Wait, if Dwarves are born of stone, that means I can build my own dwarf. And why stop there? I can build hundreds of dwarves in a single day.
I can't blame the player, for if they were able to break the DM's version of the game in a matter of minutes from reading the rules, it just shows how broken the rules were and how badly designed the game was.
You know what I just realized? The idea of a race of dwarves being made from stone is a horrible idea. I've already mentioned what that means I would have the power to do. If there is a entire society referring to me as a "god", that very moment, I would die. I would die the exact very way that is the real reason why dragons die when they reach a certain age. You know, when the current number of Dragon Gods said
"No! No more! There are enough already."

This video has made me reconsider every “combat monster” character I’ve ever encountered. We always dismiss them saying “they never participate in the game, they just do t contribute until combat starts, then they throw themselves into it messing up everyone’s strategies”. We never considered that maybe those characters are clinically depressed, trying to get themselves killed, and we haven’t properly appreciated the masterful roleplaying their players are doing.
As someone who likes playing combat monsters, sometimes I tend to back away from roleplaying a bit in order to let other characters shine. Not to say I don't roleplay myself, but sometimes it's fun to not be in the spotlight.
Well sometimes, they just really enjoy recklessly attacking everything they see. But that is also a possibility sometimes
I mean, my go-to combat monster is a level 14 beast that can one-tap a Solar with nothing but a +2 heavy crossbow, so the party typically calls on me when it's time for boss fights, and that's my entire RP lmao

That was actually what one of mine was built around. Was a blacksmith who’s family got killed by mages raiding his village. Became a soldier hoping to die in a war but kept surviving until the war was over and spent the rest of his time as an alcoholic town guard. Got roped into the adventure after capturing one of the other players breaking into a house.

@@MaxPower-ke5rq Tbf, his motivation is to find motivation, and a drive to find something that doesn't fill him with a sense of depression for not being a challenge. (Until he met his true match. King in PvP (gaming).)

Favorite character I had that broke a one-shot was my Human Fighter-Artificer. DM ruled that dual wielding shields gets you dual shield AC bonuses. Eldritch Knight for Shield spell, heavy armor, and Protection fighting style. Artificer infusions to get +1 on both my shields. Artificer to get Shield of Faith and Sanctuary spells as well. Human Variant Feat gave me War Caster so I could use Shocking Grasp as a taser shield
I didn't get hit for once for the entire one-shot, and barely pushed out any damage. DM threw a high level fiend at us (well above our levels) because he was really curious if he could even hope to match my stupid build. Kept the team alive with my Protection fighting style (impose disadvantage on attacks against teammates next to you with a shield), and still didn't get hit.
What a really fun and really stupid build
A complete embodiment of the "Stone Wall" character type.

I wish there was an official rule that let you wield two shields and have both count for your AC. Fire Giant Dreadnoughts can do it, after all.

I love Eric the Sad Dwarf. I also can't help but imagine that everything he does/says is in the same tone and enthusiasm of Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
You know the trope of having some ancient powerful civilization? That empire is actually just the Kingdom of the Playtesters
And anything that has changed inbetween forgotten secrets, poweful techniques only remembered in a diminished form or improved recipes for cheap bread.

@@MaxPower-ke5rq I think I only made a reference to RPGs and how it would look if OP skills, items and so on were kept, but diminished (balancing, indicated by: "anything that changed inbetween"). Except for the economy of food, because in it wasn't important in the playtest.

7:18 DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON GIANT SNAKES! one time in our campaign when we were facing a small army in a colosseum, our wizard gave the fighter a potion that turned him into a hydra, But i got one that turned me into a giant snake only...even when my character thought it WOULD be a hydra! A tiamat worshiper mind you, got kicked into the dirt and killed pretty quick THE INDECENCY! *yirbel lives!*
Love that the snake was called a danger noodle.

Well, I mean... This system probably didnt have half of the non atributte damage sources Maple has...
Well if you have all consuming shield only at that point you didnt need str lol
this system isn't even *_REMOTELY_* near as broken as the game system in bofuri, both in terms of extreem cases like maple being able to dish out more damage with stat-irrelevant attacks than literally the best dps character in the game can do while sitting at over twice her level and in more general terms where characters that engage in combat less effectively get exponentially more skill gain+progression out of it.
also none to happy about awarding unique soubound perpetually-current-progression utterly overpowered items to the first person to clear each dungeon and unique UTTERLY overpowered skills to the first person to do a certain thing a certain way, I actually really like the idea of rewarding a more adventerous playstyle but good god is that specific implementation ever a bad idea.
well the Dm sure got the play testing they needed with Eric the Sad.
I don't know why, but I can only imagine Droopy's voice coming from this guy, and that made everything funnier for some reason.

I once had the pleasure of playtesting a Wild West-themed homebrew game system made by a player in one of my groups (who sadly no longer plays with us). It was a neat system which made for some fun combat and roleplay situations, and I got to make a light-hearted, in-character jab at the creator for somehow not including shotguns in a Wild West game system.

This reminds me of another story I saw (NOT MINE, CREDIT TO WHOEVER IT IS) about someone nicknamed Eric The Generic Cleric. He never healed or casted spells, and constantly argued about his position because he either was too squishy to be in the front or missing out on the action. The one time he casted a spell he charged the party gold for it

It was a playtest one shot and the player activelly picked the slot of the "I'll break this, so you can found where to adjust" tester. Once this problem is dealt with they Will probably change characters.
my friend is just as chaotic as i am and he's making a ttrpg system. When i offered to try and break it for him he was just as thrilled about it as i was!!
Still working on it but we'll be playing some time this year and we can't wait!!

