Loic had the brake rotor cover as well. Shout out to “Ghosty Ben” : thank you 🙏 And what a great summary Ben (and shout out to whoever Will the tech person is 🎉) 😊
discovery+ wanting us to pay extra for a different broadcast (presumably no ads), so we could actually see the runs of Aaron Gwin and Danny Hart (yes, these were the two runs, plus a couple more that we missed, and it wasn't random, as the ad brakes were only a few minutes apart - they knew exactly what they were doing. Plus PB not showing Danny's crash...) is fucking disgusting. Putting ads in a broadcast, that you're already paying for is bad enough, but keeping the ads in the replay, and not pausing the actual broadcast is ridiculous.
I love those Videos. Did I miss it or didn't Ben say any word about Wyman crashing over the line and still getting 3rd. Also no talk of May Alran. But I guess there was a lot to cover with this race.
Mentioned Luke and showed some footage from his run, but didn't show or talk about his crash. Talked about every other top 3 rider in every category, but no mention of Max's winning run (despite showing a few seconds of it without naming him). Strange.
I actually do not Believe what Louis said. Top section was still very wet, he knew from Finn that steep section Is already soggy. He pushed top section, to be able to ride safe down the soggy part. And his coach just confirmed that he was up enough to get down safely before Amaury.
Loic is much faster through motorway and flatter sections because of how strong he is. He can get a lot of speed pumping turns and rollers. I'm sure the electronics on his ohlins suspension also play into these strengths by stiffening up in these sections.
Top and bottom are very different, the top is more shale, past the treeline it's clay, the top stays harder with a bit more grip, the hard part up top is visibility because you can't see the small bumps and holes.
Like the ones used on motorcycles back in the day. Keeps out the mud and possibly keeps the rotors warmer so you’d have a similar brake feel throughout the run? Just me speculating.
i am confused. 10:00 I thought it was highly illegal to tell the rider if he was up or down in time. I'm not sure but i think aaron once told a story of someone who used an umbrella (open=up, closed=down) to signal it to riders and they got disqualified. I know it is hard to prrof but loics coach definetly did something there
Thanks Ben. UCI needs to really be a "world" championship not mostly in France. Go to Whistler, have a U.S stop, etc. Congrats to Bruni but I don't believe him, he knew, coach told him he had it just finish. Yeah, that is race smart but a let down not going for the win.
Isn't there a rule about the team not being able to communicate with the rider during a run? I'm sure I have heard that somewhere. Have a dig in the rule book ben!
I just had a dig in the rules myself (cos it's been annoying me since the race). Rule 4.1.038 the use of radio links or other remote means of communication with the rider is forbidden. Except in world cups. Modified in 2023. I guess the wording was changed with the WBD take over. Oh well I don't think anyone would have complained anyway!
@pinkbike Trek World Racing tried to use in-run info from staff to riders to their advantage back when Justin Leov raced for them. They quickly stopped as it gave no real benefit for the reasons listed in the video if my memroy serves me correctly. Dialing it back to secure an overall is one thing, to use it to pursue a win in the race itself is something else entirely.
Best race recaps out there. But damn Pinkbike, the colorgrading of the shots of Ben were so fucked up: his lips are fluorescent pink and his hands glow-in-the-dark red. WTF 🤣🤣🤣
I don't want smart, calculated riding with pace notes mid-run. I want people feeling out their own pace and sending it. I think race radio killed road racing interest for me (plus all the doping), as now that's just a bunch of people staring at their power meters for hours and hours and getting fed time gaps. Boooriiing. Let's not make downhill racing a number crunching sport.
These videos are SOOOO much better than anything the UCI put out
Thank you for the fantastic videos
So it was a Commencal win in the junior women, junior men, elite women and elite men!! Well done Mr. Commencal!!
Thank you Ben (and Pinkbike).
Stoked for Reeco. And for Ronan finishing that high after a stack!
Awesome Ben thanks so much for your coverage
Please don’t stop!
thank you Ben and ghosty Ben. fantastic coverage and insights as always.
Another great break down video. Thanks again
Another superb analysis video. Keep it up Ben and pinkbike.
Amazing Story of race Ben.Keep going. Best wishes.
Loic demonstrated a champion mentality. Did what he needed for the championship, not for the glory. Smart riding
Good job Ben and Pinkbike!
go the Kiwi jrs !!

Nice summary Ben
Ben ✌🏼❤️
Your not saying you're gonna eliminate the ghosting analysis are you?
My favorite part of Pinkbike World Cup coverage
I hope he wasnt referring to himself not doing it anymore...

yeah i was wondering about this

@ 8:39 - that was the best bit 😂
So good

Hes a bad liar. Just the tells on his face give out he is fabricating the truth
yeah GARY!! opening scene..
Great vid as always, but... What about Max?
...thats why they´re PROs and we are NOT ^^ thank u ben 4 this recap!!
What's that thing that Coulanges and Bruni had mounted to their fork? Like a mudguard for the front brake rotors or something to keep all the mud out?
Looks like Bruni also had one on his rear rotor
In the live feed they said it's mainly to keep the water off and thus keep the temperature up for consistent brake power and lever feel.
Like the ones used on motorcycles back in the day. Keeps out the mud and possibly keeps the rotors warmer so you’d have a similar brake feel throughout the run? Just me speculating.

It's just bad luck. Give Loudenvielle another chance, 3rd time's a charm!

They do it all the time in XCO!
Wasn't remote anyway right? Any words in the book about direct verbal comms?
max commencal certainly didnt complain😂
Looked like serious flex in the wheel?

Iron your jumper mate 😂
French lipreading anyone? id love to know what Loics's guy said as he buzzed past
First Dialled and now Ghosty Ben! 👻☠️ Nooooooooooooooooo…… inhale……ooooooooooooooooo! 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌍

Hard to tell but the sun went down and dark clouds rolled over mid take. Ended up with really under exposed image for editor to try and save.
I'm peaky, but come on: Vali HOLE. Vali HÖÖÖLL. Train man please. Thanxxx
Junior Men winner? Ben, did Max Alran burn you saying you didn't have the fitness to do quali and semi for you to skip his efforts?
Shitty weather, shitty UCI!

Really curious to know who’s gonna win
It's over, Loic already sure to win.
