I really love the look of this radio. I bought an pl 310et, because of you and i love it. This will be the next one. Thank you for your uploads! Greetings from Hungary!
Hi Guys, I have a question about the PL-990x, about the switch internal/external antenna, when you set the switch to external on SW for example (and you not plug anything), the signal have to be reduce to zero or you still can listen the signal but with lower quality?...in my radio, I can still listening the signal with I switch to external antenna. I thought that the switch isolate the antennas each other with that switch.
What is the comparison to the Tecsun H-501. They seem similar except that the H-501 is a stereo version. I see very little information about that unit. I can't find the English version of the operating manual yet, so it is not easy to be able to understand it's functions. Is the H-501 only an import version such as through a seller such as Banggood?
I'll stay with my tecsun PL880 till the 990X has been out for a couple years so that they've had time to figure out all the shortcomings and remedied them. I bought the PL880 to replace my retired radio shack (sangean) DX390 and I have been very impressed with it though much smaller and lighter than the 390 it has been consistently equal to or better than the 390 no doubt in part due to improvements in technology. In the DX390's defense it was a excellent radio in the early 90s and I'd buy another one if I could find one in very good to excellent condition.
Please do. a video of the sony 7600gr i have one and cant do much with it. when I bought it it had nothing but a case no paperwork no kind of directions at all nothing I didn't get anything thing at all.case no batteries in it I was happy as hell and then I took it home and all it is is a AM FM radio to me I need something simpler or learn how to do that one and I can't get no online help I'm stuck with it
There are UA-cam videos on this receiver, plus you may be able to find a manual on line. I like mine. The only thing I don't like about the radio is that there is a voltage on the external antenna jack, so you have to use the clip-on antenna that comes with the radio.
Hello, i got a question about this 990x. Is it same thing as 990? And how is he doing about syncronous detecion.I was watched some videos about Pl 680 that it has an AIR Band reception and so its been discovered that the 990x(or maybe a 990 as well) has a very bad syncronous detection. Other stuff is excellet but that 990x is way to expensive. :(
Add synchronous detection, a top-mounted carry handle (like the s-8800), then power the radio with standard alkaline batteries and the pl-990x would be perfect. Now, if there were also a possibility of operating the radio while it was being powered from an AC adapter, I'd have nothing else to wish for.
I turned in my Sangene 990x for this radio. It was fairly hard to find to tell the truth. IDK I have had Tecsun radios so long I just beat them and they still go so I just had to. I Boondock (Off Grid Camping) so USB Charging and the type battery are big deals for me over the Sangene.
Gilles has explained elsewhere that PL-990 is for internal Chinese market. PL-990X is for export and anon-co.com is the place that carries the export variety radios as I understand.
The newer generations DON'T use MP3, they stream the music they want (Rova, Spotify, etc). MP3 is now a heritage technology so why have it for playback only on a SW receiver? Pointless so Pl990X does not provide anything more useful Than my PL880.
What a BS. MP3 is still the most used music storage format on a card. It also plays FLAC not only mp3 and can be used as an bluetooth speaker if you want to use it with your phone for whatever hottest shit streaming tiktok app. That´s why I bought it and I hate streaming. What when there is no wifi or spotify is done? Who the hell wants a sw radio which depends on WIFI and updates for streaming services which will be obsolete soon when another company milks the teens? Then I don´t need an analog sw radio at all in the first place. The generation you are talking about who like to stream their Taylor Swift stuff won´t buy a sw receiver but I love to have my Miles Davis FLACs without depending on social media BS and I don´t even want that at all on my radio. We have smartphones with bluetooth headphones for this. It´s like complaining about a stratocaster has no VST plugin slot for techno drum computers because the kids like to rave.

Good explanation, Gilles - glad it worked out for you. (I understand a website has been selling the new H-501, shipping out of Canada, I believe)
Thanks so much for this review. Kentucky

Hey Tecsun, illuminate your keypad!
I would like to know which current radio current out that you prefer??

Is there a portable receiver that does have good sync detection?
Thanks for your reviews.
The pl 660 from Tecsun has the best synch detector.
@@jisa98And the PL-680?
Very informative, thanks.

You're going to talk me into buying this radio, aren't you. :-)
If I were to buy only one radio for the rest of my life should it be the 880 or the 990?
I have both, I like both, they are very close but I'd go with the 990 over the 880 if I had to choose.
Add synchronous detection, a top-mounted carry handle (like the s-8800), then power the radio with standard alkaline batteries and the pl-990x would be perfect. Why standard alkaline batteries? You can hear the radio also if it is charging li-ion batteries.

Any difference between this and the PL-990?
