seven husbands of evelyn hugo is one of the books I really want to read this year! I had to read in cold blood for my AP Lang class, and it was the only assigned book that I liked lol
i recently found your channel and i fell in love with your content, i love listening to people talking about the things they love and listening to you talk about books it's wonderful. i've already made a list of the books i want to read this year and i found out about some of them thanks to you :D
I heard about your channel from the Bookmarked trio and honestly I’m so glad-you’re such a lovely speaker and hearing you talk about books that mean a lot to you makes me so fuzzy
I read In Cold Blood in high school. It was so chilling and eye opening. I appreciated how it portrayed both sides. Definitely an important read! Also, I was so excited to see the notification for this video pop up today. I’m always looking for new UA-cam videos on Sundays as I’m relaxing but most people don’t seem to post videos on Sundays. I loved seeing yours today! 🙂
Yesss another In Cold Blood fan! It was such an interesting, atmospheric nonfiction novel. Also, I usually upload on Thursdays, but I was wondering if people preferred Sundays too!
i love what you said about call me by your name! i talked about it in my best of 2018 video too, it's such a beautiful novel. a couple of other books that changed me the way you said cmbyn changed you is 'the alchemist' by paulo coelho and 'the master and margarita' by mikhail bulgakov. both have such lyrical prose and changed my perspective on life, i would definitely recommend them xx
So many great books! You really caught my attention with Bella Figura. I mean, being Italian I don’t think I’ll need the recipes but I love to see my culture through other cultures’ perspectives ☺️ So I must check it out! Also I’ll buddyread Strange the dreamer with a friend next month and I can’t wait, because we’ll be doing a book swapping thing to have each othe’s annotations and it’s gonna be so much fun!!!
Bella Figura was such a treat! I definitely recommend picking it up in the summer because it's so atmospheric and just makes you want to relax in a cafe. That buddy read sounds awesome! I did that with a friend before and it's so fun!
Because of your love of “In Cold Blood” and the criminal justice system and the death penalty, I recommend “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption”. It’s an autobiography/memoir about a death row lawyer and his work and I just reread and loved it again. His writing is compulsively digestable and gives you a really good glimpse into the modern workings of the death penalty in the criminal justice system. (Also has a 4.62 on goodreads). Also, bc of this video i need to read “bella figura” ASAP P.S. the jacket is fab af
Evelyn Hugo is definitely one of my favorites in 2018! I need to pick up Strange the Dreamer and The Poet X! I wasn't a huge fan of Daughter of Smoke and Bone so I've been hesitant to pick up Strange the Dreamer so it definitely makes me happy to hear that you weren't a fan of it as well but still loved Strange the Dreamer!
Strange the Dreamer is, in my opinion, easier to grasp because DoSaB was so complex and dense, and I highly recommend listening to it on audiobook! It’s v. fun!
this is the first video of yours that i'm watching and i'm amazed by the variety of books you pick up and the way you talk about them. i love when people talk about something they're passionate about and, really, it's such a pleasure to watch your vids haha! keep up the good work, love from poland xx
This is such a kind message! It means the world to me, and i’m so glad you found my channel ♥️ i hope you have a lovely day full of all the thing that make you happy
hi i randomly clicked on your video so this is the first video of yours that i ever watched but let me just say you look like an absolute ANGEL. your voice is so soothing and the part where you talk about that the narrator had such a beautiful voice that you felt cozy is the same way how i feel about your voice! i definitely am going to watch more videos of you in the future
its really interesting you attribute evelyn hugo with cuban rep. although of course she is cuban I feel like an important part of the story was the fact that evelyn changed everything she was (including her heritage) in order to become famous. it wasn't until her later age that she realizes she isn't and hasn't been a cuban icon since she abandoned her identity as a cuban woman. but that's just how I analyzed it ! loved your video as always !!
I didn't see it as she abandoned her identity but more as she had to hide it from the public because being a Latina was too different from their whitecentric ideals in Hollywood. She may have dyed her hair and hidden the fact that she was Cuban, but that doesn't erase the fact that she *is* Cuban. I attribute her as a Cuban character because I've had to deal with the same thing in school. I tried to hide the fact that I was Cuban and even lied, saying I was part Italian, because people made fun of me for coming from two Cuban parents, so I was in the same boat as her with trying to hide my ethnicity because it doesn't fit people's twisted expectations. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I learned to love and embrace my heritage and not care about people's comments about my ethnicity. I think she's just as important piece of Cuban rep. because this erasure happens all the time in life/media.
Stories For Coffee oh yeah I completely agree with all of your points !! She knew that white washing was a crime of Hollywood and she had to appear *white* in order to be famous. I was just pointing at that fact that the fact that she succumbed to that erasure for fame and glory attributes to her flawed nature as a character which makes the book so compelling. And her admitting that erasure adds to her character development as a Cuban character.
I finally found another Latinx Booktuber!!! I’m so happy I found you and I can’t wait to watch all of your videos!!!
I am also really into classic film! :)
I'm so excited to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Strange The Dreamer when I get to them!

Thank you so much! I’m so glad it boosted your mood 💗💝
The movie Capote was really good. It feels so stifling like you’re running out of breath when you’re watching. I think you’ll like it a lot.
You made me so much more excited to see it!
I'm definitely going to get a copy of Next Year in Havana because I hope to get it signed in March.
