Sunday evening, BFD A-Shift was dispatched to the 8100 block of Lee Road 252 for a reported residential structure fire. The caller was reporting the residence was struck by lightening, and was now fully engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a single story residential structure with heavy fire showing through the roof, and throughout the structure. Firefighters were advised that everyone was out of the structure upon arrival. Firefighters began a defensive attack due to a roof collapse, and transitioned to an interior attack to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were met with many difficult challenges due to the severe weather that was ongoing during the incident. The fire was brought under control approximately two hours after the dispatch. One occupant was evaluated by EMS on the scene. The cause of the fire was due to a lightening strike to the residence. The structure was a total loss.
Beulah Fire Department responded with four apparatus, four personnel, and were on scene for four and a half hours before returning to service. Salem Volunteer Fire Department, Smiths Station Fire Rescue, Lee County EMA, EAMC ETS, and Lee County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene to assist.
