    I'm getting more and more contempt for individuals who just decide they're qualified to provide services to people strictly based on their experiences. Its dishonest, unethical, and you can cause real harm to people. I have two degrees in psychology and have worked in mental health for over 5 years and feel super competent in this area. Despite that I would NEVER lead someone to believe I can provide therapy because I don't have a clinical license and it would be unethical.

  • @zarasbazaar

    I'm a dancer and I encounter a lot of dancers like this: they think that everyone wants to watch them deal with their trauma via performance. It's frequently cringey. I've seen performance where the point is to express a trauma and that's powerful, but I'm talking about dancers who think they have to have this deep therapy session while they perform, no matter the venue. Tbh, the audience is there just to have a good time.

    • @Ms.Prairie
      @Ms.Prairie 10 місяців тому +3

      These types of trauma dumpers are at poetry open mics too. I feel pity for them because it just makes everyone in the room apart of a very difficult trauma processing without their explicit consent.
      That’s on TOP of targeting women with CPTSD which almost certainly has a s*xual ab*se component to it, as we know 1 in 2 / 1 in 3 women are survivors of some variety in that department (including myself and almost all women in my family).
      Rage -> Pity -> Rage again, for my Sabre-meter right now. She’s so self righteous.

    My brother in law bought a kangen water machine and fell totally victim to all of the harmful beliefs that are pushed. The man attempted to convince myself as well as others that drinking the water would replace the need to take medications for mental health, cure chronic illnesses, replace vaccinations, and could even replace traditional cancer treatment. When my partner and I lived with his brother we found his book filled with notes that he would take during training or business classes. He had pages full of advice on how to use peoples struggles, traumas or illnesses to sell water machines/the bottles of water that he would make to sell. I believe that he was already struggling with mental health issues of his own prior, but the rhetoric that is pushed in this MLM only worsened him. After we tried to talk to him about what he was doing and how wrong it was, things became very volatile. We moved and have had nothing to do with him for almost 2 years. It caused a massive rift between other family members and my brother in law as well. It is truly so disgusting that people are profiting by taking advantage of other people.

    I think she means reconnecting with her physical body to heal past trauma. I’d be curious what modalities she’s referring to. There’s definitely research into the connection between the brain and body in trauma, and people do often feel disconnected from their physical self (dissociation). Idk why she needed to phrase it in a way no one would understand though lmao. I’m a therapist and I still needed to google.

    • @ElegantMiyavizm

      Agree! *also a (trauma specific) therapist* a lot of the terms she used are clinical/ wouldn’t necessarily expect a lay person to use/toss out - I understood what she was saying - but it was interesting to hear it that way from a non-peer in a non-clinical setting.

    I did yoga teacher training, so I could learn how to bring mindfulness and movement safely to my clients in my occupational therapy job, and some of the people in the training were so similar to this lady. So many of them went through, like one trauma, or one course and then did this yoga teacher training and then wanted to market their lived experience in this way. I had to get away from the yoga teacher, space and only use my training with my clients because this Woooooo stuff was too much for me.

    Glad to know the “power dynamic” between my husband and I is utterly terrible according to these Boss Babes. Yeah, my husband makes a shit ton more than I ever will and I am financially dependent on him. I am also chronically ill and can only ever work very little hours or I risk going into a flare and putting myself back into the hospital. Has my husband ever made me feel guilt over this? Never. He’s the one that recently convinced me to cut my hours further so I could concentrate on my health because his greatest wish is “to grow old together” (what a monster, am I right ladies? 😂). It’s bad if you are financially dependent on an abuser who lords their earning capacity over you, but if you are in an equal healthy relationship it’s fine. Also, way to throw unpaid labor under the bus. Cooking, cleaning, finances, child care etc is valuable work and should be respected even when it doesn’t bring in a paycheque.
