  • Let's head back down the rails in Part 4 of the ABANDONED Erie Railroad. This location takes up back to Part 1 where we continue past the stone culvert to see where the Abandoned tracks end and what lies beyond them. I also made a brand new discovery along this section which may entail a revisit. So come along with me for another Abandoned Rails Adventure. Enjoy

Carnegie Steel is in Pittsburgh. ET means it's from the Edgar Thomson plant which made rails for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Carnegie sold to JP Morgan which turned into US Steel in 1901. The Edgar Thomson plant is still in operation. 🤓

Andrew Carnegie originally owned the steel plant the early 20th century multi millionaire business tycoon. It was later sold to JP Morgan and US Steel as previously mentioned. Interesting info on the abondoned Park and the Golf Course. It always saddens me to see abondoned property. Ofcourse I love the stone culverts and am fascinated how some parts of the rail line has virtually no vegetation. I've been trying to catch as many of your videos as possible. My life is extremely stressful caring for my mom who has really become much worse and my work which is as well. But as always I appreciate your efforts to keep us entertained. Great video Jay! Thanks again so much! 😊

Tip; when trying to read something etched, like iron or stone, Carry a piece of white chalk with you and go over it firmly with the chalk and you will be able to read it clearly.. I use to do this with very old grave stones.
You would have had no problem reading the railroad rails..

Cool video. I'm just reading a book about the history of railroads in America and was fascinated by the chapter about the Erie Railroad, which is how I stumbled upon your video. Fun fact: the railroad used the standard track gauge of 4 feet and 8 1/2 inches for NY and OH. But when it went through Erie, PA, they used a 6 foot gauge. This was terribly inconvenient for travelers but a boom for the city of Erie. After all, you've got to eat, shop, and stay somewhere while waiting for the next train. When the Erie RR decided to use a uniform gauge for the entire route, the mayor of Erie hired a glorified goon squad to violently stop railroad workers for changing it. Really interesting history.

I really love all the stone work on all those old tunnels. Some of that stone work is absolutely beautiful. I have been watching videos of Railroad motorcar excursions. Wouldn't be cool to find enough abandoned railroad line to clean up and dedicate to only riding railroad motorcars. Lol...well find enough money too. Lol. Riding thru different scenery like what is on that line would be cool. Enjoyed it. Thank you for the walkabout. ✌

The exit of the damed stone culvert has caused the water to seep through the left side you can see a crack going up to the top of it on the lhs.
The owner should remove the dam and repair the culvert as it won't take long for this face to fall, block it and cause a total collapse.
It will cost more to fix, when it has collapsed.
Thanks for the video I enjoy tracing old railways and canals.

Hi Jay, how bizarre seeing those water droplets behind the ice like that, I've never come across that before. It would be really cool to go through that culvert with the metal detector in the Summer, you never know what you might find, you should make some metal detecting video's. Jay if you look on a laptop/tv screen at 44:51 you can see there is some kind of opening going under that overhang of rock as there is nothing to cause that shadow if it was just the rockface, it definitely goes in but I can't see how far. I loved the photographs you took and I loved this last part of the adventure. I sent you a private message on facebook btw, I think you will love the location I found. Jay,
Based on the trees growing between the rail, you could take a core sample of the largest one you see and get some idea of when it was abandoned.
Isn't there a Carnegie steel foundry in Pittsburgh and wasn't owned by Carnegie who used to be with PRR?
So his company manufactured those rails. Cheers,
