      Yes, as soon as I'm through the Roon grind :D Should be about 300k XP, so 100 more to go. I want to earn my Hindi :)

      Terry, you are stronger than I am. Grinding through the Roon was the worst for me. I gladly forked over the 200k in free XP to get to the Hindy. Worth it!

    Great video! Would you consider talking about the matching algorithm in a future video? Specifically, how to handle unfavorable match ups in regards to ship types and maps. I’ve only got anecdotal evidence, but I’m under the impression that one can expect the algorithm to put you in a string of five unfavorable matches per 20 matches.
    For instance, if you’re grinding a Pan Asian DD you’ll invariably be put in a string of DD heavy matches. I’ve noticed IJN torpedo DDs get a rather brutal string of CV + cruiser heavy matches about every 15 to 20 matches. Again, my evidence anecdotal in regards to the algorithm keeping track of your last 20 matches. I do know this sort of thing is a common component of game design. I’d love to hear your views on this.
    Best regards and thanks for the great content!

      One aspect of MM I'll be looking at in the near future is playing bottom-tier tech tree vs upper tier premiums. There are some trickle-down impacts from the "edge" at tier 10 into T7.
      As for the class distribution matchmaking, the only fixed parameter is "one same-tier CV on each team, or no CV at all" in randoms (I've seen multi-CV battles in AI). I'd assume it would try and produce a balanced set (2 BB, 2 CL/CA, 2 DD) and one extra, which is either CV or one of the others, but of course it depends on the amount of available players. Generally, the tiers seem to be evenly matched, e.g. if I get into a T8 game in a T7 ship, we end up having roughly similar strengths in terms of tiers.
      Interestingly, divisions seem to be able to break that. E.g. if you get a fail-div, let's say a T6 and T7, and you get into a T8 game, you wouldn't see another T6 on the enemy team, which is fair - you messed up in the first place :) As for distribution _between_ battles, I'm not sure there's a factor other than the availability of players in the pool / queue.

      @@FunandGameswithTerry - The bottom tier versus upper tier premium sounds like a very interesting video. Any content on coping with bad situations would be welcomed by me, as it seems that’s what I’m doing most of the time. I’m mainly a DD player and in IX and X matches it doesn’t seem very wise to rush the caps until you see where the first wave of planes are going and where the rest of your team is going too.
      This seems to go against the conventional wisdom of cap control, but it doesn’t help ones team to rush the cap and run into a cruiser and a gunboat DD. That situation is so common that I never pick the preheating captain’s skill anymore. There are just too many CV players that will maul you with the first wave of planes if you take a DD into a cap too quickly.
      I struggle with finding the balance point between supporting the map objective and survival.

    • @wheels-n-tires1846
      @wheels-n-tires1846 4 роки тому +1

      Sometimes I wonder about the matching... It does seem generally like you often do get a series of battles that are pitched one way or the other. In a series of say, 10 battles, it will be noticeable that your team is either clearly superior or inferior in about 6+ of them. My frustration is seeing supposedly random teaming where one team will have, say 3 elite league players and one 8/9, and the other team has a couple 8/9 players and the rest are league 4/5.... Thats really an impossible battle to win!!!!😣😞

    • @chrisdraughn5941
      @chrisdraughn5941 4 роки тому

      @@wheels-n-tires1846 - I’m less bothered by the imbalance of league level, although I do acknowledge that it’s something that clearly happens. What bothers me is the unfavorable ship class matchups, and I might start a spreadsheet to see if I can recover any patterns. I first started thinking this while grinding the Pan Asian DD line and was getting strings of DD heavy matches. You can still go into gunfight mode in a pan Asian DD, but it’s super hard to do enough damage to win trophies when you have so few targets for your primary weapon, deep water torps.
      Again, only anecdotal evidence but it appears that the algorithm punishes you for using the same ship too many times in a row. I’m not 100 percent sure on this, but it’s one of my favorite things to rant and complain about.
      I’m grinding Yugumo currently and it’s a brutal brutal grind to face a team of gunboaty DDs, light cruisers plus a CV five to six battles in a row. Yugumo has deadly long range torps and weak guns, and at IX almost everyone can dodge torps. I usually leave the game feeling emasculated and violated.

      @@FunandGameswithTerry From poking around on the forums, I found this: forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/153293-wargaming-matchmaking-mechanics-and-how-they-affect-your-game/
      While that discussion is about the PC version of the game, I’m fairly confident that the Blitz version borrowed from the algorithm of the PC version. Based on keeping track of my games in regards to ship class, I’d say there are more than just three variables at work in determining the composition of the teams.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry

      I know, even at upper tiers, it's a common occurrence. Seeing a Monty controlling a single fire while being shot at by a Worcester is just painful :)
      Of course, on the flipside, whenever I play HE spammers or (much more rarely) CV, I certainly appreciate the efforts of the enemy team to increase my passive damage numbers.

      I know, right? I've got tons of the premium ones. Never bought them, they just showed up over time. I'm thinking of switching my T10s to those and use them up. I didn't go into detail on the differences, because they're just having better stats, and I wouldn't spend gold on consumables.

      I wouldn't use it for secondaries, even in a German BB. It's far too valuable, I occasionally use it for mains, but only if I'm not actively being shot at by HE, otherwise it's multiple fires or floods, exclusively.

      I haven't looked into it in more detail, will have to try. You can see the counter on the damage control icon, it counts down the immunity (while it's active) and then switches to counting down the cooldown. I'll keep an eye and see if I get set on fire / flooded while it's active.
