  • After nearly a week of false starts and confusion, South Sudanese opposition leader Riek Machar finally arrived at Ethiopia's Gambela airport on Saturday to fly to Juba to take up his position as vice president, theoretically ending the country's two-and-a-half year civil war. But a series of administrative disagreements with the rival Juba government of president Salva Kiir has prevented his journey, throwing the success of the long hoped-for peace process into doubt.

His narration and creativity are the best! The most brave and professional journalist I ever came across

Whenever I hear the word rebel it just confuses me. The word rebel itself sounds evil to me, but in this case its a good thing because they are rebelling against something bad? Im so confused

+Frostiee Well since a rebellion is against a government and in a lot of these places the government holds controls over the media, most of the time a 'rebel' or 'rebellion' is emphasised to be negative and therefore evil.
      TL;DR: Against government=EVIL

Everything has a positive impact to some, a negative to others. One cannot simply take absolutes and apply them to groups.

+Frostiee Nelson Mandela was a rebel leader. Rebel is not a qualitative word of good or bad. There are evil rebels & really good rebels. Germans who were trying to kill Hitler were rebels, it's defined by ones politics.

Vice at the heart of the (in)action. Good story but it would be nice to hear the other side of this, have a bit of background info or find out why Riek Machar and his staff can't just pay $500 a piece for one-way tickets on Ethiopian Airlines and fly from Gambela to Juba. As is, this isn't really worth posting to youtube.

the reason why riek machar isn't allowed to go back to juba is because the south sudanese government found out he's been collaberating with the ethiopians to overthrow the south sudanese government.
they had to kick him out because he is a very bad presence in south sudan. not only is he destroying the south sudan and it's government, he is getting outside help from the ethiopians to do so.
the south sudanese government see riek machar and the nuer rebels as sellouts to the ethiopians. therefore they must be kicked out of the country

there is a good reason why riek machar is not allowed to go back to south sudan
the reason why he is in ethiopia is because ethiopia is funding the nuer rebels to destablize the south sudanese government. nuer rebels get military and intelligence support from the ethiopian government. this really pisses off the dinka government in south sudan because the nuer rebels now got support from ethiopia.
riek machar, leader of nuer rebels, was caught collaberating with the ethiopians by the south sudanese government and was blocked from going back to south sudan because he got the ethiopians to help the nuer rebels fight the south sudanese government.
riek machar has no place in south sudan. if he is going to collaberate with ethiopia to destroy the south sudanese government, he and his nuer rebels should stop causing so much violence in our country and go back to his ethiopian friends.

Dude the uneasy feeling you have is showing, to be honest if I was you I would also be feeling very uneasy due to the fact you are on a country in a violent civil war, you are English and white which means money and hostage taking. I hope all goes well and you have a safe return!
