way you have explained it makes total sense now. How I wish all this senseless madness could stop.
I don't know who this guy is and what his credentials are, but obviously, he has no understanding of Israeli politics. I am Israeli. I never supported Netanyahu. Quite the opposite: I would be thrilled to see him overthrown for good. Yet the claim that Netanyahu is capable of diverting attention from himself by deciding to strike Iran is utter nonsense. If Khamenei wants an attack, he can just give the order. If Putin wants an attack, he can just give the order. But unlike Iran or Russia, Israel is not a tyranny. So if Netanyahu wants an attack, he needs the consent of many other entities: the government, especially the war cabinet, especially the minister of defense (who is a strong opponent of Netanyahu), the chief of staff, and probably other senior officials in the defense establishment. Without their authorization, the attack is a no-go. More importantly, since the IDF heavily relies of conscripts, he needs the consent of the people who are being mobilized! Many of them can evade active duty and there is little that can be done about it. So when Israel initiates a military operation, rest assured, it has a wide internal support. If anything, Netanyahu is notorious for his hesitancy and reluctance to make tough decisions. For years he has been feeding Hamas loads of cash in the hope of avoiding a military confrontation. The intolerable situation with Hezbollah in Northern Israel has been dragged for nearly a year pretty much for the same reason. In fact, local media report that the IDF had to talk Netanyahu into the elimination of Nasrallah. Blaming Netanyahu (or giving him the credit) for Israel's recent actions is nothing short of ridiculous.

Good closing comment. There's an alternate and very unlikely reality where Iran maybe would use the current situation to rethink its position and re-engages with the world. So, instead of committing entire populations of multiple countries (including their own) to decades more poverty, economic misery and suffering, they could be throwing in the towel and turning a page here. The IRA managed to do that in Northern Ireland. The Basque conflict kind of became non violent too. It's not impossible to move on from deep divisions. But it requires true leadership. And I don't see that on either side. War is the easy choice. IMHO the most effective way to counter Israel for Iran would be to be more reasonable than them. Take away all the excuses for economic sanctions to exist and find a way back to economic prosperity. Win win for Iran. But that requires a humility and wisdom that I don't think the current Iranian leadership is capable off. But I'd welcome them proving me wrong. All this war mongering just helps the hard liners on both sides to stay in power. Don't blame Israel for this, blame Khamenei. He's been bankrolling the guns, rockets, etc. It's his policy of shielding weapons and warriors with civilians that is designed to fuel the outrage against Israel. None of this is accidental. It is all intentional. Especially the mass casualties. And of course the whole reason Netanyahu is still in power is those rockets being fired at Israel without much hope of a military victory but with the full intent of provoking the exact hard line reaction. Except Iran is now getting a bit more of that than they bargained for perhaps. Both sides are guilty here but who cares who is more guilty or right at this point? It has no practical relevance. At least one of them would have to back off for this to end. Back to "normal" and resupplying rockets to non state actors like Hezbollah is not a plan for peace, it's a plan for this to continue endlessly. One can hope but I think this is going to be a lost generation in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, the Westbank, Syria, Yemen, and whoever else is involved in this prolonged proxy war. Israel will be fine economically.
Not a very good analysis. Iran attacks on Israel is not due "internal pressure", infact the Iranian missiles and drone strikes are not very popular in Iran, and are done to show to their proxies that they are not completely useless against Israel. Additionally, no one forced the Iranians to attack Israel with nearly 200 ballistics aimed at major civilian population centers, they did it themselves in retaliation to attacks carried out far away from Iranian soil. You can have your criticism of Netanyahu's conduct and motives, but in this case you cannot in good faith claim that Netanyahu's retaliation promise is not justifiable.

Can someone with real knowledge please explain to me in layman's terms why Ukraine can not be given something like the iron dome? Not interested in couch commanders please, I really want to understand it.
The size maybe. 8000 square miles vs 600,000 square miles
It's actually really simple. I'm no expert, but I'll be entirely honest with you even though I'm anti-western on the issue of both Ukraine and Israel
1) Only Israel manufactures these systems.
Given that the biggest form of damage that Russia utilizes is cruise missiles (just like the US), they can fairly easily slip between RADAR stations and remain undetected when flying at low altitude
4) Vulnerability to ballistic missiles and other high-velocity weapons.

And Iran doesn't know when or how or where Israel will strike!
Problem is one retaliation leads to another retaliation like a chain reaction until some very bad thing would happen.
Israel will win their security and make sure Oct 7 won't be repeated.

Pro pally bs
That's the problem with academics: they have such a twisted and complicated thinking. But the academics also said that the true explanation is always the simple one. Even Jesus said something similar about complicated and twisted words: from the Evil One they are...
It's a little late to be worrying about retaliatory strikes.
You can have your criticism of Netanyahu's conduct and motives, but in this case you cannot in good faith claim that Netanyahu's retaliation promise is not justifiable.
jesus. you need to educate yourself... like a lot. go watch other news other then propaganda.. and read a bit of history other then watching Hollywood movies 😂🤣