One of the best stories so far.
Played with a DM that allowed you to take a maximum on all dice plus 1 roll for crits. My warlock's Eldritch smite + great weapon master feat ended that rule.
He made a world where dwarves are Discworld Trolls, except the whole “gets dumb in heat due to silicon processor brain”.

Breaking a Homebrew Magic system?
Oh I did that.
the Magic system has some 40+ rules of magic
I Broke it down so far that A character I designed would have effectively unlimited Magic and be so decentralized they would be effectively immortal until the planet itself died.
the Maker actively was trying to trip me up but I created work-arounds for every challenge.
he had to finally admit defeat and say I have Designed a character that can rival the GODS in his universe.

I am actually working on a custom Pen & Paper RPG in the vein of D&D, based on the Phantasy Star Online series' entries. I fully expect and request that people try to break it during it's "beta" phase so I can rebalance it effectively. I'm also writing a custom variant of the PSO setting, since
A: The series has created multiple universe/timelines anyway,
B: I want creative control of the tone and feel of the universe (PSO2 is amazing, but way to over-the-top anime compared to what I want),
and C: I decided to set it in a version of our universe so I can easily make excuses for people making references to real life.
I only ran a horror theme island once which didn't last long because the group i was in either got killed off/ killed each other off/ or got quickly demotivated to actually look for some clues instead opting to lounge about in the town I had built to tell on a mix of magic and technology, seriously, one zombie group that couldn't even do damage to them and they quickly wanted out of that campaign I was still mostly planning, I mean really armor that was made to withstand missiles and one of them with magic runes to turn their skin as tough as steel couldn't even really beat those zombies and I had gone easy on them to warm up their coordination and team work but instead opted to blast each other with microwaves and plasma cannons setting fire to an already dead forest.
That sounds like a fun character to play!!!

40 pages? I'm in a homebrewed 3.5 game with 24 handouts for new/changed rules; 46 handouts for gods and races, all with relating rules; and 25 other worldbuilding handouts.
To be fair, though, my DM has been running multiple games in his world (with breaks and group changes) for several years.
Pathfinder's knowledge domain is broken as all hell. Basically just touch something if you don't know what it is and you get a free knowledge check against it. Makes homebrew monsters really easy to fight.

I did something like this, but it was a bladesinger wizard. She had an armor class regularly so high that few enemies were able to hit her without a crit!

I think this sort of play testing is exactly what the creator needed. If you can break it, it needs fixing, right? Also, it sounds like a lot of fun to play with, actually, watching this depressed alcoholic lumber(butt?) through the game, just looking for anything to be actually interesting enough to break him out of his funk.

We had had a guy in a party that made a paladin / barbarian who had smite rage and recklessness who also use it who wield a two-headed magical holy battle axe that also did a extra holy damage on a Target when hit have you ever seen a undead beholder turn to red mist in the beginning of the round I have it's beautiful my friend roll two natural twenties it was beautiful.

I playend in a pathfinder oneshot where my character broke the game. His name was Kraigor, a primitive warrior wielding a giant spear whilst mounted on Razorfang, his sabertooth companion. Whist building his stats/class i stumbled by accident on a Rage-Lance-Pounce build.. At the end of the oneshot my DM was happy i played it because he had overstatted his enemies way to hard. So Kraigor saved the party and was forever banned from the game again. Kraigor was a more silent and nice guy who cared for his partymembers with a burning passion. He would also say things like : when the giants roar, they can be heard. When a player asked wat he said he would say that the proverbs of his people translate really poorly.

Balance and homebrew? Two things that seldom go together for obvious reasons...
Those reasons being the temptation to give one's self a advantage.
@@rachdarastrix5251 I think that is less the reason as a good system is hard to break as opposed to most homebrew which tends to be broken due to a lack of game design experience and knowledge inherent in most. A good test is to read what homebrew items a DM has created to see how unbalanced they are and most do not disappoint with how really bad they are at even this.
A good system can allow a player to give themselves several advantages and not get out of hand. A truly great system can put out a ton of optional material that when used, won't break the game because it is all balanced.
That is one problem with the current edition, 5th edition, in that it does no have a balance mechanic as nothing really has a penalty to counteract the bouses so much as everything is just advantages. DMs learning form this system are inherently doomed not to learn how to balance let alone limit advantages.

@@rachdarastrix5251 Only if the edition you use has a lack of options or the DM chooses not to use the optional material that is available to them due to their own personal hang ups.
DMs need to learn how to play the game how it is intended to function and understand why it is designed that way before they try modifying the game and butchering any semblance of balance that might have existed. Most fail at this with the expectant results being a broken and unbalanced version of the game.
There are others that want to modify the game for selfish reasons to allow them to do something that they normally cannot. This is not in an attempt to spice up the game, but an attempt to break the rules just so they can be happy and it is just another form of cheating. Everytime I hear someone homebrew a change for a particular character's benefit, like the treant from the last story being able to cast goodberry on their own fruit despite the treant not being of the appropriate species.
@@craigtucker1290 Couldn't have said it better my self. In terms for those of you who live on earth it is kinda like working on a car. Every model has a maintenance manual specific to its brand. Before you decide to do maintenance you need to read the instructions to get proper modification ideas. You can't just go "This is my first time seeing this brand so I automatically know how to upgrade it. Durhurhur I have a brain."
